Riber's breakfast consisted of a sandwich-like dish as the main course, complemented by a small serving of beans on the side.
As he looked over his plate, Riber couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment at the lack of additional dishes.
He had expected that the wealthy nobles would have a meal of roast turkey or roast suckling pig, or something of that nature.
Where was the grand banquet that had been promised?
Could it be that, in consideration of not being able to eat a lot for breakfast, something easy to eat was chosen?
Without much thought, Riber picked up a bean, popped it into his mouth, and then took a bite of the main dish.
Once he had finished chewing and swallowing, Riber confirmed that the main dish was indeed a sandwich.
The two slices of bread that encased the sandwich were hard to chew and had a gritty texture, indicating that the baking was not done properly.
Inside the sandwich were only some vegetables that Riber couldn't name.
The vegetables themselves were not bad, some resembling tomatoes, sweet and sour, with a hint of earthy aroma. But that was all there was to it.
Although the sandwich was edible, it couldn't be considered delicious by any means.
The only taste was that of the vegetables.
Riber, being a human and not a rabbit, could not find satisfaction with just a plate of pure, natural leaves. He couldn't help but question if this was the standard of breakfast prepared by the chef at the Count's mansion.
Two slices of pre-made bread with leaves in between, even a monkey could probably make it.
Or perhaps, if a monkey were to make it, it might know to sprinkle some salt or something.
Due to the subtle taste of the sandwich, Riber couldn't help but frown.
At this moment, the butler, who had been standing behind Riber at an angle, suddenly exclaimed,
"Young master! How can you do such an improper act of grabbing food directly with your hands?"
Upon hearing the butler's voice, Riber's reflexes kicked in and he panicked. He then noticed that next to the plate, there was a knife and fork placed.
But was the old man serious?
Did he have to cut bread with a knife and fork?
And those bean-like things, with a texture similar to nuts, had a smooth and crisp outer skin, which was a bit laborious to grab with your hands. Cutting and spearing beans with a knife and fork, was that etiquette or a circus trick?
Turning his head to the side, Riber maintained his frowning posture and looked at the butler.
At this point, he wasn't panicking anymore.
Perhaps it was the confidence that came with being the protagonist, Riber was no longer worried that his identity as a transmigrator would easily be revealed.
Rather, if he was only exposed because of some occasional abnormal behavior, then the problem wasn't with him, but with the people around him.
"Young, young master...Even if you put pressure on me, it's useless. Our Sabas family, from our ancestors, has been the vassals of the Camperett family. I have received an education from my lord and mistress about the duty of serving the young master. As one of the top nobles in the kingdom, the head of the Camperett family, every move of the young master is related to the face of the nobility. Therefore, even if it's just a little bit of a breach of etiquette, I also...I also..."
After being stared at by Riber for a moment, the Sabas butler panicked and then spoke eloquently for a while, becoming more and more flustered.
In the end, Sabas, like a stuck record, repeated "I also" a few times, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and simply turned his face away.
If he hadn't seen the young master's actions, the young master would not have breached etiquette.
Meanwhile, Riber looked at the solo comedy performance of Sabas and at first thought the man was a bit stiff and verbose, but later found him quite intriguing.
...
After breakfast, the butler, Sabas, pondered over the abnormal behavior of his young master.
He deduced that the cause of the bad mood must have been the breakfast meal.
Consequently, Sabas sought out the mansion's chef to settle the account.
Meanwhile, Riber strolled through his grand mansion.
The Count's mansion had three floors, each with twelve to fifteen rooms, most of which were unused.
As he walked, he felt something amiss.
It seemed as though there were too few servants in the mansion.
Apart from the glowing maid, the butler Sabas, and the chef who was currently arguing with Sabas, there was no one else in the mansion.
No matter how he thought about it, even with the four of them, it would be impossible for the vast mansion to function normally.
He wondered if this was due to the world being a game, with NPCs not designed in abundance, or if there was another reason.
Confused, Riber walked out of the mansion and saw several people dressed as servants in the courtyard.
The outside of the Count's mansion was divided into two main areas: the front and the back.
In front of the mansion, there is a well-groomed lawn and a clear water pond for viewing. In the back of the mansion, there is a garden.
A gardener could be found in the front yard, working on the lawn, and in the backyard, a florist was taking care of the flowers.
Additionally, there were two people at the main gate of the mansion, who acted as gatekeepers.
In total, there were eight people living in the Count's mansion.
However, this was still not enough.
Interestingly, the gardeners and gatekeepers were all middle-aged men, whereas the florist was a young lady. None of them were emitting the same glow as the maid.
From this observation, Riber surmised that the potential source of the lighting could be a character that can be conquered within the game.
"Could it be that the maid girl is a character that can be conquered within the game?"
Riber murmured to himself, then shook his head.
Currently, within the mansion, there is only one maid and she is responsible for cleaning the entire mansion. And the mansion has over forty rooms.
Therefore, the maid may not have had time for anything other than cleaning all day.
Naturally, it is even less likely that she can be conquered.
Perhaps, it is necessary to hire a new maid?
Then, the addition of the new maid sparked new developments, causing the previously silent maid to become jealous and take action...
Upon this realization, Riber's heart shook, believing that he had found the correct way to advance the plot.
As he prepared to sweep away from his imagination, he saw an incredibly unbelievable scene in the front courtyard.
The gardener in the front courtyard was a middle-aged man with a slightly unsteady gait and hunched back. He had been pruning branches prior to this.
There were many trees lined up, and each one was quite tall. Therefore, in order to prune the high branches, the gardener had to stand on a ladder.
Perhaps it was the act of climbing up and down the ladder or moving the ladder that was too cumbersome.
The gardener suspiciously looked around before simply standing up straight.
Then, he walked to a tree that was next to one without a ladder, leaped at least two meters high, floated for over ten seconds, and calmly trimmed the branches with his gardening shears before landing securely. He then walked to the next tree and leaped again...
…
At the front gate of the mansion.
Riber slightly opened his mouth and looked at the gardener who had previously been jumping around like a flying person, but had now turned back into a hunchbacked middle-aged man. He couldn't help but rub his eyes.
