Day 230,
Another day, another island rest stop. We’re not stopping long though. Just enough to stretch our legs and such. Judging by the moon last night we’re cutting it close with the next mist night and we want to try to push onto Iole’s island today if possible. Honestly, I was half expecting the mists to be out this morning.
Well, it’s late and the sun was already setting by the time we made landfall, but we made it. Met Iole. She’s as taciturn and prone to taking unexpected guests in stride as Maiko described. But she did remember Maiko, so I guess that’s a good sign of her mental faculties. As is the fact that she’s less unkempt than I would have expected someone living out in the wilderness on their own for the past forty years.
We made our introductions and explained some of why we were here. She seemed to have no objections to us examining her book so long as we’re careful with it. She didn’t think much of our chances of being able to translate anything from it and warned us not to drive ourselves mad trying to figure out the unanswerable.
Too tired to write much else right now. I expect Cass and I will start on the transcription tomorrow.
