Chapter 2: Chapter 1: The Beginning

The scream echoes down the halls, and Mr. Quincey holds his finger to his mouth, signaling the class to stay quiet. Ian can easily tell a few of his classmates are holding back tears, Yui looks like she might explode into panic now, all sense of the calm she had not even 30 seconds ago has left. Jack turns to Ian and whispers "You're smart, what should we do?". Ian quickly responds in a hushed tone, but not quite a whisper "I like science not fiction! But if it is zombies then all the things I could say are stereotypical. We would need facts to know for sure what to do."

A slight look of panic hits Jack's face, realizing Ian is toying with the idea that it could be zombies means it could be true. Yui says loud enough for the whole class to hear "We should cover all the windows, so whatever it is can't see us.". The whole class except for Izzy simultaneously springs into action, using jackets, posters, and pieces of paper to cover the windows, using duct tape to fasten them to the glass. Mr. Quincey, mortified at how quick all his math posters had been torn to bits, says "The best thing we can do for now is to stay here, for as long as we can." as he puts a chair underneath the doorknob.

Fast paced footsteps can be heard outside, followed by some banging on the door. "Let me in! These things are going to kill me!" Izzy's face changes in an instant, its her friend Lilly. But Mr. Quincey writes on the board not to say anything, the safety of those in this room is their only concern right now. "Oh god!" Lilly exclaims, as her shadow can be seen running through the paper on the window to the main hall. Another shadow joins hers, at a quick pace, though it seems to be hobbling. Behind that shadow two others join in, one at full sprint catches up to Lilly, launching itself into the air and on top of her. All the shadows go below the window as screams can be heard from the other side, a small red tint appears behind one of the papers, slowly getting bigger until after the screaming stops.

Everybody knows what just happened, and what the red tint meant. Nobody said a word for roughly an hour, almost the whole class of twenty four students was in tears, the rest we're too horrified to shed any. All three of the shadows stood up after a couple footsteps can be heard at the end of the hall, a quiet "Fuck!" can be heard as the shadows make there way towards the sounds. A fourth shadow appears from below the window, Ian, Yui, and Jack all look at each other horrified, knowing exactly what this meant. A door can be heard breaking off its hinges down the hall, followed by stumbling and screaming.

A large black shadow is cast on the window, everybody too scared to even breath as it passes. "It could only be described as a horde" Ian thought. After what seemed like forever, an end to the shadow appears, and a loud breath in could be heard from the back of the class, followed by a sneeze that made every students stomach turn as the shadow seems to stop moving. Banging can be heard along all the windows and doors, as the outline of the assumingly dead students and teachers get far too detailed for their comfort.

Mr. Quincey runs to the door and tries to hold it shut, as the students move their desks to the windows, hoping to prevent them from coming inside. Jack takes the duct tape and wraps his trigonometry book around his arm, then takes his football gear out of his backpack and puts it on. The glass shatters, and the door is audibly breaking, everyone is screaming in panic, trying everything to prevent what seems inevitable. Ian looks at Jack and yells "What are you doing!?". Jack tells him "Hold on I'm thinking" as he visibly sizes up one of the few windows to the outside in the classroom. 

Jack hands Ian his pocket knife and motions him to throw it at the window. The door breaks down and the living corpses flood the room, Ian panics and throws the knife at the window, Jack running full force towards it. The knife barely does anything to the glass, but barely was just enough. Jack holds up his arm using the trigonometry book as a shield, bashing through the glass. Ian grabs Yui's hand an quickly follows, knowing the fall will do much less than the corpses.

Jack hits the ground hard but seems fine, Ian and Yui jump, and manage to land on a car not too far ahead from where Jack had landed. The screams from the classroom can be heard from the end of the parking lot, causing all the creatures nearby to look directly at Jack, Ian and Yui. Izzy snaps out of her shock and finally starts moving, she manages to get out the window, and Jack catches her, breaking his right arm which now hurts like hell. "We Have to move!" Yells Ian, scrambling to get Yui up and off the car, as the corpses shuffle towards them. Jack and Izzy follow them, moving just in time to not get crushed by the fountain of corpses now erupting from the freshly broken window.

A larger beast appears at the end of the parking lot, standing on two legs but moving on all fours, notices the four survivors. A large, guttural bellowing comes from it, it slowly starts to move towards them, picking up the pace as it goes. Ian yell "Run!" as the beast chases them, mowing down the corpses as if they weren't there. Izzy quietly and repetitively says "Fuck" as if she would die when she stopped. Then Jack hears a familiar sound and calls out to Ian "You hear that?". "An engine!" He quickly replies. "The best one in town!" Jack exclaims delightfully.

A large wall of lights can be seen in the distance, slowly getting closer as the engine grows louder. Ian tells the others "Run towards the lights! Only get out of the way when you see the driver!" as the beast rapidly catches up. The vehicle becomes clearer, and they all run towards it, Jack signaling to floor it. Izzy, being in the back of the four teens was about to get eaten by the beast, which extended its maw to her, seconds away from getting its dinner. Everyone jumps out of the way except Izzy, who instead jumps up, rolling up the windshield and landing in the bed of the truck.

The beast, with its neck fully extended, faceplanted into a set of bull horns on the front of the truck. A hand extends from the passenger seat and reaches out to Ian "Get into the damn truck Eclyptus! Everyone else get in the back!" Jack hops into the back and helps Yui climb in, both being careful not to step on the unconscious Izzy. Ian hops in the front and realizes its Luke, Jacks best friend. Ian has written Luke down in his information book as the king of the school, nearly everyone wants to be his friend, though he only talks to Jack, and one hell of a baseball player, even getting the most likely to be famous page in the yearbook three years in a row because of it.

"Is everyone alright?" Luke asks, only to be followed by a simultaneous "No" from everyone else. "Izzy is out cold, but breathing." claims Yui, voice breaking and tears still rolling down her cheeks . "What the hell happened Eclyptus!" yells Luke as he slams the car in reverse to get the beast off of his hood. "I don't know! The best words for what is happening right now are zombie apocalypse and we all know that's a stretch!" shouts Ian. Luke gets the beast off, shifting the car back to drive floors it as hard as he can and gets away from the school. "Bullshit, tell the me truth!" says Luke, only for Jack to confirm that he is not lying.

Ian notices a bruise on Luke's face, as well as a black eye. "Jesus, what happened to you?" Ian asks. "None of your business. He responds. Luke drives to Jacks house in hopes of finding his parent, as well as the others. The areas outside their houses have a lot of corpses, both moving and still on the ground. There is an obvious military presence here at one point, with undead soldiers and citizens alike all along the street. They couldn't search through the hordes of corpses to find their parents, Ian told the rest of them "The military was here, odds are that they have a safe camp somewhere, we just have to find it and with that we should find our parents."

Jack notices Luke doesn't drive by his house, and asks "Hey, you aren't worried about you're mom?". "Just shut up and let me drive! I know a place we could stop at for a bit." shouts Luke, obviously in pain and upset about something, but trying his best not to show it. Everyone seemed to calm down the farther they got from the school. Izzy woke up the same way she started the nap, screaming and legs kicking, one of said kicks nailing Jack in-between his legs. "God-damnit Izzy! Everything you do you manage to cause me pain!" Jack shouts. Making everyone in the truck laugh a little bit, before re-realizing their current situation.

Yui looks at Jacks right arm, which is definitely broken. "Don't take the book off, since you put it on before it broke, its acting as a cast trying to re-assume that position, its the best chance of it healing right until we find a real cast." Yui tells him. "You mean if we find a cast." Jack says, holding back the immense amount of pain through a little smile. "We're here." says Luke after a few hours of driving, now at least 15 minutes from the nearest building aside from the one they were at.
