Mana's headache intensified as she tried desperately to read the book in her head – but despite her best efforts, she was unable to read anything at all. The pages fluttered by at an impossibly fast pace, and all she could catch were glimpses of random (and yet familiar) words.
Something big was about to happen, Mana knew. So many pages of this version of 'The Legend of Mars' had never opened up in her head at the same time. This was the version that had been given to her by the spirit of the ancient master who had given his inheritance to Raven back then in the cave they had found, thanks to Fox's parents…
And this version was the correct one, according to the ancient master – and the version that Mana was familiar with – the one that was popular in her original world – that was a wrong representation of what had actually happened.
And now that Mana had gotten to know the real people involved in 'The Legend of Mars' – she had to admit that the ancient master was right. The book that Mana had read while growing up – that was definitely not the truth. However, she could easily imagine how that wrong story could have been manufactured and made popular as the truth if Mars and Astra had indeed become the persons in charge.
But now, thanks to Mana's arrival in this world, a lot of things had already changed. Raven was no longer the abandoned, abused child facing humiliation on a daily basis. Jules had actually survived and return to his rightful place in the imperial palace of the Emerald Kingdom and taken up his birth right as the Crown Prince of the Emerald Kingdom. Mana, who was supposed to have died in that drowning assassination attempt last year – was still alive and Raven had not only cured her, but the completion of her soul had made her rather capable. Bella had come out of her shell and blossomed so beautifully into the Crown Princess of the Sapphire Kingdom and had even found the love of her life in Crown Prince Jules of the Emerald Kingdom!
So, didn't that mean that the course of the future had already changed? Fox and Vanilla, who had never been mentioned in the original (supposed wrong) book – had become so important. General Aquila, who had never been found in the original book which Mana knew of – surely he was a powerful ally for Raven? And now, even Queen Dora was back…! Similarly, Queen Carolina, who was barely even mentioned in the story, had become a staunch ally of theirs. And even Head Sage Yue – who had never reconciled with Raven in the story Mana knew of – was now trying to mend his relationship with Raven and the people of the Pearl Kingdom had already developed a certain amount of goodwill towards the previously despised Prince Raven.
And their two adorable little baby dragons – were they not the heaven defying blessings that would practically guarantee that things would be all right this time around?
Because there was no way that Mana would permit King Jaren to die young – and definitely not like it had happened in the original book – which was by Raven's hand. But then, the original book was wrong anyway, and Mana knew that Raven was actually one of the biggest protectors of King Jaren in this world now.
But then again – how many things were variable and permitted to be changed, and how many things were set in stone and had to happen, despite their efforts to the contrary? Mana wasn't sure. Could it be that nothing was set in stone and they could change everything? Or was it that certain key events were fixed in time and were sacrosanct? Mana didn't know, and she didn't know how to find out, either.
But one thing she was very sure of – and this confirmation grew stronger and stronger the more she saw of the supposedly correct book given to her by the ancient master – that even in the original time line, even without Mana's transmigration (or soul convergence or whatever fancy magical term she chose to call her coming to this world) – there were a lot of things which were absolute rubbish, and clearly made up by people in power. And this meant that Mars and Astra would gain power sooner or later – but then, why had they been allowed a chance to change the very fabric of time? In this world, as it currently was, the fame and glory of Crown Prince Jules of the Emerald Kingdom, Crown Princess Bella of the Sapphire Kingdom, Prince Raven of the Obsidian Kingdom and Princess Mana of the Emerald kingdom had already far surpassed any fame which Crown Prince Mars of the Amber Kingdom and Princess Astra of the Emerald Kingdom may have had.
And, unless all four of them were somehow eliminated – Mars and Astra would never gather the sort of fame that was claimed in the original book (which was supposed to be wrong anyway) in this world. And Mana's goal was to prevent that from happening. Jules and Bella had already changed from the original – surely they would continue to change more, now that they were together. The same was true for Mana and Raven as well.
The pages of the book finally stopped fluttering in Mana's head, and her head stopped spinning as well. Just as she was about to take a look at the new pages which had now opened up and check more of the corrected version of the original story, Raven's panicked voice reached her ears.
"Mana? Mana! Can you hear me?" Raven's voice was full of anxiety and Mana could imagine tears pooling in his beautiful rainbow eyes even without seeing him.
Mana put away the book reluctantly – now that it was open in her head, she could go back and read it any time she wanted – so that wouldn't be a problem. It was more important to calm Raven down at the moment – Mana could feel that Raven's magic was starting to become unstable.
Mana's eyelashes fluttered and she opened her eyes slowly.
Immediately, the magnified and tearful face of Raven came into focus in front of her eyes.
"What happened?" Mana asked, surprised to find that her own voice was hoarse, and that she was lying on a couch. "Weren't we having lunch…?"
"How could we have lunch when you fainted on us all of a sudden? Even Azar and Alya were too worried to be able to eat!" Jules spoke up from behind Raven's shoulder.
Jules looked rather worried as well.
"We've sent for Imperial Physician Kale," he said. "He will be here soon."
"How are you feeling now?" Raven asked in a whisper. "You were clutching your head before you fainted – I – I tired to check with my magic what was wrong with you, but I couldn't find anything wrong at all…"
Mana caressed Raven's face with gentle fingers. "Don't worry so much or you will ruin your pretty face and then everyone in the world will blame me for causing such a disaster," she murmured with a smile.
"Stop avoiding the question, Mana," Raven said tiredly. "Please – just tell me what happened to you – why did you faint? Was your head hurting? What exactly were you going through in your head? Your magic was stable and there were no signs of any physical distress – but even then, you still lost consciousness and you wouldn't wake up…" His voice faded away into a choked sob.
Mana felt terribly guilty. "I'll tell you later," she said softly, caressing his face. "It was about – well – related to, at least – stuff from before I came here…"
Raven was startled and grasped Mana's hand that was still on his cheek. "You are not allowed to leave me," he whispered. His face was very pale and his shoulders trembled.
Mana smiled slightly. "Of course I won't," she said quietly. "Do you think I could bear to leave you? I am very happy where I am right now, and I have no intentions of going anywhere." She lowered her voice. "I may have stumbled upon some clues about our enemies," she whispered, so that no one except Raven would be able to hear her – although it was unnecessary, since Jules had already moved back, and the only person close enough to Mana to be able to hear her and speak to her if she spoke softly was Raven. "I will discuss it with you later," Mana told him, caressing his fair cheeks again.
Raven stared at her fixedly for quite some time. "All right," he said finally. "But you have to listen to what Imperial Physician Kale says and you have to be careful and you have to…"
Mana chuckled.. "Yes, my darling," she said playfully. "I will listen to you and I will do whatever you say, all right? Now show me a beautiful smile and make me happy, will you? Pretty please?"
