Chapter 10: Cocoon

Kai ran around the area where the red rock was, but he only found a few red bees flying around and not a single one of them had a rune. That was starting to get boring… he thought that he should reach level ten before trying to destroy the thing, but at that rate, it would get dark before it happened.

"Maybe if I attack it, the red bees that have spread across the city will come here and attack me," Kei thought while showing a wicked smile. "That will be fun… as long as I don't get surrounded, I will be fine."

In the end, thanks to the bad experience with his arm, Kai checked the area around him and found a place that he could use to face the monsters without being surrounded. It was a small pet shop… the entrance had been destroyed, but it was small enough only to let a few monsters enter at the same time.

"I can run here if too many of them show up since I should be faster than them, but my stamina can only last for so long," Kai thought. "Still, if I don't kill them fast enough, I will get hurt, and that will slow me down, and that will lead to more problems… well, it doesn't matter. I will be faster than them."

Kai approached the weird meteor and confirmed that the red part hadn't increased much, thanks to his actions. Still, once he approached. He heard an odd sound, and the meteor trembled a little… he took another step and confirmed that the meteor was pulsating like a cocoon… it was exactly that.

Kai fired a sword at the red part, and then some blood left the place he had hit. It soon closed afterward, though. Still, four red bees emerged from the top of the cocoon and then flew to him.

"Hehehe, It wouldn't be fun in any other way…" Kai said. "Still, you are seriously underestimating me."

The bees tried to surround him as if they were being controlled. Once they began to fly in circles around him, they increased their speed and suddenly attacked. Kai heard the sound when their wings began to flap differently and then lowered his stance and charged forward… he escaped the stings of the beasts and then impaled the head of one of them.

[You obtained 01 experience point.]

Before the others could stop, he approached the next and then stabbed its head as well. The difference in speed was clear against creatures of that level… the remaining creatures moved away while still flying in circles, but Kai heard the sound of more wings flapping behind him after he also heard the sound of the cocoon pulsating.

"That thing can produce monsters pretty fast… it is probably using human blood to do that," Kai thought. "That means, once it runs out of fuel, it is as good as dead…"

Kai also had to consider what would happen once the cocoon was filled with blood, but that was a problem for another time. Ten more bees left the cocoon to attack him, and they moved to attack him from above as well.

"Oh? I am glad that you can use your head, dear cocoon," Kai said.

Kai thought that they would charge, but in fact, they began to tremble, and that made him flinch. He had some bad memories about that…

Kai used Sword Materialization and impaled one of the monsters, forcing an opening in their formations, and then threw himself in that direction to escape the encirclement. He escaped the attack somehow… he did the right thing in increasing his speed and perception.

When he turned around, the beasts were trying to produce their next stings, but then he heard the sound of more wings flapping… he didn't have time to waste. He quickly stabbed the monsters nearby, and after killing three of them with his knife, Kai saw dozens of bees approaching.

"Time for the strategic retreat," Kai said and began to run.

Kai didn't hesitate to run to the pet shop. He had to pull that off since in the corner of his field of vision. He saw that the red mark on the cocoon had decreased… whatever the hell that was, it was losing fuel and quite fast.

Kai entered the pet store and already turned to face the enemies. The wall still was thirty meters behind him, but he didn't have to put his back against it so soon. It didn't take long for one of the monsters to show, and he sliced the knife in its face. He barely felt any resistance, and the monster didn't have to do anything aside from dying… the parameters bonus sure made him stronger.

When the next enemies showed up, Kai took a step behind and then swung his knife horizontally when they attacked at the same time. Two more down beasts for the count… the step backward gave Kai enough room to fix his stance before the next group showed.

Instead of approaching, five red bees prepared to fire their stings, but Kai killed two of them by dashing toward them, and the others were impaled by the swords he fired.

"I was planning to save mana in case the creature sends more monsters, but…" Kai thought and then grabbed one of the corpses of the monsters.

More five bees fired their stingers, but Kai blocked them with the corpse, and it wouldn't resist the next wave of attacks. Fortunately, the beasts needed some time to recover their stingers… so he used that chance to slice them apart.

Kai smirked since that boost in strength just increased the difference between him and the monsters…
