Chapter 16: Chapter 16. Evolution!

I groaned and tried wiggling out of my hiding spot. I had been snug, but apparently, my evolution had made me grow a little, and it had gone from snug to pinching tightly.

Important safety tip. If you are going to grow larger overnight, don’t do it while you are surrounded by stone. I was just glad I was still able to breathe as I wriggled my way out of the hide, past the levered stone door, and then managed to drag myself down the wall via the slightly-smaller handholds.

I guess I was glad that that Kreeark thing had been territorial, I didn’t know if I would have been able to fight as a tried to stretch my muscles and work out the kinks in them and my tail. It was odd… my body felt...different. I knew I was taller, but I felt better too, like looking back after a good month’s daily work after a long tour, and gaining back what you felt like you lost due to confinement. Working out on a rolling ship was never as good as doing it ashore. Even though I loved the ocean, and being in the deck department was constant work, the constant fatigue, lack of sleep, and watchstanding left you feeling less than fit after a 6-month deployment.

Still, it had its advantages. And it actually made me wonder if this new world had clean, wide-open oceans to sail. I loved the old idea of wooden ships and iron men that sailed them. Perhaps once I returned to humanity that would be a better option than trying to return to a world where I would be almost a hundred years out of date.
