March 6th, 2000

It's been three days since the start of classes. The Solo Ranks servers have been many people who tried to reach number one. I was no exception. Kaizu and I were in one of the Solo rank arenas placed inside and around the school. The seventh battle had finished. Kaizu was writing down notes about each fighter.

"Are you done?" I asked him.p

"Yeah, but I know more will happen. I'll just stay here."

Someone new walked in. No one has seen him around these parts. But he fit a description everyone mentioned.

"No way," Kaizu whispered.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"It's nothing."

I was wondering why he was here. And who he was.

"Why hello everyone. I have come here to raise my rank," the guy said aloud.

The guy looked around the room. He was looking for someone.

"Kaizu Kirigashi. I call you down to fight."

He wanted to fight Kaizu, the strongest in this part. I still wondered who he was. I looked through the ranks on Kaizu's laptop and found him. Akiro Hijame, Rank #6. Kaizu walked down from the seat next to me.

"Come on. Let's just get this over with," Kaizu said calmly.

Both of them walked onto the platform. A transparent barrier surrounded the platform. It's only been a few days since classes have started. Rivalries have been started.

"Battle Mode: Solo Rank System! Start!" they yelled.

Two screens lit up showing their names, stats, and rank. Their stats were almost equal.

"Alright. Let's begin!"

3rd Person POV

Kaizu and Akiro were ready to fight. One more excited than the other. Kaizu had known Akiro prior to the academy. He knew he had a big ego. And he finally had a chance to shatter it. Not for amusement, but so Akiro could feel defeat atleast once in his life.

"Earth Resonance: Spike Barrage!" Akiro yelled as he placed his palms against the ground.

Shortly after, spiked made from the dirt rose up and directed the points toward Kaizu.

"Fire!"

The spikes flew at him. Kaizu just deflected them with a simple aura shield.

"That all you got, Akiro?" Kaizu asked.

"It's not!"

"I was just saying."

Kaizu just ran toward him, hoping to end this quickly. He didn't seem to have the same expression as when facing Hyuri. Instead, he had a colder look on his face. Then he conjured a katana in his left hand.

"You can do it, Kaizu!!" Hyuri and the other spectators yelled.

Akiro makes one as well. And then-

Clang!

They each push with a strong force. It seems almost balanced. As if they were equal in strength no matter what. They tried to overwhelm they other.

"This'll be a bit more difficult than I expected," Akiro said struggling.

"Oh, really? That's disappointing."

The two clashed blades multiple times. They didn't hold back. They swung hard. Akiro hit Kaizu's sword out of his hand, and stabbed him. Everyone in the room gasped.

"Yeah! That's right I took down your-"

He got cut off. He looked down and saw the katana he had just used to stab Kaizu in his own body.

"What the hell-," he mumbled. "But I just stabbed you."

"You did. Correct. I just quickly took it and stabbed you. Give up?"

Akiro could hardly move now. He had finally lost.

Kaizu felt no need to continue any longer.

"I surrender, system," he said.

"Winner: Akiro Hijame."

Kaizu left the room. Not a single word spoken. Everyone was silent. Even Akiro was speechless. No one knew what to think nor say. Some were just disappointed. Others were shocked. Hyuri ran out the door in hopes of finding Kaizu again.

Hyuri's POV

Once I exited the room I looked left and right trying to find Kaizu. I was a bit upset the fight didn't last long, but that wasn't important.

"I'm right here, Hyuri."

I turned to my left he was right there. Leaning against the wall with one foot against it there he was, Kaizu.

"What was that all about?" I asked him.

"No idea to be honest. It felt like I just had to do it. And I did it."

It wasn't even a proper answer. Something was up. I've only known him for three days, but I could tell something was up.

"Just forget that ever happened, alright?" he said while he walked away.

Maybe it was best to leave him alone for now. I just walked back to my dorm to see what went on there.

Author's Note: Yes the chapter is a bit shorter than usual. And it probably sucked. I apologize.
