<Plant growth>

What occupation do most people think of when they think of plants?

Farming, gardening or Medicinal jobs.

Nothing to do with knights.

When Rowan found out what his blessing was, he was so shocked that he locked himself in his room for one whole day.

Most people would be excited to receive their blessing.

Rowan was not one of them.

Receiving the blessing had shocked him into silence.

He had gone home quietly with his family. His family saw how upset he was, and had left him alone.

The tenth birthday was supposed to be a happy event where a major celebration occurred. For Rowan it had felt anything but.

Rowan had woken up early and started practicing by swinging a wooden sword in the courtyard.

His father had devised the training method for Rowan from a young age and left it to Rowan to accomplish the plan.

If Rowan was unable to accomplish the training, then he would never be able to become a knight. His father would only periodically show up to review Rowan’s rate of progress and adjust the training as deemed necessary.

Besides, Rowan had the best teachers around him, the kingdom knights that his father commanded. All he needed to do was ask them if he had any questions or problems.

Fortunately Rowan hadn’t failed him and persisted in training.

The training consisted of building up stamina and shoring up his body foundations, nothing that would strain the body of young Rowan.

Rowan had thought about it all night and decided that if his blessing did not help him become a knight, then he wouldn’t need it.

One could say many things about Rowan Oak, but a quitter was not one of them.

Rowan kept swinging his practice sword, each swing stronger than the last, as if he wanted to slash away all the disappointment that had come with the blessing.

Rowan knew he was no genius or expert, His swordsmanship was subpar at most and there was nothing special about him.

He had seen the difference between a blessing and those without.

A fisherman with a blessing of fishing could fish ten fish within the span of an hour, while a fisherman without the blessing and with the same tools, would only be able to fish up one fish within the same time.

And that was if both fishermen were beginners. A blessed and experienced fisherman would be able to fish up to triple the amount of the beginner blessed fisherman.

There was a stark difference between those who had been blessed and those who had not.

A difference large enough that it would even determine a future occupation.

Therefore in order to reach even the feet of the blessed ones, Rowan would have to put ten times the effort, if not more.

Rowan knew it would not be easy.

But it would be worth it in the end if he became a knight in the end.

His dad was a man of few words, but Rowan remembered the lessons he taught him.

A knight does not need many qualities, but presserverence and integrity are the first and foremost qualities of a knight.

He took those words to heart and made a vow that he would become a knight no matter what.

After swinging his sword for some time, he moved on to train his body by running in the courtyard.

At some point, his father came to see him.

Knight Commander Sycamore Oak was a tall and stoic man. There were few people who could match his height, and his muscles were larger than melons.

He merely watched his son strenuously train himself. it wasn’t until Rowan had nearly finished that he spoke.

“Wash up and eat something quick. We’re going to meet the king.”

Those words stopped Rowan from pushing himself any further and he went to the baths to wash up.

When he passed his father, Sycamore Oak spoke up. “I do not know what blessing the Gods gave you, but it does not matter. You are my son and you will accomplish whatever you set your mind to.”

A child doesn’t know it, but a parent knows the words a child needs to hear.

The Words warmed Rowan’s heart. There was no change in Rowan’s expression, but  his steps were lighter and quicker than before.
