Raven smiled tearfully at Mana.

Mana sighed and caressed his face with gentle fingers. "Don't worry, sweetie. I'm all right. I'll explain later, ok?" she said softly.

Raven had already understood from her words before that it was about something from the ancient master – but he didn't trust Mana when she said that she was all right. After all, if she had really been all right, would she have fainted suddenly like that at the lunch table? There was clearly something wrong and something had clearly happened – and this, taken together with what had happened in the sacred ancestral chamber of the Emerald Kingdom earlier, made Raven very worried.

"Imperial Physician Kale is here," King Jaren announced just then, and every one turned to look at the door.

Imperial Physician Kale hurried in – and then stopped short upon seeing Queen Dora.

Then he rubbed his eyes vigorously and looked again. Then he blinked rapidly, rubbed his eyes again, and looked at her yet again.

"Your Majesty," Imperial Physician Kale said, turning to King Jaren. "Am I seeing things or is there someone remarkably similar to Queen Dora next to you? So similar, in fact, that I can't find a difference at all?" he asked in a weak voice. The medical wing was quite far off, actually, and it was quite natural that the news of Queen Dora being alive and back in the imperial palace of the Emerald Kingdom had not been conveyed to the medical wing yet. So, Imperial Physician Kale didn't know – and it was not unusual that he felt that he was seeing things or hallucinating because of being overworked.

Because, in the absence of Junior Imperial Physician Vale who had been accompanying King Jaren and the other members of the royal family on their trip across the other four kingdoms for the engagement banquets of the three royal children of the Emerald Kingdom, Imperial Physician Kale had to handle pretty much everything by himself. And he could only blame himself, because he had been too worried about the royal family and had sent off his best assistants to travel along with Junior Imperial Physician Vale, and now he was stuck with the average or marginally competent ones – making his own life rather difficult. So, Imperial Physician Kale would not be too surprised if someone were to tell him just now that he was hallucinating because he had overworked himself into a stupor!

Fortunately for him, though, what he was seeing was indeed real, no matter how unbelievable and impossible it seemed to be!

King Jaren chuckled. "No, Imperial Physician Kale – you are not seeing things. Dora is indeed alive, and by the grace of the heavens, she is back with us now," he replied.

"Hello, Imperial Physician Kale," Queen Dora greeted him with a smile. "We will catch up soon enough, but could you take a look at our little Mana first? She suddenly fainted at the lunch table, and we don't know what is wrong with her, so could you examine her and let us know what could possibly be wrong?" she asked politely.

Imperial Physician Kale immediately narrowed his eyes and turned to look at Mana, and then strode over to the couch where she had been laid down earlier.

"What happened to you, Princess Mana?" Imperial Physician Kale demanded, sitting down next to Raven. "What are the symptoms?"

Mana shrugged carelessly.

"Her head hurt and then she fainted," Raven said. "I tried a diagnostic spell, but there seemed to be nothing wrong – but then, she remained unconscious until now…"

Imperial Physician Kale shot Raven a glance full of approval and ran a detailed diagnostic spell on Mana.

When the spell was over, Imperial Physician Kale frowned deeply.

"What's wrong?" Raven asked anxiously.

"There seems to be nothing wrong, and Princess Mana's magic is stable as well," he murmured. "I have no idea why she fainted. There is nothing wrong with her body or with her magic at the moment."

"How is this possible?" King Jaren asked. "We all saw her clutching her head in pain and then she fainted – if there is nothing wrong – then, why would Mana suddenly suffer a headache that was powerful enough to make her faint?"

Imperial Physician Kale shrugged. "I will prescribe some vitamins and nourishing potions – but at the moment, there is nothing wrong with Princess Mana," he repeated. He turned to Mana. "What did you feel before you fainted?" he asked.

"I don't actually remember," Mana murmured, semi truthfully. "I just felt a sharp pain in my head, and that's all. After that I don't know what happened here until I woke up just now and was greeted with Raven's beautiful face full of tears."

Imperial Physician Kale stroked his long beard. "That is very strange," he murmured. He pondered silently for a few minutes, and ran a few more diagnostic magic spells on Mana.

"Were you able to find something?" Jules asked, his brow furrowed in concern.

Imperial Physician Kale shook his head slightly.

"Did you feel any fluctuation in your magic?" he asked after some time, looking straight at Mana.

Mana shook her head. "Not really," she replied.

"There was a very slight movement in her magic before she fainted," Raven said softly.

Mana was quite surprised. She hadn't felt any change in her magic at all. "There was?" she asked curiously.

Raven nodded. "It was not enough to raise any alarms – it was just a little increase in magic like what happens when you have a training session with Father Aqi," he told her.

Imperial Physician Kale ran yet another set of diagnostic spells on Mana, and when he was done, he shook his head again. "There really is nothing wrong with you," he murmured. "Why in the world did you faint all of a sudden?"

Seeing the worried faces all around her, Mana felt a twinge of guilt in her heart. She knew that there was nothing wrong with her and that she had fainted only because new pages of the supposedly corrected book given to her by the ancient master were opening up in her mind. But naturally, that was not something which could say out loud to everyone. After all, none of the people in this room knew that they were characters in a legend in the previous modern world that Mana had lived in before coming here.

Something suddenly occurred to Mana, just then. It would not be correct to say that none of the people in the room knew about 'The Legend of Mars' – would it? Because, in the other world, hadn't it been Mommy Dee who had read the book with Mana several times? Hadn't Mommy Dee been the one who had discussed the characters with Mana, and made her analyse all the characters, and to use her own judgement instead of taking things at face value? Wasn't that why Mana had not been as affected by pre conceived notions of who was the hero and who was the villain in the story? Otherwise, if she had been a normal reader of the original version of 'The Legend of Mars' that had been popular in the modern world where she had lived and grown up (or a part of her soul had) – she would have run away screaming when she found out the true identity of Raven back in the Verdant Hills, wouldn't she? She would have thought that Mars and Astra are really good people, too, and she would not have done most of the things she had done to protect Raven and the others, and she would not have wanted to go up against Astra and Mars, either.

Which meant that Queen Dora, if she remembered things from the other world, where a part of her soul had been looking after Mana as her aunt who she had fondly called 'Mommy Dee' – she knew about 'The Legend of Mars'! And not only did she know about the book, she was also the one who had made Mana think about the true nature of the characters in the book without blindly accepting whatever it was that the author was trying to portray as good or evil. It had been because of Mommy Dee that Mana had been able to look at things beyond their face value and to use her own head when coming across people instead of going by pre conceived notions of other people!

So, Mommy Dee – that is, Queen Dora – knew about 'The Legend of Mars'!

Mana was stunned at this realisation, and she couldn't help but glance at Queen Dora, who was regarding her with calm and steady eyes. When the gazes of the mother and daughter pair met, Queen Dora shook her head very slightly.

That was the final proof that Mana needed to know that Queen Dora was quite aware of what had happened in the modern world, and that there was more to 'The Legend of Mars' than met the eye, and that Mana's current ailment had something to do with the book.
