With all that had been going on I had yet to really build better bonds with my new family. The biggest issue I had with connecting with them was the fact I was essentially just five years younger than them if I were to combine my ages.
I already had learned more about my mom than my father. This was majorly due to the fact my father was spending most of his time working while when I was with my mom she constantly talked to old friends and colleagues over the phone.
She used to be a mid-ranking individual who had peaked at C+ ranking. This in of itself was increasing the odds of my survival. I would need to get stronger in the future but as of now I only know of one way to remove the limits on my body’s potential.
While on an excursion into the Realm of Monsters a group of A-Rank individuals found a treasure belonging to an Upper Fallen Tier Monster. The individuals were obliterated in insane levels of speed except for two of the A-Ranks who had the talent of assassin and pickpocket.
The pick-pocket talent allowed for one of the individuals to steal the guarded item known as an [Unbound Apple] undetected and finally allowed the two to escape from the Fallen Monster’s territory.
The two were stuck in the Realm of Monsters for another two months before finding a way out through another incursion portal.
To be truthful, I could technically reach S-Rank without removing my max potential as I could bypass it through certain situations like potions or treasure allowing the immediate improvement in one’s rank.
However, now was not the time to consider that. It was the time to try and get to know my family on a personal level. Over the last two years I had at least started to feel connected to my mother and father despite the age difference. I no longer saw them as people who were raising my second life but as actual family members of my new life.
I felt like I might be able to live happily with a good family in this life despite the carnage soon to occur. I would just need to get strong enough to protect them.
My mom’s side of the family had decided to meet up on a holiday. It was a custom of this day to show your love for one another as it was never known what disaster may come to this realm tomorrow.
I found myself resuming my anti-social behavior of my last life, unwilling to leave the sides of my parents despite knowing how I should really be acting.
I found myself unwilling to interact with my cousins despite their curiosity towards me. However, I was luckily not the main focus of attention because of the newest cousin, Arthur.
He was born roughly two months after I was born. I hadn’t known that one of my aunts was pregnant with him because the day they were supposed to visit she had a particularly bad case of morning sickness.
Since I was still too young, I was mostly stuck to my mother’s side.
Luckily during the conversation amongst the grown-ups one of my uncles began to ask my father about his career. This is when I finally started paying attention to the conversation as this could be good knowledge to better understand my future potential.

“So, Ross, how's the detective work been?”
This was who appeared to be my oldest uncle, he was sporting the trademark auburn hair as well as a beard. Surprisingly, despite his older appearance he didn’t sport any gray hairs.
‘So, my dad is a detective. I guess in that line of work one may still need to be awakened, especially because if an individual has talent in an investigative type of field, they’ll immediately be put on more difficult and dangerous cases making them valuable members of any team.’
“It’s been better, my team got put on the cases regarding the missing A-Rank Hero Harper. Although the case has been tough, we’ve changed the designation of the case from missing to an expected murder case.
My team discovered traces of blood within twenty kilometers of where he was last spotted, and we were able to determine he was most definitely in a scuffle with somebody of the same if not higher rank.”
‘Shit, is it that Harper? When I had been reading DFDN there was an entire arc dedicated to solving cases of a multitude of homicides of A-Rank Heroes. In fact, if I wasn’t mistaken the detective the protagonist had worked with shared the same name as my father.
This couldn’t be a coincidence; chills went down my spine as I realized that no matter what my family would end up in this mess.
The only good thing I could draw from this was the fact that my father was definitely a high ranking awakened. If I remembered him correctly from the novel, he was A+ Rank, meaning right now he was likely to be B+ Rank currently.’
It was at this point I knew that my plans would have to be further accelerated. I would need to awaken by the age of 10, a year earlier than planned.
‘Fuck sake. I’m going to have to somehow buy the herb from the Realm of Trees to awaken earlier. This knowledge wasn’t supposed to be revealed until I would be around 15 years old.
But of course, thanks to the plot fucking over everything I would need to access the web and buy the rare product. The real question was how would I be able to without drawing suspicion from my mom and father?’

Author’s Note: Another pretty info heavy chapter but there is little I can do. I do intend on having another time skip soon. I can’t throw the toddler into battles against monsters, beasts, and demons quite yet.
