Nathaniel:
There are storm clouds in the sky. It was sunny the entire day. The light of the streetlamps is only good enough to light the way, but our surroundings are drenched in darkness.
When we reach the temple of Harika, I feel a slight itch on my skin. That is good. It means that the temple is good enough, to destroy the crystal.
"Wait here, I'll be going in alone," Givontair says, and I make a couple of steps back. I will wait for him to come out. It is not like I can't stand a little itch. Giv enters the temple, and then closes the door behind him.
I hear someone clear their throat behind me. I turn around, and see him. Sorix has a smirk on his face. His brown eyes are sparkling with mischief.
"I have always wondered just how one of these," he points at the temple. "Looks from the inside. Have you ever been in a temple?"
He doesn't seem to be itching for a fight. Now, the stormy clouds make sense. I really should have known, that the Dread Lord was spying on us.
"I wasn't born a necromancer," I say, trying to buy time. What are the chances, that Sorix knows that Giv is inside the temple? Did he see the dragon enter?
"What you let your man do, is a mistake. You will never get a mana more potent than my own," I wonder what is this new tactic. Does Sorix want to recruit me? "Hey, I have a question for you: How much do you like the dragon?"
"I don't like him, I love him," a part of me bristles at the fact, that someone would question Giv's and my relationship.
"Well, it is rather strange that you don't like the one who you love, is it not?" I can feel the mana gathering around the Dread Lord. "You are supposed to be my underling. I don't take to competition from the servants lightly."
"I don't worship the Dread Lord," I snarl. Let him attack me now, if he so wishes. I am not backing down.
"Which is why you are mediocre. Tell me, when you attacked that turtle with my mana, how did you feel?" I blink at the question. It was a time for me, where my mind was split in two. There was me, and then there was something else. My eyes narrow.
"You let us take your mana, didn't you?" I ask him. He smiles down at me.
"I didn't need it anymore. I won't be doing hit-and-run. My mission demands a bigger push," he makes a couple of steps towards me. When he reaches me, he eyes me up.
"The dragon will be mine," the Dread Lord says. I take out my sword.
"He is my soulmate. You'd have to kill me, to get him," that earns me a chuckle.
"Just that?" The next thing I know, I am flying towards a tree. My back connects to the trunk, and I feel as if a rib just broke from the impact. Still, I get up, and charge at the Dread Lord.
He sends another wind attack towards me, but I am prepared. I roll under the attack, and then try to hack off his leg. My sword meets a barrier. I am just about to try and overcharge the barrier, when the temple door swings open.

Givontair takes only one look at Sorix, and breathes fire at him.
"Darling, why the rude welcome?" Sorix says with a chuckle. His barrier becomes a spider web of cracks, just like last time. This time, however, he doesn't run.
Sorix takes a hold of Givontair, and throws him at the same tree, that he threw me at. Giv doesn't slam in it. Like a cat, he positions himself in such a way, that he is back on his feet, right before the tree.
"Do you see, novice? Now, this is what I call grace. The dragon is wasted on you," Sorix's eyes are half-lidden, as if he is admiring something precious.
Givontair doesn't let him make another remark. He takes out his dagger, and throws it. The weapon embeds in the barrier. I don't need further prompting.
I grit my teeth through the pain, and charge Sorix. Not only that, but I slam my sword right next to the dagger.
When the sword manages to pierce the barrier, I try to push it even deeper. For the first time since I saw Sorix, he seems afraid. The Dread Lord jumps out of his barrier, and puts some distance from me.
"I just wanted to recruit you," he says, loud enough for us to hear. Neither I nor Giv care about that. We share a look, and charge the now exposed necromancer together.
Before we reach him, he disappears in a puff of smoke.
"He knows we are here," I say, as Givontair places his dagger back in the sheath.
"I still can't leave. Elves are depending on me," I don't like Givontair's reasoning. Aren't our lives more important to him? "Don't look at me like that. I took a vow that I won't leave anyone behind."
"As you wish. But we really should invest in barriers," I suggest. Giv hums.
"Those barriers will keep you in place as well. Maybe a holy barrier, around the entire town? Something that can be removed, when the time comes for us to leave?" I don't like the idea that I won't have a way out, but I like the idea of Giv becoming Sorix's even less.
"Where are we going to get the barrier stones from? Can you make them?" I ask him. He shakes his head.
"There is a runesmith in the town. We can ask him for the barrier stones," well, a runesmith would really be useful right now. Yet, something doesn't let me just go along with the idea.
"If there is a runesmith in here, how come he hasn't done anything against Sorix?" I ask. Givontair shrugs.
"I have no idea, but we can find out together. Perhaps, Sorix just caught them unprepared?" That sounds likely.
Yet, I can't help but feel that the runesmith might be working for Sorix. Or, at the very least, is too afraid to go up against the Dread Lord. At any rate, we must find Norrix as well. There is no telling, if Sorix left, or if he is still lingering in the town.
