Chapter 4: Part 4 – Gone

Fang Zexi

“That went well….? I guess.” I say with uncertainty as I follow Mu Li Wen into his study, walking carefully. I was still struggling with the beautiful but excessive cyan robes the maids dressed me in today and these shoes. The clothes here are all so unique. 

Earlier during the morning court, Mu Li Wen introduced me to all his ministers. Surprisingly, all of them look pleased. I was hoping to meet with more resistance or even plotting. I thought they would be very traditional and unhappy if their King is with a man. Furthermore, a man who is out of this world. 

However, all of them kept smiling at me. Even when Mu Li Wen told them I was not from this world. Hence, I look different with my short hair. 

“My ministers are all loyal and some of them see me as a son. They know my preference. Most of them are happy I have taken their daughters as my concubines and provided heirs related to the royal family. ” Mu Li Wen explains as he sits down on the large chair behind his desk. 

“Mm, that’s good.” I guess I don’t really need to worry much about any scheming. 

Mu Li Wen lets out a sigh at the tall pile of documents on his desk. “It may take awhile to go through these..” He glances at me. I know what he means. He won’t be able to accompany me today.

I feel disappointed but I know my position. He is an Emperor and I am just a person who appeared out of the blue and slept with him to keep my life. I should not be a burden to him and his work. 

“Mm, it is alright.” I put on a bright smile so as to not worry him. “I can go back to the room and wait.” 

Mu Li Wen stares at me with a scrutinizing expression. Then he sighs again and is about to say something when a loud squeal cuts through the air.

My eyes grow wide and I turn to see a woman rushing towards me. The woman stops before me and I recognize her right away. She is the beautiful lady who was sitting beside the Emperor when I appeared. The Empress! 

She grabs my arms right away and looks at me excitedly. “I have been wanting to see you! I wanted to go over yesterday but Xiao Wen said I was not allowed to.” 

“Hello…” I greeted her awkwardly. 

I am not sure what she really thinks of me although Mu Li Wen told me she would be friendly. And she calls him Xiao Wen…? Their relationship is really close… Hearing her call Mu Li Wen, makes my heart feel a little twisted. They are husband and wife... Shit, am I jealous? After sleeping with him for one night, hearing him moaning sweetly beneath me and being crowned King Consort, I allowed it to get to my head. Damn it.

Someone clears their throat and I am a little startled when Mu Li Wen appears right beside me. He wraps an arm around mine and tug me back slightly, making the Empress lose her grip. “Don’t touch him. He belongs to me.” 

Mu Li We’s expression is a little dark. My eyes grow wide. He is jealous?! 

The Empress doesn’t look offended at all. Instead, she chuckles and crosses her arms. “Oh fine, I won’t touch him. You are Fang Zexi right? My name is Qing Yue. You can call me Xiao Yue or Yueyue.” The Empress smiles brightly at me. 

“Don’t call her that.” Mu Li Wen scowls. “It is too intimate…”

“But she calls you Xiao Wen…” I blurt out, causing Qing Yue to laugh while Mu Li Wen raises a brow. 

Then, Mu Li Wen purses his lips. He says to Qing Yue. “From now on, you will call me Li Wen. Only he can call me Xiao Wen.” !!!! Is he serious? 

Qing Yue simply looks delighted. “Oh well. I should know he is more special. After all, based on what I heard last night… He is the only one who has dared to-”

“Shut up!” Mu Li Wen’s face turns red as he scowls at the Empress. “You’re a lady. Don’t be so crude!” 

Suddenly… understanding hits me. These two… aren’t like husband and wife at all. They are like two small children, or even siblings who bicker. I don’t have to be jealous of them at all. 

Qing Yue giggles. “Fine. Zexi, you can call me Ah-Yue then. Anyway, other than wanting to meet you, I was hoping to bring you out to play. I guessed that Li Wen would be too busy to entertain you.” 

“Uh…” I glance at Mu Li Wen. It would be good to have company and Qing Yue seems very nice and genuine. 

“Go ahead.” Mu Li Wen nods. “Yue will take good care of you. You can bring him around the Palace grounds. Protect him.” He tells Qing Yue firmly. I wanted to say that I am not some feeble maiden that needs protecting but I understand Mu Li Wen’s attention. I am from a different world and unfamiliar with everything here. He is worried I would get bullied. 

“Of course! Don’t worry, I won’t let those jealous bitches touch him.” She snorts in a very unladylike manner. “Besides, I am sure your secret guards will watch him and I will bring my bodyguards along too.”

“Mm.” Mu Li Wen looks satisfied at her words. “Wait outside. I have something to say to him.” 

Qing Yue nods and exits with a skip. Mu Li Wen nods at the guards at the door and they close the door to the study. 

“I apologise for Yue. She can be very lively.” Mu Li Wen tells me once the doors are closed.

“She seems nice and friendly, like you said.” I smile. 

Mu Li Wen explains it to me. “She has known all along I prefer men. And she has always been waiting for me to find one I like. She will treat you like her own brother too and help me take care of you.” 

I am glad to hear that. Other than Mu Li Wen, it would be good to have a friend in this strange place. 

“Come back here to have the noon meal with me.” Mu Li Wen says to me. I guess that means lunch in his world.

I nod. “You.. focus on your work. ” I say lightly, realizing I sound like some spouse. Then it hits me that I am his spouse now. Fuck! That thought does not scare me at all, unlike yesterday. Not after I have fucked this guy into the mattress and in my sleep this morning. Damn, sex really mellows someone out. Especially incredible sex

So, I decide to go along with it and I lean in to press a peck to Mu Li Wen’s soft lips. His eyes widen slightly. I smile. “I will see you later, Xiao Wen.” 

I am about to step away when I feel arms wrapping around my waist. Xiao Wen pulls me back to him and presses his lips to mine. I lose it and kiss him back deeply, sliding my tongue into his sweet mouth. 

We kiss until we are both breathless and I pull back reluctantly. “I should go. Ah-Yue is waiting.” 

“Mm, and I have plenty of documents to look through.” Xiao Wen says breathlessly. 

We stare into each other’s eyes. Fuck this. “Ah Yue can wait a little more.” 

“So can the documents.” 

With that, our lips meet again.

Mu Li Wen

I am panting slightly as I lay my head on Zexi’s broad chest. I am completely exhausted after our second round of sex. I glance down and am not surprised to see that Zexi is still slightly hard. After being with him in bed for two months, I know that Zexi has an impressive stamina. He can go all night long sometimes, with short breaks in between. I stroke his chest leisurely and I feel Zexi kissing my head affectionately. 

Yes, time flies and it has been two months since Zexi appeared in my life. These two months have been the happiest I have ever been in my life. Since I was Emperor, I have been burdened with power and responsibilities. I have been working since forever and focusing on my country. I was barely happy. I love my country but I have never liked being Emperor. I didn’t have a choice because I am the only heir. With Zexi, I could be a little more carefree. 

It helps that Zexi spoils me like crazy. He would give me massages, and he learnt to cook so he could prepare my meals. He would accompany me for tours and he has gotten to know my people. When I first announced that I have a King Consort, they were skeptical. Gradually they all fell in love with him, happy with his kindness. 

Zexi has also gotten along really well with Qing Yue and my ministers, especially my Minister of Works and General. He provided them with drawings of weapons in his time which they have started to build, strengthening our military. Since he is so well protected, my concubines have also started to behave. 

With him, I feel like I am constantly in cloud nine. I know I have fallen for him and I am sure he has feelings for me too. We never say it out loud but our actions are enough to express our affection for each other.

I never want all these to end. 

However, I should know happiness would never last. 

Both of us fall asleep after a third round. And when I wake up in the morning, I am completely alone in bed. I looked around frantically but no one saw Zexi. It was like he vanished into thin air. Qing Yue rushed over to comfort me. I cried for days. I wasn’t alone. Everyone mourned the disappearance of Fang Zexi.
