Chapter 5: Part 5 – A Helping Hand

“Zexi! Oi Zexi!! Wake up!!” 

I feel someone shaking my body furiously. My eyes fly open and I yell in shock at the sight of Yinghao towering over me. He yelps and falls back on the floor when I shove him away and sit up. I look around with wide eyes. 

My room. This is my room. 

I am back in my room. On my bed. I can’t believe I am back here. Not in Xiao Wen’s bed, with Xiao Wen in my arms. Xiao Wen! 

Why am I back here? Was it all a dream? But it can’t be… 

“Ow..” Yinghao stands up slowly and is rubbing his butt. “What the hell is wrong with you?” 

I turn to stare at my best friend in disbelief. “Why are you in my apartment?” 

Yinghao purses his lips. “You did not pick up your phone the past 2 days. I figured you were just gaming but today is Monday and you did not show up for work. Boss sent me to check on you, worrying that you are sick or something. I came and you were sleeping. Have you actually been sleeping all along? You have never done that before.” 

“Two days…?” I bite my lip. I was in that world for about two months. So there is a time difference, if it wasn’t a dream.

“Are you okay? You look really pale.” Yinghao looks at me worriedly. “Earlier you kept calling out for Xiao Wen in your sleep. Who is Xiao Wen? I didn’t know you were dating a girl with that name.” 

I rub my face in frustration. I still can’t wrap my head around it. Was it really all a dream? A vivid dream? But Xiao Wen was so real… especially when he was in my arms. 

“Zexi, are you okay?” I feel him sitting down beside me. “You’re starting to freak me out.” 

“I…” I drop my hands and take a deep breath. I can tell him. Yinghao would believe me. But I need to process it all first. “Let me take a shower first and then I will tell you.” 

Yinghao nods slowly. “Alright. We can talk later. I will run down and get you some food from the cafe.” 

“Thanks.” I say sincerely as my best friend stands up. After he leaves, I am about to stand up when I realize that I am completely naked underneath my blanket. Before transmigrating to Xiao Wen’s world, I never slept naked. After being with Xiao Wen, I always fall asleep without clothes because it would be after making love to Xiao Wen. 

Hope bubbles in my chest. It was not a dream?

4 days later

“Hey.” Yinghao taps my shoulder. “Some of us are going out for a drink. You want to join us?”

I don’t look up from my computer as I shake my head. “Go ahead.” 

Yinghao sighs. “I know you’re still down about it. I promised you I will do my best to research transmigration and how to help you get back to your Xiao Wen but you also promised me to get on with life for now. Everyone keeps asking me why you didn’t show up on Monday and why you keep moping since then. I can’t even explain it to Boss!” 

I told Yinghao everything. He listened and my best friend believed me. Like I said, Yinghao was a huge nerd about transmigration and stuff. He promised to help me find a way to get back to Xiao Wen. Yinghao also didn’t judge that I got together with a guy, especially since Yinghao swings both ways. In fact, he seems pleased that I have fallen in love.

Yes, I am in love with Xiao Wen. And I didn’t get to tell him. It depresses me. I wanted to mope in bed but Yinghao told me I have to get on with life. Other people may not understand.

So on Tuesday, I forced myself to get back to work even though I am really missing Xiao Wen badly. I keep wondering how he is doing and if he is upset that I suddenly disappeared. I told myself to keep focus on work so that I don’t fall into depression. Other than working, I also spent the last few days researching about transmigration too. I googled Mu Li Wen and nothing came up. It seems Xiao Wen’s world is a completely different one.  

I stop typing and look at my best friend. “I am sorry. It’s still fresh and I really miss him.” 

Yinghao looks at me with sympathy. “I know, buddy. Why don’t you go drink with us tonight? Forget your problems. Tomorrow I will head to the library with you to do the research. Okay?”

I sigh and nod slowly. Maybe drinks would help.

4 months. It has been 4 months since my Zexi disappeared.

I miss him so much that I cry everyday. Qing Yue and her father, the Prime Minister, has helped to take over my responsibilities as Emperor because I am unable to find the strength to face everyone. How pathetic I am. 

I pour myself another cup of wine and drown it. I wonder where Zexi is now? Is he back in his own world? Does he miss me too? 

I should have told him I love him…

As I am pouring myself another cup, there is a soft knock on the doors. “Come in.” I order quietly. 

It is Mei, one of the servants who enters. “Your Majesty. We found some items that belonged to the King Consort. We thought you may...”

“Give it to me now!” I jump up and Mei rushes over. She is carrying some cloth in her hands. She hands it to me and I take it right away. “This is…”

“The robes that the King Consort was wearing when he first came here. We washed and kept it away. We were cleaning the room this morning and found it.” Mei explains gently. 

I hug the weird robes that belong to Zexi. I sit back down slowly. “Leave me.” I whisper tiredly. Mei didn’t need to be told twice. She hurriedly turns and leaves, closing the door behind her.

Tears roll down my cheek again as I stare at the robes. I would give anything to see Zexi again. 

“You really miss him, don’t you?” 

I jump up at the sudden voice and I turn my head to see a woman standing in my chambers! She is dressed weirdly. “Who are you!” I ask coldly. How did she get past my secret guards? I am about to yell for them when the lady says something that makes me stop.  

“Do you want to see Zexi again?” 

“You… how do you know who Zexi is?” I ask cautiously. 

The lady shrugs and crosses her arms. “Of course I know him. I know you too, Mu Li Wen.” 

I stare at her icily, my guard increasing. “Who are you?” 

The lady smiles and walks over to sit on one of my chairs. “You can just call me… Author.” 

“Author?” I stare at her in disbelief. 

She nods slowly. “Yeah. And I can reunite you and Zexi. Do you want that or not?”

“Can you really bring Zexi back to me?” Even though I might be crazy for trusting this stranger, if there is a chance I can get Zexi back… 

“It is the other way around. I can bring you to Zexi.” Author says. “But it also means you can’t come back to your life here anymore.” 

I stare at her blankly. “I have to give everything up? My country? My family?”

“Yes. But you will get to be with Zexi forever in his world. I will do all I can to make you settle there easily with him.” 

“I…” I have to give everything up for Zexi. Is it worth it? It hits me. Yes, it is. I have never liked being Emperor. The only person I regard as my family is Qing Yue and she has our children now. Zexi, he makes me happy. He makes me feel loved. 

“I will do it. I want to be back with Zexi.” I make up my mind. 

Author smiles at me happily. “Great, we can go now.” 

“Wait! I have to do one last thing.” I have to write a will, to protect Qing Yue. While my ministers may be loyal now, I don’t want anything to happen to her. 

“Alright, I will give you a few minutes.” Author says. “But hurry, Zexi is waiting for you too.”
