March 3rd, 2000

It was already the third day which meant we started classes today. All students in Zone A had the same classes but at different times. I turned to check the digital clock on Rei’s desk. 5:45 AM, the clock blinked.

It felt like an instinct when I had woken up fifteen minutes earlier. I silently got out of bed and changed into a plain gray T-shirt and black shorts. I put on running shoes to jog around the track the Academy had. Then, I walked out of the dorm.

***

It was now 6:35. We decided to eat breakfast in the food court since it was free. By we, I mean all six of us. The girls decided to join us for breakfast. I stopped eating and just stared at my food.

“You okay, Hyuri?”, Kensho whispered.

“Y-yeah I’m fine,” I whispered back.

“Well, eat up. You gotta have the strength to get through the day.”

I simply nodded and went back to eating. Our schedule wasn’t a long one, but they put enough time for a class to teach us. Our first class started at 7 AM sharp. Our final class ends at 11 AM. Our first class was in 25 minutes so we still had time to talk.

***

We walked into class and then saw our first teacher, Professor Tanoji. He served in the Magista Republic's military for four years.

"Okay, class. My name is Haniyume Tanoji. But you all will call me, Professor Tanoji. Today may be the first day of classes, but that doesn't mean we'll slouch around. Now I will pass out your very own Status Watch."

He walked around the class handing out the smartwatches. Advances in technology weren't surprising. But this watch seemed amazing. It could read your heartbeat, and like that can update stats in real-time. It was awesome.

"So why do we have these exactly?" a student asked.

"The school made these for the students. The reason: I have no idea. Now, this will also track your wins and losses."

"Wins and losses? For what?" I asked without realizing it.

"The ranking system that the school has in place. The watch tracks those wins and losses from the system," he explained. "Now, children grab your jackets. We're going outside."

"Wait, why?"

I was confused. We were going outside for a lesson.

"I need to see if any of you have the potential to grow," he told us all.

***

We were in one of the two stadiums just about a mile away from the courtyard. Prof. Tanoji said he was going to see who could pass the test at the end of the month. We had to display our Aura in combat.

“This is how it’ll work. I’ll say two names. Both students who got called will walk forward to face off in a friendly match. I will see how good you are with manipulating your Aura in different ways. Alright?!"

All of us nod our heads. No one knew who’d be called first. I wasn’t nervous. I was used to doing this back when I was in secondary school.

“Alright. The first two names are… Rei Shojin and Yokoshi Keya! Please walk forward.”

Rei was the first to fight. I've only known him for three days. He didn't seem to be anything special. But I watched anyway.

“Whenever you both are ready,” the professor told them.

“This will be fun don’t you think?” Yokoshi asked.

“I don’t know. Will it?”

In almost an instant Yokoshi began conjuring a shuriken in his left hand. Since the size of the shuriken was small it didn’t take much time for him to bring the depiction of the shuriken into reality.

“Wind Resonance: Shuriken Storm!"

He multiplied the shuriken and threw them all at Yokoshi. He used “Wind Aura” to conjure the shuriken, but his normal aura to multiply it.

“Heh! I’m not going down easily! Fire Resonance: Fireball!”

Rei conjured a fireball about the size of a softball. He then threw the fireball at Yokoshi. Yokoshi simply deflected the fireball with an aura shield.

“Aw, man!” Rei exclaimed.

“This fight is one-sided if Rei can’t do anything about the shield,” I mumbled.

And I was correct. Soon after, Rei got hit by more shuriken and fell right on his ass.

Whatever happened to not going down easily? But at least I knew he wouldn't pose a threat to anyone.

"Well, good job one of you," Professor Tanoji said.

"I tried my best, okay!"

And now I waited for the next two names to be called.

"Okay! The next two students will be... Kensho Yaki and Conan Hitzu."

3rd Person POV

The two have never met. They never knew of each other's existence, but here they would prove who was stronger. Neither of them had no idea what the other was planning.

"Are you both ready?" the professor asked them.

They nodded. Both were filled with the urge to fight. Hyuri had noticed this. He knew he had felt some sort of energy coming out of Kensho. Conan also had this feeling. But it seemed to be way more extreme.

"Begin!" Tanoji yelled.

And with no hesitation in mind, they shot at each other with an incredible burst of speed. That feat alone surprised the spectators. Right before the two had met. Each of them had covered one of their fists with Aura. Their fists were now as solid as rocks.

Thud!

Their solid fists had met. They both had the look of a warrior. Each glaring intensely at the other. Dead straight in the eyes. Hyuri just stared at the two. He didn't know Kensho could be this fierce. Conan jumped away from Kensho. He had something up his sleeve. And then...

"Wind Resonance: Jet Stream," Conan mumbled the first words of the fight.

He began to charge Wind Aura in both hands. Kensho knew it was a ranged attack. He began to think of what to do.

"Standing there just staring won't help your case, ya know," Conan

Kensho didn't respond. He just crouched down and placed his palms flat against the dirt of the arena.

"Earth Resonance: Trap Hole."

Conan launched two bursts of wind at Kensho. But it wouldn't reach him. Not even close. He started to hear a sound. He couldn't tell where it came from. He was confused. He kept looking left and right. Trying to find out where the sound was coming from. And then the ground around him began to crumble. He fell through the crumbled ground.

"What the hell?"

"Guess I win, right?"

Conan wasn't having it. He wasn't done fighting.

"No. Not yet. I'm not done yet!"

He escaped the hole. As if he boosted himself out. Kensho's eyes just widened. Conan ran to him and punched him. Kensho couldn't stay balanced and fell.

"I win, Kensho Yaki."

"Alright. You win."

Conan didn't seem mad or anything. Once Kensho stood up the two shook hands. They were smiling as they stepped to the side.
