Volume 1: Chapter 6, A Scene of Conventional Agreement

Soon, lunchtime arrived.

Count Riber's lunch consisted of a shallow bowl of consommé, a stack of beans, and a plate of vegetables.

The soup had a thick appearance, but upon tasting, its flavor proved to be mild, much to the Count's surprise. The beans remained the same hard, nut-like texture from the morning, and the vegetables, while similar in appearance and texture to sprouts, were a different color.

In general, the Count's chef was still raising rabbits.

Therefore, Count Riber had a frown on his face throughout the meal.

During lunch, another event took place - Count Riber realized that his utensils only consisted of a spoon. The spoon was small, making it difficult to scoop up the green vegetables that resembled sprouts.

After a few attempts and only managing to retrieve a few sprouts, the Count's blood pressure began to rise. So, he instructed his butler to summon the gardener to the dining hall.

Under the Count's direction, the gardener quickly carved a pair of chopsticks from two branches.

It could only be said that the gardener, who was capable of jumping several meters, had truly fast and efficient handiwork.

However, upon receiving the initial command, the gardener's expression was complex, as if it contained resistance and dissatisfaction.

But this, of course, did not deter Count Riber. He simply continued to observe the gardener for a moment, until the latter eventually ceded.

After this incident, Count Riber felt certain.

His naturally cold demeanor seemed to have an automatic function of exerting pressure on others.

However, Count Riber always felt that this approach of oppressing others with a glare whenever an issue arose, did not align with the image of the protagonist being noble and shining.

In any case, lunch became a rushed affair for Count Riber, amidst the shouts of his butler, Sabas, "Master, how can you eat like a barbarian with a wooden stick!"

After the meal, Sabas, like in the morning, went to find the chef to complain.

Next, it was time for afternoon tea.

Perhaps because the tea was personally brewed by Sabas, Count Riber did not find fault with it throughout the experience.

Then, it was time for dinner.

The daily routine of the Count was monotonous. This could be due to the unvarying nature of dinner, commonly referred to as the main meal, or the ramifications of Sebas's mischief.

As evening approached, the Count's household's chef presented a grand dish. A platter of raw meat.

It must be said, although the origin of the meat was unknown, the thin slices of alternating textures of raw meat sashimi had an invigorating effect on the appetite.

However, Rebecca had never been one for consuming raw meat.

Due to a childhood encounter with records of parasitic worms, he had a psychological aversion to consuming raw meat. Additionally, in this world where modern medicine was not particularly advanced, Rebecca deemed it wise to avoid consuming raw foods that may potentially harbor parasites.

Thus, he passed the platter of raw meat to Sebas.

"Take it back and have it properly cooked," he said.

Sebas accepted the platter, as if he wanted to say something, but remained silent, taking the platter and leaving.

And then, Sebas never returned.

From the commotion within the dining hall, it appeared that Sebas was likely engaged in a scuffle with the chef.

Thus, Count Riber, feeling that interrupting their emotional exchange would be inappropriate, simply filled up on side dishes before retiring to his own room.

Upon returning to his room, Riber noticed that it was significantly brighter than before. The reason for this was the newly-hung chandelier on the ceiling.

Initially, Riber had not given it much thought, but the more he thought about it, the more he felt something was off.

It was known that there were only four people in the household during the day.

He, Sebas, the chef, and the maid.

Sebas had also been keeping the chef occupied.

With this in mind, did the maid, alone, not only clean up the large chandelier that had fallen to the floor, but also repair the floor and hang a new chandelier?

How did she manage it?

Gazing up at the gleaming chandelier, Riber was lost in thought.

Was there a group of mysterious servants lurking within the household, or was the maid also skilled in various tasks like a gardener?

Could it be that, in this world where magic existed, everyone used it?

After staring at the chandelier for a while without coming to any conclusions, Riber let out a sigh and left his room.

He was still too ignorant about this world. A full day had passed and he had not even figured out the basics of those around him.

After leaving his room, Riber's destination was the second-floor bathhouse.

After observing throughout the day, Riber discovered that every floor of the household had a large bathhouse and a toilet or washroom.

This indicated that, if the household didn't have a sewage system, there must be some mysterious magic at work.

Soon, Riber arrived at the entrance of the bathhouse and pushed open the door, only to be frozen in place by the scene before him.

In a GALGAME world, how could such an exciting and predictable scenario be missing?

In the changing room connected to the bathhouse, the maid was half-undressed, her top hanging from her arm.

It must be an illusion.

Riber felt that the maid's aura was even more glowing.

Within the changing room, there was also a faint mist, but it was nowhere near the level of holy knights.

With her intimate clothing barely covering her, the maid's large expanse of fair skin was laid bare before Riber.

In that moment....

It was as if time had frozen in silence.

Perhaps due to the fact that she was a mute character, the maid did not react in the conventional way by screaming and throwing flying objects at Riber, even though she had noticed him looking at her.

And Riber, in turn, was even less likely to be the one to scream.

Thus, in the long silence, the maid calmly looked directly at Riber, while Riber, his face also calm (because he was paralyzed), looked back at her.

In this situation, where they appeared to be engaged in an intense stare-down, Riber felt that he was not at a disadvantage.

Why, then, was the other person so composed?

Riber's gaze shifted slightly, taking in the maid's intimate clothing.

There were hardly any curves or contours present.

...

Could this person be a cross-dresser who wasn't fazed even when looked at, explaining their lack of reaction?

Just as Riber was having wild thoughts, the maid finally moved.

She turned her head silently, removed her maid's top and placed it in the basket in front of her before continuing to undress without hesitation.

Riber knew that he could no longer use being paralyzed as an excuse to keep watching.

So, he closed the door to the bathhouse once more.

"Phew..."

Outside the bathhouse, Riber let out a sigh of relief.

Then, as if nothing had occurred, he turned and headed back to his room.

However, although his posture was that of walking, his speed was perhaps even faster than running.

Riber even speculated that the sport known as race walking may have been born from similar circumstances.

Upon returning to his room, Riber closed and locked the door firmly, then sank heavily to the floor, his heart pounding.

Riber's inner turmoil was not due to his inexperience with such things, although in reality, he had never seen anything like it.

It was because in that brief moment, or rather, that extended moment, he had seen something deeply concerning.

He spotted a square-shaped tattoo on the left abdomen of the maidservant.

It was a symbol he had only seen in the newspaper that morning - the mark of a nefarious secret organization, the "Church of Damnation," whose members were wanted and heavily bountied throughout the kingdom.

Also known as the "Perfect Cube."
