Chapter 176: 176 – Someone Is Jealous!

The banquet finally began, and the planned dramatic entrance of the two little dragons went off without a hitch.
Within a matter of seconds, Alya had won the hearts of every single person attending the banquet – well, almost everyone. Some people were dying of envy, actually.
King Orion of the Amber Kingdom, for example, was one of the people who fell in the latter category. He looked at Crown Prince Jules of the Emerald Kingdom and Princess Mana of the Emerald Kingdom sitting ahead, up at the centre table with Queen Carolina of the Sapphire Kingdom and King Jaren of the Emerald Kingdom and the two beautiful little dragons, and then he looked at his own son, Crown Prince Mars of the Amber Kingdom – who was still acting like a besotted fool with the third royal child of the Emerald Kingdom – Princess Astra.
And King Orion wondered to himself for the hundredth time why his stupid son couldn't have managed to gain the affection of the other princess of the Emerald Kingdom – or, even the crown prince – who cared about their gender as long as they could get a dragon child along with the partner?!
Princess Astra of the Emerald Kingdom met the eyes of her father in law, who seemed to be suddenly quite dissatisfied with her. She was quite taken aback by the sudden coldness in his eyes, especially since he had always been nice to her and quite in favour of her alliance with his precious son Mars. But then, at that time, Mana was a sickly kid about to die, and Jules wasn't even in the picture, and Astra's mother Sora held all the cards. Princess Astra knew very well that her mother's scheme and her marriage with her father was carried out with the help of King Orion and her grandfather's brother in the Amber Kingdom. Without these people, Princess Astra wouldn't even have been born, and from the time little Astra had been born, her mother Sora had brought her up with the idea that she would be marrying the Crown Prince Mars of the Amber Kingdom when she grew up. And besides, Crown Prince Mars of the Amber Kingdom and Princess Astra of the Emerald Kingdom really liked each other – and when Crown Prince Mars had been straying recently, thanks to the clandestine help from Mana and Raven who had somehow managed to get hold of a love potion from the famous poison expert Naver, Princess Astra was able to grab the attention and affection of Crown Prince Mars once again, and she was very satisfied with this. And because of this incident (and the fact that Mars had eyes for no one except Astra these days thanks to the extremely effective love potion) – Princess Astra had been quite satisfied with her life, and had not gone looking to create trouble for Mana and the others. In fact, she had even developed a small amount of goodwill for Mana and Raven and how they hadn't succumbed to the attentions of the great (in Astra's eyes anyway) Crown Prince Mars, and instead, wanted to stick with each other. Hmph! What did those two little kids know?
But now, looking at the dissatisfaction in the eyes of her father in law King Orion when he glanced at her, and then his envious look when he saw Mana and Jules, and the blatantly covetous glances that he cast at the two little dragons, the little amount of goodwill that Princess Astra had managed to develop for Mana and Raven disappeared immediately. She could clearly see from King Orion's face that he, too, wanted a dragon – and he was thinking that both of the other children of King Jaren have already managed to get a baby dragon of their own somehow – and Astra was the only one left behind. And Astra could clearly see that King Orion was currently wishing that Mars had been engaged with either Mana or Jules instead of her! As long as there was only one dragon, Astra could still have claimed that the little dragon had something about the mysterious people of the Obsidian Kingdom who were immensely disliked by the people of the Amber Kingdom – and that it was Prince Raven of the Obsidian Kingdom who somehow managed to get the dragon, and not Princess Mana of the Emerald Kingdom. However, now, with the arrival of the second baby dragon that was even prettier than the first one and was sweetly calling Crown Prince Jules of the Emerald Kingdom as 'Dad' and Crown Princess Bella of the Sapphire Kingdom as 'Mama' – it was clear that the dragons were attracted to the blood line of the Emerald Kingdom and not the Obsidian Kingdom! Two of the dragon parents were from the Emerald Kingdom, after all, and it would be too much of a stretch to claim that both the people of the Obsidian Kingdom and the Sapphire Kingdom had connections with dragons – even if Astra could cook up a credible story – no one would believe her. There was absolutely no connection between the Sapphire Kingdom and the Obsidian Kingdom, after all. If the dragon baby was somehow linked to the Pearl Kingdom, Astra would have squarely put it on Raven's shoulders and claimed that it was his special lineage of mixed noble blood of the Obsidian Kingdom and the Pearl Kingdom that had attracted the dragons to him somehow – but here, she had no way to even say that. Not to mention that the new little dragon wasn't even claiming Mana and Raven to be her parents – she had chosen Jules and Bella!

Envy pooled in Princess Astra's heart. She wanted a baby dragon, too. While she really didn't like reptilian creatures – and the baby dragon Azar had caused her enough grief already and she absolutely detested him – even Princess Astra couldn't resist the sweet and sparkly look of the new little white dragon, Alya, who had just been introduced to the world as the Royal Dragon Princess Alya of the Sapphire Kingdom as well as the Royal Dragon Princess Alya of the Emerald Kingdom. The sheer smugness on the faces of the people from the Sapphire Kingdom and the Emerald Kingdom was unbearable to the people from the Amber Kingdom! The Obsidian Kingdom still had little Azar, whom King Corvus had officially recognised as his royal dragon great grand child, and Azar had already been given the title of the Royal Dragon Prince Azar of the Obsidian Kingdom, in addition to him being the Royal Dragon Prince Azar of the Emerald Kingdom.
And given how Head Sage Yue was flattering his previously estranged son Prince Raven and desperately trying to get into his good books, there was a chance that the Pearl Kingdom would be all over Prince Raven and try to claim him as their own and in turn, somehow manage to connect the little black dragon and give him some sort of a title in the Pearl Kingdom as well. Thankfully, no such thing had happened so far – and Raven seemed to be closer to his step father General Aquila of the Obsidian Kingdom and his father in law King Jaren of the Emerald Kingdom more than his biological father Head Sage Yue of the Pearl Kingdom.
But none of this was of any use to Princess Astra at the moment – she knew that before the love potion was successfully administered to her fiancé Crown Prince Mars, he had been eyeing both Princess Mana and Prince Raven – despite the known bias in the Amber Kingdom on couples of the same gender. Well, Astra had to admit that Raven was quite easy on the eyes. He had been a little thin and weak looking when she had seen him for the first time – but he was in the process of growing up rather beautifully.
And now she could see that her father in law King Orion was also looking at both Princess Mana and Prince Jules – and it looked like he was going to be perfectly fine with either of the two half siblings of Astra!
And this annoyed Astra to no end.. All these years, she had worked so much and done so many nefarious things secretly under her mother's guidance and the aegis of her great uncle in the Amber Kingdom – who was the younger brother of her maternal grandfather. Astra had really worked hard for their sake, and for the sake of expanding the power of the Amber Kingdom, on the premise that they would treat her well when she ascended to the throne of the Emerald Kingdom – but now that her half brother Jules had appeared and taken over the role of the Crown Prince, and even Mana, who had always been useless and sickly, had somehow been cured and was rushing about and showing off her prowess everywhere – and the underdog and formerly abandoned Prince Raven of the Obsidian Kingdom and the previously socially dysfunctional Crown Princess Bella of the Sapphire Kingdom had joined hands with them!
