Chapter 8: Part 8 – Smitten

I glance at Zexi who seems a little tense since the moment we entered. He is also holding my hand a little too tight. At first I was a little puzzled by the sudden change in his mood because all his friends are greeting him so happily. But as an Emperor, I have been trained to be perceptive and observant. Along with the fact that I know Zexi extremely well now, I figured it out right away. My gaze moves to the girl that Zexi last glanced at and the girl’s gaze is also lingering on Zexi blatantly.

Piecing it all together, I know she must be one of his ex-bed partners. She is extremely beautiful, I won’t deny it. That is why I feel a surge of jealousy the moment I figure it out, making me tense too. I have really asked about Zexi’s past even when I made him my King Consort. I only know that I am his first male partner and Zexi has always been what Yinghao taught me, “straight”. I have been so blissful with Zexi that I have never really thought about a possibility - what if Zexi misses being with a woman one day? 

A man and a woman are very different. A woman is softer, curvier and more gentle. As much as I have tried to be a “wife” to Zexi, I could never fill a womanly role. I have the pride of a male too. As my fear starts increasing, a voice breaks through my thoughts. 

“Why the hell are you two still standing? Hurry and sit down. The food is coming.” It is Yinghao. 

Zexi nods and tugs me gently to the empty chairs. He makes me sit beside Yinghao while he sits beside another friend of his who greets him brightly.

“So…Yinghao did say you would be bringing a guest. Are you going to introduce us, Zexi?” A chubby looking man who is sitting beside Zexi’s ex smiles at me, making all eyes turn to me. Right, Zexi and I walked in holding hands but he has yet to introduce me. 

“This is Mu Li Wen.” Zexi answers. “He is my boyfriend.” He adds with a smile. 

Happiness suppresses some of the fear within me as Zexi introduces me without hesitation. He is proud of me. His introduction does cause all of his friends to look surprised, especially his ex. 

The chubby looking friend chuckles to break the awkwardness. “Oh, well congratulations! It’s nice to see Zexi settling down. He used to be only focused on his studies! Hi Xiao Wen, my name is Pang Jie. You can just call me Xiao Pang.” 

Following Xiao Pang, everyone exchanges small greetings with me. Zexi’s ex gives me a short smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. I purse my lips slightly. Soon, the waiters serve the food and everyone’s attention shifts. Zexi gets pulled into a conversation with the friend beside him about his work and he politely obliges.

“Are you alright?” Yinghao leans in and whispers to me. 

“Mmm.” I give a perfunctory nod. 

“Here, eat more. The food here is really good.” Zexi pulls away from his friend to help me scoop some food. Despite my jealousy and worries, I am pleased at his attentiveness to me. Well, screw his ex. I am his boyfriend now. And Zexi loves me. He chose to be with me instead of a woman. I should trust him.

“Thank you.” I say lightly and Zexi reaches out to squeeze my hand. I glance to see his ex’s face tighten visibly. It does not take a scholar to know what she is thinking. I decided to ignore her to save myself some grief. Plus, Zexi has barely acknowledged her. 

After the last course, Xiao Pang starts ordering snacks and wine. Some people, including Yinghao, start singing at the karaoke machine while some are playing at the pool table. Zexi explained to me both activities while I watched with amusement. Zexi starts catching up with Xiao Pang about their work and lives. Xiao Pang spoke to me and I like his friendly attitude. However, I am content to sit beside Zexi and listen intently to their conversation while sipping red wine that I have come to love. When I finish my second glass, I feel the urge to pee. 

“I am going to the washroom.” I tell Zexi quietly. 

“I will accompany you.” Zexi offers right away, stopping his conversation with Xiao Pang but I shake my head. 

“Catch up with your friend. The washroom is just next door. I will be quick.” I reassure him. 

Zexi nods. “Hurry back.” 

As I walk away, I hear Xiao Pang asking, “Never thought I would see you with a guy but you are absolutely smitten, aren’t you?”

“I am fucking in love with him.” Zexi’s answer has my heart melting and my mouth grinning widely.

As I exit the washroom and make a turn at the hallway, I bump into someone. “I am sorry-”

My words stop as I look up to see that it is Zexi’s ex. I immediately straighten my posture and since I am a little taller than her, I look down to give her an impassive expression. 

“Hey.” She gives me a smile, which immediately reminds me of the fake smiles my concubines used to give. Disgusting. 

“Hi. Will you excuse me?” She is blocking my path to go back to the room. However, she doesn’t move. Instead, she continues smiling. 

“Mu Li Wen, right? I am Xiao Qi.” 

“Yes.” I really do not want to waste my time talking to this woman so I decided to be direct. “What do you want, Xiao Qi?”

Xiao Qi’s smile fades and it turns to a little haughty expression. “I am really surprised that Fang Zexi turned bent. I mean, just a few months ago, he was fucking me hard into a mattress. I guess you’re the reason why he stopped texting me.” 

At her words, I stiffen. A few months ago? Before he came to my world and met him. I shouldn’t feel jealous because it is his past but I have to admit it is so damn hard. 

Before I can reply her, someone calls out my name. “Xiao Wen.” 

I look past her to see Zexi striding towards us with an unhappy expression. He pushes past Xiao Qi and moves to stand before me. “Are you ok?” 

I am about to nod when Xiao Qi interjects. “Zexi…” 

To both our surprises, Zexi cuts her off in an icy tone as he turns to glare at her. “I heard what you said to my boyfriend. Listen, you and I are in the past. And we were not serious, you know that. You are not important to me, that is why I stopped contacting you too. Don’t ever harass my boyfriend again.” 

Xiao Qi looks like she has just been slapped in the face. I am equally shocked as Zexi grabs my hand and pulls me away from her. He leads me right to the lift. “Where are we going?”

“A room above.” Zexi replies shortly, pressing the up button. 

“Room?” I am completely confused. 

“Hotel room. Xiao Pang gave it to me. It came as a package with the restaurant booking. Xiao Pang was supposed to take it but he just got a call to work tomorrow. He says we can have it. As a gift.” Zexi tugs me into the lift. The moment the doors shut, he presses me against one of the walls, covering me with his large body. My eyes grew wide at his fierce expression. Zexi has never shown me such an expression before. 

“She means nothing to me. Absolutely nothing. I love you and only you. And I know what you were thinking… I don’t miss being with a woman, and I will never because you are everything I need, physically and emotionally.” Zexi says quietly. 

His words slays all my fears in an instant. He loves me. Zexi truly loves me. 

“I love you and you’re my everything too.” I whisper back. And I need to show him. Without hesitation, I wrap my arms around his neck and press my lips against his.
