The Correct Way Of Feeding The Sick And Delicate Villain Chapter 42

Working Hard to Earn Money (2)

This woman was poor in brain power but quite rich with generosity!

And so Ding Yi expressed some advice in a manner that she felt the madam could accept: “Your esteemed manor has quite the number of people, and so after many years of accrual, there is some accumulation of malevolent energies. Children have weak souls which are especially vulnerable to such energies, and so in these few nights, you should pay particular attention to your son, madam.”

Those concubines in your manor are all poisonous beauties, and your family only has such an heir for all its wealth. You need to be cautious against scoundrels.

The madam’s face went pale with fright, and she repeatedly expressed her thanks.

With a wave of her hand, Ding Yi courteously led the madam outside.

It was shameful, but she put food on the table yet another day through fraud.

As Ding Yi was about to turn around and go back inside, she almost bumped into person.

She stopped and saw that it was a neighbor who had moved in next door around two years ago. A scholar who had been unsuccessful for many years at the imperial examinations, the frail Wen Xiucai*.

*(A scholar who had passed the first of three levels of imperial examination. To become a bureaucrat you needed to pass all three, and in some cases two.)

Ding Yi was surprised for a brief moment before greeting him familiarly: “Good morning Mister Liu, have you eaten yet?”

Wen Xiucai was a bookish young man whose mannerisms were quite pedantic. After being blinded by Ding Yi’s radiant smile, his face turned red from embarrassment.

“Ye-yes… Miss Ding. The-these are the Yi Jing and ritual texts that you’ve asked me to transcribe. Would you please review them.” Wen Xiucai handed over a stack of papers.

Ding Yi was delighted: “Wonderful! I thought the time frame was a bit tight, but you made it. Thanks Mister Wen. Ah… wait a moment. How much do I owe you? I’ll pay you right now.”

“It-it’s not necessary,” said Wen Xiucai while rubbing his nose. “I’ve already received enough help from Miss Ding, s-so you could just think of it as an expression of my gratitude.”

Ding Yi creased her brows: “How could I? We’ve already agreed on the remuneration. So here! Take it!”

Wen Xiucai wasn’t a very articulate person. After being forcefully stuffed with two pieces of silver, his face turned bright red. When Ding Yi got close to hand him the silvers, he took the opportunity to sneak a look at Ding Yi’s pretty profile, the throbbing of his heart growing ever so apparent.

He gathered his courage, and said: “Miss Ding, actually I…”

“I’m home.”

A cold, crisp voice cut its way into the conversation.

Wen Xiucai was rendered speechless. He looked towards the person who was speaking.

Just two steps away was a youth wearing white brocade robes. His hair was done up high, his face as flawless as jade. He was expressionless, but his eyes exuded an impassive darkness and seemed to be hiding a sharp iciness beneath its calm exterior.

Although the sun was still high up in the sky, Wen Xiucai unconsciously shivered.

Ding Yi popped her head out, saw that it was Mu Yueshi, and was momentarily confused.

“Why have you returned so early today? Did you do something wrong?” she asked worriedly.

When Mu Yueshi saw Ding Yi, the shadows beneath his eyes instantly vanished and a sunny smile flashed across his face.

He hurriedly greeted the awkward Wen Xiucai and walked right past him, answering Ding Yi with a docile smile: “No, the teacher had some things to take care of, so we got the day off. Ding Yi, are you hungry? I bought chicken from your favorite shop. Let’s go eat!”

As he was saying that, Mu Yueshi intimately hooked Ding Yi’s arm and led her towards the house.

Ding Yi was pretty much dragged away, and so she could only hurriedly say: “That… Wen Xiucai, thank you!”

Wen Xiucai could only squeeze out a stiff smile before his expression collapsed into one of dismay as he stared at the silver pieces in his hand.

Every single time, Miss Ding’s brother would show up at the critical moment…

Wen Xiucai could only laugh self-mockingly and return home disappointed. Once again, he had failed to confess to his love interest.

At the same time, his love interest was drooling over some chicken drumstick.

“Delicious, delicious! Every time I go, it’s always sold out. How did you manage to buy one?” Ding Yi was almost on the verge of tears from the happiness she was feeling.

Mu Yueshi smiled: “It’s probably just my luck.”

It wasn’t that hard. He only had to get up early and go ask the storeowner to leave one for him.

Ding Yi was starving. She didn't have anything other than pumpkin seeds all day, so there was not a shred of dignity left in her eating posture.

Mu Yueshi sat there calmly smiling and watched Ding Yi eat. Sometimes he would get her more rice, sometimes he would pour her water, he was an absolute sweetheart.

The boy was now all grown up. His face was unrealistically beautiful, and his dark eyes held the stars. It didn’t matter if he smiled or not, he was mesmerizing.

He was living up to his reputation as the most popular villain. The demon’s unparalleled charisma was starting to show itself!

Ding Yi felt a sense of overwhelming accomplishment. The boss’s beauty was amazing!

But as she kept looking, she suddenly felt melancholic. The boss’s beauty was for the female protagonist. There was no reason for cannon fodder to get all excited over it.

It sucks.

Mu Yueshi astutely noticed that Ding Yi was suddenly down, and he felt uneasy. It wasn’t the first time she was like this… he wanted to ask her, but there was suddenly knocking at the door.

Ding Yi got up to answer the door while Mu Yueshi quietly sat in the room. He stoically gazed  towards the figure in the doorway, his eyes gloomy.
