"Her injury is not critical." Alan's calm voice announced his arrival in the hall.
Hearing his voice that almost seemed indifferent, Yamasaki boiled and his mother even more so.
She shrieked, "Do you really not care about your daughter?!"
The servants had never seen their mistress speak with such a loud voice before but they could understand her feelings. She was a good woman who cared about everyone. Even as a noble birth, she didn't have any air of arrogance.
Not only that but the young girl Amelia was also someone everyone liked. As such they also felt angry and indignant.
They were a bit surprised with the family head's calmness. The few discerning one could see that Alan Bodwyn was really angry but he didn't show it. He was so furious that there was a suffocating invisible pressure surrounding him.
If an expert were here they would say that it was murderous aura. Alan had hidden it pretty well but it was a killing intent so deep that could even make their scalp tingle.
He waved his hand, signaling the attendants to exit the hall. Then he sat beside his wife, held her in his arms and softly consoled her. Yamasaki had never seen this man so gentle before. He was surprised but more relieved.
After some time his mother finally calmed down. Alan came closer to kiss on her forehead but she frowned and shook her head. He smiled at her and took a glance at his son who had a strange expression on his face. His smile became warmer as he said with a hidden cold glint in his eyes.
"I'll now rush to the Silverloch village."
His wife said without hesitation. "I will also come with you."
"But your body is still wea-"
"I will go." Her voice was firm.
Alan sighed and gave in to her.
The next day, in the Silverloch village, Yamasaki looked at the horizon. The golden rays of the rising sun gave bright colors to the clouds, mountains, and the small village but he had a deep frown on his face.
During the way, he was even more on tenterhooks than his mother. The very thought of losing someone who was close to him made him almost lose consciousness. After all, Amelia was his sister. Even if he still couldn't completely come to terms with his new life, he couldn't deny his fifteen years of memories with her.
Fortunately as Alan had said, her injuries were not severe. She just had a small wound on her forehead. As for Tessa who was accompanying her, she was uninjured. The two girls were exhausted and were currently fast asleep.
Things were too strange. A seemingly safe journey almost turned into a disaster. Many bandits appeared out of thin air and attacked the group. And to save Amy and Tessa, many guards lost their lives including the old man Yasuo had met on the street. An acquaintance was gone just like that. If not for the timely support of the local rangers, things would have become worse.
The strange thing was the number of bandits. The empire of Ebilon had strict and firm rule over their regions. It was not just because of their military power but also their administrative department. So the existence of such a large group of bandits shouldn't go unnoticed by the empire. Unless the person responsible for the area gambled with his life and secretly nurtured these lawless people. And that person was none other than his father, Alan Bodwyn.
Yamasaki side glanced at him and suppressed the suspicion and questions in his heart. After all he had no evidence and all of this came from his biases towards his father. He also didn't know many things about this world as, physically, he was just eighteen years old and had no right or power to know certain things.
Alan said with an indifferent expression. "Soon I'll visit these bandits' hideout."
Alan was giving him a choice. He closed his eyes and muttered, "I will also go with you."
"Do you even understand what I will do there?"
"Yes I do."
He had to somehow vent his accumulated emotions. An opportunity was finally here.
It was just that he didn't expect things to get so brutal and vicious.
On a nearby hill, there were many crudely made buildings. In the biggest building, the smell of blood permeated the hall.
Yamasaki was feeling dizzy and still had the taste of nausea in his mouth. He had expected Alan to first try to get some information out of the bandits and then get rid of them or arrest them.
But when they came to the headquarters, figures in black appeared out of nowhere and started a massacre. It was one sided killing. And worse all of the bandits were killed brutally and some were even tortured to death. He didn't dare to look at the disfigured corpses.
He trembled in fear as he looked at Alan. This man's few words started all this.
He had his arms crossed over his chest and had an indifferent expression on his face. Soon a huge man in black dragged the last bandit to the father and son and said in respectful tone, "Sir, here is the leader."
He threw the tattered bandit leader in the ground. He had his tongue cut and his face was filled with blood and tears of pain.
He grabbed the man's hair and started dragging him while telling Yamasaki to come out.
Outside, he passed a knife that had appeared out of thin air to Yamasaki and said indifferently, "Kill him."
Yasuo's face paled even more. His hands trembled so much that he couldn't even hold the knife properly.
"This is how you will protect your mother and sister?"
A memory resurfaced in his mind.
Many years ago, the man gave a knife to his son who was not even ten years old back then and said, "kill it."
At that time, the young boy's face was filled with tears as he gazed into the rabbit's fear filled eyes.

He asked the same question.
"This is how you will protect your mother and sister?"
After some time, the youth closed his eyes and slashed down.
But Yamasaki couldn't. He dropped the knife and shook his head. He said in a trembling voice. "I can't."
He felt repulsive towards blood and these people who could kill without batting an eye. He was repulsed by something inside of him.
Alan sneered but didn't force him. He stepped in the leader's head and crushed it. Blood and brain matter splattered on the ground.
He then turned around and started walking up the hill after telling Yamasaki to follow him.
Half through the rugged path, Alan sat on a rock and silently looked at him.
Yamasaki couldn't look into his cold eyes.
He heard him say, "Claire. Markus."
Two figures appeared beside his father. One was the familiar observer. While the other was a dark fog shaped like a human.
Alan asked, "Claire, so what have you decided?"
Sweat dropped down Yasuo's face. He felt a chill inside his heart which spread throughout his body. The cold was insurmountable even with the thick coat. But the people present seemed not to care about his condition.
Claire said in a low voice, "His heart lake is unstable since the first day. Self reproach. Deception. Guilt. Depression. He almost has all the negative emotions that are bane to a cultivator's future. But…."
"Oh? But?"
Claire appeared beside Yamasaki and an energy flowed through his body, temporarily giving him warmth and protection.
She said slowly yet clearly, "I accept him."
Silence enveloped the surrounding. Yasuo couldn't understand what was happening but he was clear that Claire actually went against this man.
Though he didn't know anything about her, he still didn't want anyone else to be harmed because of him. But he kept his mouth shut. What could he even do? He was completely powerless.
Alan stood up and asked, "and what's the reason?"
"I have no obligation to tell you."
He chucked and took a step forward. "It's true that you will be able to beat me in the future but what if I crush you right now?"
A deadly pressure descended on her.
Claire didn't bother to say anything else and took out a sword.
Yasuo couldn't take it anymore but before he could say anything, Markus who was silent as a dead man said in a guttural voice, "weak people are not allowed to speak."
He could only shut up and clench his fists.
Alan suddenly raised his head back and laughed out loud.
He said in a good mood. "As expected of Claire, you have passed. And Eric, you have also passed."
Yamasaki was even more confused. Passed? What?
Alan didn't bother to say anything else and gave him two pieces of unremarkable looking red stones.
Yasuo stared blankly at them.
Claire might have thought that he wanted information about these stones as she started to say, "These are rare renaissance stones. They will help you identify the reincarnated person who has a karmic connection…. I mean a deep past life connection with you."
Yasuo shook his head and said, "No, I didn't want–"
He froze and his eyes widened.
Identify a reincarnated person who had deep connection with him?
His heart palpated as he recalled what Dior had told him about Fujiwara Hikaru.
But then who would the second stone identify?
At that time, he didn't know that these stones had destined his life to become more… interesting.
