Lords are a breed of unique abilities designed to help monster girls or other people.
You see, most of the abilities a tamer gains from a monster will always be a small fraction of what the monster can do at her maximum potential, it is so meager that most tamers opt to not bother in the first place allowing the monster girls to do the heavy lifting only intervening if the situation becomes truly dire.
There are certain exceptions to this. Such as the might of the bond a monster girl gains through connecting, but it requires no action on the tamer's part. Certain legendary abilities change the playing field entirely but they are the exception, not the rule.
This is where the lord abilities come into play. Unlike most other abilities that are additive, applying the base power of the wielder on the target which in most cases does not amount to much, lord abilities are multiplicative, they strengthen based on the target in question.
This might seem like much but when you consider the normal uselessness of tamers in actual combat it can add up to a lot. For that reason alone some people choose to specialize in certain monster variants in hopes of gaining a trait of that class even if it severely limits the overall variety of their team. Even then most people have very little success, as you see, the chance of getting such a trait is abysmal. It only happens when you create a level 3 bond and even then the chances are as low as 5%, even lower if the monster girl has multiple species.
The reason for the specialization is that for every monster you have of that particular species, you gain a permanent 5% increase in the chances the next time you bind a monster girl of that species.
Before the 'Great Collapse' it used to be a much more practiced thing but much of the culture surrounding taming, in general, was lost during the 'Darkest Day' and it's the abhorrent human body count. That and the general lack of results from the revered lord classes during that period has led to slowly fading from the public eye. It is not entirely gone as certain 'noble' houses still are ardent about the power of the lords and the Celestial Order borderline worships them but to the average joe, it might as well be useless extra work for pitiful rewards. Even when one pops up every now and then, the general popularity and usefulness of 'versatile teams' across the average populace keep them as a very rare niche.
Even though it is so rare in modern society, some few libraries still have information on them, especially in lord variants. As you see, not all lords a created equal. The flavor of the lord decides what type of empowerment they are getting and if they are already of that species the power of the enhancement doubles and some unique enhancements target the specific species, this has led to a sort of tiering in the lord system as one could only become one lord variant throughout their entire existence. For example, the beast lord, although rather powerful is argued to have some of the weakest forms of empowerment across the entire list, that being mostly physical. Even the insect lord, with their vast array of poisons and tricks, is far more desirable.
However, at the pinnacle of them all are three, lord of heaven(celestial lord), prince of hell(infernal lord), and jester of the court(fey lord).
*There are also the legendary lords but many argue that even a powerhouse such as the theorized dragon lord is a step below the pinnacle three purely in terms of versatility as if you have a full team of dragons, empowering may not be necessary.*
Why are they so good? Because one has the power of a different realm behind them. That is not a metaphor, they legitimately create small pocket worlds comprised of their own souls in the image of their lord class. As such they have the widest and some of the strongest selection of empowering abilities available anywhere.
The strongest of any ability a lord can produce is called the field effect, it is a massive mobile area centered around the lord and, as one can guess, this is a species-specific enhancement that is as malleable as it is powerful.
To say it is extremely powerful would be wrong, however, a very easy and valid argument to make is to just add a powerful monster girl that is focused on empowerment and can achieve the same or even better effect. Another extremely powerful argument was that tamers were generally fragile and to risk them engaging in combat was the peak of foolishness. The term 'versatile' is used once more and the scholars believe it is because the 'Great Collapse' proved that the lord classes were more of a status symbol than actually 'powerful' that they have been reduced to mostly noble classes and rare one-offs these days.
But a status symbol they were, to monster girls, if they were of similar species, they were a very sweet temptation and great prize. If the bond made a monster girl feel complete then the influence of a lord class of their variant made them feel very very happy in near perpetuity. Even the tamer was particularly evil and abusive to the monster girl, she would give the other cheek and ask for more as any touch becomes ambrosia especially if their bond becomes complete. Though unlike the bond the feeling is not instant but more of a gradual build-up till even leaving their presence becomes an annoying nuisance.
It is because of this that certain organizations, especially the 'specialist' organizations still put some stock on lords. They have more pull in the type of monster girls the organization is known for and that is very valuable to them.
This is the lord class, a once popular relic of the past that today only exists to fulfill a niche.
