Yamasaki sat on the rock and gazed at the stones in his hand, his heart filled with complicated emotions and thoughts. The biggest one being hope.

He took a few deep breaths and glanced at Claire who was silently waiting for him.

He stood up and saluted her in the traditional style of cultivators and martial artists–by cupping his fists and bowing a little.

He said, "I don't really understand what happened but in the end, you took my side. So, thank you."

She shook her head and said in a blunt tone, "I only did it for my path."

He was about to say something but he suddenly became dizzy and almost fell if not for prompt support of Claire.

She helped him to sit back on the rock and said, her voice still cold but with a tinge of softness to it, "I'll carry you back so don't worry and rest."

He wanted to decline but his eyes felt extremely heavy and soon he fell asleep just like that.

Merely the image of beautiful long eyebrows atop the green iris retained in his memory.

He wasn't in a deep sleep as such he could acutely feel someone carrying him. His body felt relaxed after a long time so he didn't open his eyes. Only a fragrant jasmine-like smell lingered, calming him down even further.

In the distance, Alan and Markus looked at the pair. Markus took out a piece of yellow paper and handed it to Alan. He had lost the bet so he had to pay. This paper, though magical, was not that valuable in his peerage.

Though he lost, he laughed in a rough and eerie voice, "They look so good together."

Alan didn't bother with this black fog nonsense and got straight to the point, "This time you have disappointed me."

Markus became silent and asked cautiously, "Haven't we already punished those idiots?"

Alan sneered, "why are you showing your money grubbing personality again? I am giving you a chance to save lives with money so cherish it."

Markus thought for a while and then asked tentatively, "Mirage Prism or Fire of Osborn?"

Seeing Alan's narrowed eyes, he sighed, "Fire of Osborn for young lady Amelia then. It will be delivered in a few days."

Like usual, Alan only cared about his wife and daughter. Markus kind of agreed with him. Lady Melissa aside, who was not even a cultivator, Amelia had a bright future ahead of her. As for Eric, he was alright in the past but now he has become pathetic.

He didn't feel that reluctant while giving away one of the most valuable treasures of the Dark Sparrow sect.

Those fools were not able to perform their simple tasks perfectly so reason was on Alan's side. But in the assassins' eyes what mattered more was strength.

His peerage had a rich history of several eras. In the 225th epoch, when Dark Sparrow was at its peak of fame and strength, this man appeared out of nowhere and single-handedly turned the peerage upside down.

The leader at that time was the publicly acknowledged strongest ascender in the whole universe. An existence who had actually killed two gods. Someone who could battle cultivators with higher levels than them were rare but to kill a god who was two levels higher was never heard before. That existence died at this man's hand.

He disappeared after that and became a mystery and spicy story for everyone. Many came to the conclusion that he died after suffering heavy injury.

After that more incidents and geniuses emerged. The youngest ascender ever, Emily Kroft. The insidious William Fletcher. The scandal of the strongest higher god and many more.

But all of them were overshadowed by a single person. With a black sword in his hand and a white mask on his face, he swept through the whole universe.

He was undefeated in the same cultivation level. With just his cultivation base of peak ascension, he destroyed three demigods with a few slashes of his sword. He chased after a god for thousands of miles and then was stopped by a higher god from killing the pitiful god.

When everyone thought that the excitement was over, he actually started fighting with that higher god! It was known that there were very few higher gods in Isfet and each one of them was a force to reckon with.

And that person fought with the higher god until the sky collapsed. Though he was severely injured and almost died, he became infamous.

He didn't stop at that. At the end of that era, he became the youngest ever transcendent in the history of Isfet. A venerable who was revered by many as the sword saint.

The whole universe changed because of this. The biggest change being the division of four realms into five.

Markus couldn't help but sigh when he recalled that dazzling era. He was insignificant at that time and was still the same, a shadow living in the darkness.

He glanced at Alan, his gaze filled with respect to the point of reverence.

Only a few people knew that this man actually accomplished a similar feat as the sword saint!

When he killed the peak ascender, he had just broken through the wall of drifter and become an ascender.

Markus also thought that this man died and was filled with regret. But twenty years ago, at the end of the 249th era, he returned.

Alan, the man filled with a fog of mystery, snorted, "your gaze disgusts me."

Markus laughed dryly and then said, "Lord, if you allow me to ask you something, I don't understand how this can be used to start the war."

Alan waved his hand and said, "You focus on what you are good at, let crown prince handle this."

Markus nodded and was about to leave when Alan suddenly said, "Tell that crown prince that Alan Bodwyn is an important chess piece you have created so it's better to be careful."

Markus looked like a black chick pecking rice and soon disappeared.

Alan turned to look at his son's back with unknown thoughts.
