'So... Why did you not tell me about the recall crystal?'

'They are 100 gold for a single-use item. Most tamers cannot buy one of these crystals so readily. Also, performing emergency exits forfeits all the experience you have earned in the dungeon. It is so unwanted that it is assumed that most tamers would not want it even if they have access to the funds required.'

Simon audibly gulped, Itsy, the only monster girl still outside was cutting fruit and hand-feeding him, looked at him weirdly before shrugging and going back to feeding him. He was kept overnight for psyche evaluation among other things to give him a completely clean bill of health before letting him go. As he had expected, he was fine at least physically.

Mentally... he was still a bit bummed out with his results. His first boss fight was over before it even began. His dad had specifically trained him to be wary of getting caught up in the awe of a boss monster, they had a passive ability to exploit that part of the human consciousness, yet he did it anyway.

It was also a humbling experience, in retrospect, he was most likely a bit rash when he dove head first in such a challenging environment with at best secondhand knowledge. He decided to slow down for a week or ten and simply enjoy his time, he had a drake he needed to complete the bond of and if he was being honest, he needed to test out those 'upgrades' to his 'essence'. He also needed to get a bit of reading done, he might not look like it but his favorite pass time was reading and a lot of unknown things became very relevant.

A cold wet slice of an apple touched his lips and he opened his mouth to accept the fruit. Whatever they were serving in this healing ward was absurdly tasty as even the apple tasted more like sugar candy. Thinking of the ward reminded him that the telepath was still waiting on him.

Simon nearly spit the water Itsy was gently feeding him.

"What?!" cough! cough! "How?!" Simon said out loud choking on the water. Itsy almost jumped and immediately shifted her frame to the exit looking for threats.

'You have looted 2 chests worth a total of 100 gold in raw currency minus the rare drops as they are outside the contract. The drops you collected amount to 85 silver and 76 copper outside the 4 rare drops you collected from the monster girls.'

Simon calmed down from his outburst and following him Itsy also became more docile and promptly went back to spoiling him.

'Oh. Yeah. I can see where the steep price comes from.'

'It must be alarming to earn as much as a tamer who passed his third trial while only being a first trial passer.'

For the first time, he felt an inflection of emotion in the disembodied voice but as soon as it came it disappeared as she continued.

'Be warned. Whilst you have any outstanding debt to the tamer's guild you may not use our in-house shops, use our specialized facilities, or delve into our private dungeons. It is advised to clear any outstanding debt at your earliest convenience.'

Is this what feeling responsible for himself felt like? He did not like it one bit...
