After what felt like twenty minutes I was called up. My opponent was Kaizu Kirigashi. Both of us walked forward. I felt overwhelming energy radiating off him. It felt like needles prickling all over my front half. This fight would be interesting. Once I came back to reality all I saw was Kaizu standing right in front of me.
He punched me in the center of my chest. No recoil, just excruciating pain. It felt like a cement brick hit me in my chest hard. I grabbed my chest trying to catch my breath. I knew what his trick was.
"You infused your fist with Aura to increase the damage," I explained.
"Smart."
A similar technique to what Kensho did. Just a bit different. I lunged forward and did what he did back to him. He smiled
"Now, this is where the fun begins."
I guess we had the same idea. Because we both began to cover our hands with Lightning Aura. It was shocking. I guess we were thinking the same.
Lightning Resonance: Electric Fist!" we both yelled as we charged toward each other.
Our fists had met. Both of us were pushing. We didn't move. No matter how hard I pushed. Suddenly, I jumped back.
"Sorry but I'm ending this quickly," he said.
He lunged toward me and punched me in my chest again. But he didn't stop there. He kept going.
"Hitoria Burst Stream!!!" he yelled.
He released a barrage of hard punches that I felt all over my chest. The pain hurt badly. So much so that my chest was feeling numb from the impacts. After he'd finished I just stood still. Until I eventually collapsed. I grasped my numb chest as I lie on the dirt. Kaizu walked to me and lifted his hand.
I grabbed his hand and helped myself up. It was time for the next match.
3rd Person POV
The professor looked around at the class. He felt like there was nothing else to be shown. But he gave it a shot.
"Whoever would like to go next walk forward," he told them.
Two stepped up. One was named Akiro Hijame. He had green hair and eyes. His hair was slightly messy, but he didn't seem to mind it. The other student was, Shin Kazumi. He had white hair and teal-ish eyes. The two looked ready for a fight.
"Begin!" Prof. Tanoji shouted.
Both charged at each other without hesitation. Akiro's fist hit Shin's jaw. Shin recoiled a little but that didn't stop him completely. He crouched and spun attempting to sweep Akiro's leg. It didn't work. Akiro flipped Shin backward by his leg. He may have landed it but he was off-balance for a few seconds which Akiro used to charge.
"Wind Resonance: Pulse Barrier!" Shin shouted.
A pulse of energy hit Akiro stopping him from getting near him. He tried again. Denied. He kept pushing until he got through, not for long though. Half a second later he was stopped. Akiro knew he had to wait for about a second when the barrier was weak and before a new one pulsed out.
Shin was safe from attacks. Well, physical ones at least. Akiro only thought about the physical side not. But he wanted to test something.
"Earth Resonance: Geo Spikes!" Akiro yelled.
Instead of using the dirt, the arena had. Akiro conjured his own into the shape of spikes. Maybe just maybe the spikes could get through. He shot them at Shin. Shin knew his barrier couldn't block the spikes. All he could do was dodge them.
Akiro had found his weak point.
"Heh, looks like you aren't invincible," Akiro spoke.
Akiro had the upper hand now. All he had to do was use his Aura to attack instead of punches and kicks.
"Wind Resonance: Spinning Vortex!"

Shin shot small bursts of Aura to keep Akiro at a distance. Those hardly helped. Akiro just dodged them and when he had the chance he chipped away at Shin with the spikes. Until Shin finally gave up. He had no other choice. It would have just repeated. Dodge and chip.
Prof. Tanoji was impressed. There sure was talent in Zone A. That's all he needed to know. He rounded up all the students into two lines. They all walked out of the arena and into the building.

It's only been four days since the start of the year, but students have begun to use the ranking system. They started whenever the classes ended an hour ago. Hyuri just watched the matches as they went by. The top winners were usually: Kaizu, Shin, and Akiro.
Those three were the most experienced out of all the students in Zone A. Well, that the students knew of. In other parts of Zone A the students talked about winning every match they got into. In and out of the arena. They already proved to the others how they achieved Top 5 status.
But that wasn't the focus. Not yet...

March 4th, 2000 [Noon, Ranking Arena]
Hyuri watched as the fights went by. Wins and losses all around. He had heard about 5 other individuals who had already made the Top 5. He was impressed with how fast things were moving in the school. He wasn't sure if he would make any of the rankings so he kept it off his mind.
"Hey, Hyuri!"
He turned his head to the right. It was Kaizu. Hyuri waved at him as he sat down. Kaizu and Hyuri have talked more since yesterday. Kaizu himself has risen upon the ranks. He was in 7th place currently. Out of the three top winners, Kaizu seemed the most experienced.
"So, what do you think of this place so far, Hyuri?"
"...So far, this place seems okay. But it's still too early to decide."
Kaizu nods. They both turn to see the ongoing match. Hyuri needed another chance to prove himself, but he knew now wasn't the time.
"I'm going back to my dorm. I don't know why, but I'm feeling sleepy. See you later, Kaizu."
"Yeah, see you."
Hyuri walks out of the arena. Kaizu didn't question why he'd be taking a nap now. The students usually have a lot of homework to do after classes. So he figured it was that. He pays his attention back to the match.
