Worst Comes to Worst, We’ll Negotiate With the Ghost (2)

Mu Yueshi was very obedient, but there was a moment where a shred of hesitancy flashed across his pretty face.

Ding Yi made up her mind to talk with the ghost, so she prepared a whole set of candles, paper money, and various other types of offerings in anticipation of what was to happen.

The door with peeling paint had already been broken, and she wasn’t in any mood to fix it, so she left it as is.

The door was left ajar, and after supper, Ding Yi and Mu Yueshi brought a bench over to the middle of the yard. The two sat there with reckless abandon, poised with dignity, waiting for night to come.

Come! Nobody’s afraid of you!

When the sky went dark and the moon climbed to its apex, there was the faint barking of dogs in the distance. A cold draft swept by, the ambience of the night taking an eerie turn.

Ding Yi hugged Mu Yueshi tight, attempting to calm her heart. She stared at the doorway, asking the system: Is it here? Is it here? Can our dignified presence overwhelm it?

The system fell silent for a moment: I have a true sight* trial card, do you want to try it out?

*(lit. Ying Yang sight, eyes which can see that which should not be seen, range of effect depends on setting)

Ding Yi: Why do you even have to ask? Use it! Quick, quick.

As soon as Ding Yi opened her eyes with her new skill in effect, she almost lost control of her bowels at the scene before her!

As soon as she opened her eyes, the surroundings had changed. A translucent white shadow fluttered in the doorway, and the chilly winds turned into low, resentful sobs, transforming the clean yard into a creepy mourning hall.

And right in front of her was a female ghost, staring at her with its head cocked and mouth stretched into a bloody smile!!

“You’re the ones… who opened the door for me…” The ghost’s grating voice broke up at unnatural intervals as she laughed darkly “…stay with me… like the rest of them… all stay with me…”

Ding Yi’s teeth started to chatter uncontrollably. The effects of true sight were way too realistic! The ghost was so scary when it laughed!! Her 180 degree turning head almost fell onto me!!

System! Save me! Save meeeeeeee!!

System: It can’t hurt you. The more you show your fear, the bolder that thing will be.

Ding Yi was currently frozen stiff.

But the ghost, who was originally aiming for Ding Yi, suddenly shifted its focus onto Mu Yueshi. With a wail, its face turned savage.

It was coming for Mu Yueshi!

Ding Yi subconsciously flipped out. Before she could even comprehend what she was doing, her hand slapped the ghost! “Stop! Don’t touch him!!”

It was unclear as to whether it was because of Ding Yi’s majestic slap, but the bloody ghost’s head suddenly fell onto the ground…

“…”

“…”

Ding Yi could only sit there, dumbstruck, extremely impressed with herself!

It was unexpected, but it seems I can face monsters and ghosts head on. Wow, so I had such a powerful hidden setting?!!

The system suddenly interrupted: Don’t be mistaken. I was afraid you’d be scared, so I gave you a temporary enhancement. The points have already been deducted from your account.

Afterwards, Ding Yi heard the heartbreaking sound of points disappearing!

Mu Yueshi saw Ding Yi’s face turn pale, and he expressionlessly looked at the bloody head on the ground. His eyes turned even colder.

He knew he should’ve burned the remains in the well this morning.

After the debacle and having both seen and hit the ghost, Ding Yi suddenly felt less afraid.

She turned around, lifting her chin towards the ghost: “Can you just speak normally? If you can, put your head back on and stop trying to kill people. We can talk it out!”

The ghost seemed to be in a daze and picked up its head from the ground, reattaching it with a crack. It stood there dumbly, still looking as creepy as ever.

Ding Yi still felt uncomfortable looking at it, so she averted her gaze, asking: “Alright, what do you want? You’ve been dead for many years already. Even if you were originally wronged, you’ve killed many people and thus have a heavy sin to bear for all you’ve done.”

“They all deserved it! Deserved it!!” The ghost wailed. As it spoke, two trails of bloody tears trickled down its cheeks: “… I didn’t do anything… They’re the ones that forced me to do it! They forced me!!”

Listening to the ghost caused Ding Yi’s head to throb, and she felt angry with what the ghost had said, replying coldly: “Why didn’t you find the ones who hurt you? Who forced you to stay here and kill innocents?”

Although the original owner might have had a just grievance, she had killed many people over the years, most of them having nothing to do with the original crime. She wasn’t innocent at all.

After hearing what Ding Yi had said, the ghost froze for a second.

The ghost then fell into a spooky laughter, its expressions stiff. It slowly lifted its head and smiled: “I am taking revenge.”

“What?”

“That person said- everyone who comes here is guilty! So you are too!!” Having said that, the ghost suddenly attacked, its skeletal arms reaching for Ding Yi’s heart!
