Currently, Karise and Orin are standing just in front of the mostly unconscious middle-aged demihuman. The man and his demihuman woman just came up to them. Some of the crowd members notice the man with the mongrel as well and start quieting down. Karise is unsure what's going on here.
First of all, even disregarding this strange human's physical appearance, he doesn't have a lot of mana. She can't really get a feel for his mana with all the people in the crowd messing up her mana sensing, but in order to confront her and Orin, he should at least have something noticeable.
She glances at Orin. He looks at the man with sharp eyes, sharp instincts and sharp mana senses. He feels very little of note but doesn’t drop his guard. Yet, he's not willing to move, so Karise decides she can continue standing here too.
This guy, Ajax was what she called him? He doesn't have much going on strength-wise, but… why is he…
"And what do we get if we decide to move?" Karise decides to offer this question cautiously.
The black haired man looks like he wasn’t expecting this question. His expression turns to one of confusion and curiosity. He scratches his head in contemplation while looking at the ground. Then, he reaches some sort of realization.
"...How about I give you two silver coins?" He states proudly.
"Ajax… what… are you thinking!?" The demihuman woman whispers anxiously. Karise didn’t bother remembering her name, though she’s sure Ajax had mentioned it.
Neither Orin nor Karise were expecting this sort of offer from him. Two silver coins isn't a bad offer to leave someone alone if they weren't here on their own sort of mission. But he came out here with some resolve, so is he really willing to end this with money?
If Ajax's understanding of currency is correct, then the worth of 2 silver coins is between $625 and $1250 back on Earth. Though, he doesn't put the math together at the moment, instead thinking of it as "just two silver coins".
"That's a nice offer… but–" Karise starts, but Ajax interrupts her.
"Oh! What about ten silver coins?" The young man beams. Karise gets the feeling that he doesn't know how to negotiate.
To increase your bid that sharply can only be thought of as foolhardy. He doesn't seem to understand the value of money either. The demihuman whore seems to have more common sense as her expression turns to one of deep horror.
"H-Hey! What the fuck to you think you're–"
"It's ok, Prisca, I know what I'm doing. I can get the money to you within five minutes; my friend, Shaula, has some of it." He confirms, to Karise's slight bewilderment.
The fuck? Is he making fun of us?
"Ajax… even if you have that kind of money to so easily hand away… I-I don't want you to give it to people like this." Prisca murmurs. Her eyes look towards Karise with a slightly downcast expression, while not even turning to face Orin directly.
Karise's eyes narrow as she observes the orange haired woman once again. This human is on her side and he's taking her advice so easily. His odd attitude and outlandish dealing almost made her forget that fact. He's a race traitor, someone who seems to be friends with that beastie.
Karise looks over at Orin; unlike her, he hasn't been amused at all with Ajax's bravado, watching him carefully this whole time. His eyes are cold. He's wearing light armor with a short sword holster and his hand is already on the sword pommel.

He's grown wary. Of this guy? Karise is surprised. Then Karise realizes why. This guy, Ajax, he… he isn’t succumbing to Orin’s fear spell. What kind of will does he have that he can so easily walk up to the two of them and–
Ajax sighs, taking Prisca's words to heart.
Realistically, he could already tell that neither of them look willing to deal. If he could solve this situation with a quick, discreet exchange of money, that would result in less attention being placed on both him and Prisca.
Though, he slowly starts to piece together how his impulsiveness almost cost him two silver coins for virtually no benefit.
Actually wait, wouldn't giving strangers a bunch of money to leave someone alone draw more attention to me and Prisca? We’d be more likely to get confronted and robbed, which could bring the guards towards us and…
He feels slightly bad knowing that Shaula is right about what she tells him every single time they go outside together.
"Ajax, you're not very street smart, and worse than that you’re too impulsive. If you come across a weird situation, think like me instead of yourself. Think to yourself, 'what would Shaula do?'"
She wouldn't hand over lots of money to violent racists, that's for sure. The fuck is wrong with me? Forget all that. Now comes the real challenge…
Ajax crosses his arms.
“Hmm…” He stares at both Orin and Karise.
Ajax wonders how he can get the racist man and woman out of his way while drawing the least amount of attention to himself and Prisca. Though, when push comes to shove, the health of that demihuman man on the ground is the most important thing right now.
Let's see if I can focus on helping him out first and make up the rest along the way.
Ajax leaps forward.
He reaches his right hand out towards Karise's face. She wasn't expecting him to do something like that, his movements are fluid and precise. To Ajax, she looks like a deer in the headlights of a semi-trailer, unable to react to impending danger. Orin grabs Karise's right arm and yanks her to the side out of Ajax's path, having no time to block the young man with his sword.
Karise, having regained her composure, retreats with Orin. Both of them draw their weapons in defense against this strange, yet fast human. Orin draws his short sword, a sharp, single edged blade that looks magically enhanced. It glows bright green, its specific tint however looks somewhat sickly.
Karise takes out two daggers. Her weapon would normally be a crossbow capable of firing arrows (with arrowheads similar to hollow point bullets from Earth). But, that is a weapon prohibited at a public area such as this. Even the statue marchers were not allowed to carry such weapons into this area.
Her daggers however are sharp, hard, and glow with dim white light. These daggers are actually coated with a compound that is normally inert, but when excited with a certain mana attribute can turn into a potent magical paralytic.
"...Was that really so hard now?" Ajax asks, innocently.
