Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Forest Life

"Timber!"

 

Hello everyone! It's Luna, living in the forest and cutting trees to create a simple house. As to why I was doing this? Well, let us take a step back, several days ago.

After leaving the ruins, I made my way towards the closest settlement I found on my map. After walking for a while, I reached a forest which was surrounding the plains near the ruins. I still didn't have a full scale of this continent, since I only mapped several kilometers from where I teleported.

 

At my current pace, it would take me about 3-4 hours on foot to reach the settlement, which seems like a frontier village according to my reconnaissance data from before. Most of the villagers were humans, with a few other races like dwarves and elves and beastmen.

 

There didn't seem to be any bad interactions between different races, and they were living peaceful lives as farmers, hunters and other jobs to complement the needs of the village.

 

My current looks were that of a half elf, but my actual race was a changeling. Changelings were a race different from half-breeds, as they were a special race with that have different combinations of traits acquired either from their parents or from their ancestry.

 

Half-breeds are the result of conception between two different races, but changelings are a resurgence of traits from their ancestry, which would mean that in their ancestry, there was a mix of different races along the lines.

 

I didn't about the current status of changeling but according to Tiamat's provided information, some misconceptions were thought of before about halfling and have been discriminated.

 

Due to a certain oracle received by a famous Saint, though, about changelings have been clarified, so only supremacist countries would normally look down on them.

 

Continuing my journey, I felt weird. Because after leaving the plains and entering the forest, the forest was silent. A little too silent, I would say. Checking my map, I noticed that creatures seem to be avoiding me and are staying observant at a certain distance.

 

As I continued my trip, the situation became even stranger because even harmless creatures and the like were also running away when they reach a certain distance near me.

 

Well, thinking that it was convenient, I let it be and continued my trek to reach the village in question. It wasn't exhausting for me since my body was built quite sturdy, so I continued without stopping.

 

And then when I was close to the village, with the village barrier within my vision, I stopped.

 

Why?

 

Because I noticed a reaction from the village. All of a sudden, all the villagers seem to be in a state of panic, and a lot of them either went back to what seems to be a big house, while the rest went by the entrance, to the place I was approaching.

 

Yes, it was as if they were about to intercept me. It was then that I received a message from Tiana, probably because I was within an area with a church.

 

[Ah, Luna, can you hear me?]

 

[Yes, what is it Tiana-sama?]

 

[I forgot to mention something due to being reunited with Tiamat-sama once more, but it seems like your body is oozing with chaos energy any normal being would probably feel pressured just being near you.]

 

[Uwaaah, too late!]

 

[Sorry, and since there was no communication link nearby, I was only able to watch as you moved and good thing there was a church in that village. I could contact you immediately when you came close by.]

[Not really, if it was not a proper church, the communication would go from bad to worse. But this time, it seems like a good place with a proper priest maintaining it.]

 

[I see, so if it was a church only by name, it won't be usuable.]

 

[Anyway, never mind that, you'll learn more about it some other time. More importantly, about the current situation. Can you conceal yourself and enter the depths of the forest for now? No normal creature should approach you, and also take this with you.]

Following her instructions, I moved deep into the forest on a different direction from the plains. Trekking steadily for about a few hours, I reached a place that seems to be a small spring.

 

Then, using my abilities, I created a simple pedestal and placed the orb. After doing so, the orb started to glow in rainbow colors. And then, after a while, the communication with Tiana once again connected.

 

[Good, this place should be far enough. Now, then, to explain about the situation. As I have mentioned a while ago, your body is oozing out too much chaos energy that your mere presence would make a normal human near you become insane.]

 

[Eh, what. But I don't feel anything wrong, nor do I feel anything oozing out of me.]

 

[That's because your current form doesn't have the capability to understand it, nor is it conscious of the power leaking out of your body.]

 

[I see, so should I remake my body again? In this situation, I'll end up living a vagrant life or worse. I won't even be able to go near places with normal creatures. So that's why I was being avoided by creatures regardless if they were monsters or animals. What about the reaction of the village though.]

 

[Well, if you sensed that an impossibly strong being is approaching your village with enough pressure that could be felt from very far away, what would you do?]

 

[Ah, I see… so what should I do now?]

 

[You have 2 options for now, rebuild your body once more or just train to be able to control it.]

 

[Would I be able to control it through training only?]

 

[If it's under my guidance, you should technically be able to do so, but it would probably take some time. As for rebuilding, you would need to consciously recreate yourself and add certain options that you would need to get used to. You would also still need some training, regardless.]

 

[I see, so the choices would be like, train longer with my current body, or recreate it and train for a shorter period?]

 

[That is so. Should I ask Tiamat about it too?]

 

[Nah, you don't have to, I mean if I rely on Tiamat for everything, then it won't be much of an enjoyable journey in her eyes. So, I will probably just recreate myself once more and train for now.]

 

[Good choice, then, for now, call out your core and recreate your body, or rather, can you modify it?] 

 

[I don't know, I have been doing it unconsciously so I will try.]

 

And so, my not so long forest life started.
