Mana and Raven looked at Bella curiously.

"What is that?" Raven asked her.

Bella turned to Jules. "Do you want to show them?" she asked.

Jules nodded happily and held out his palm. A flame and a piece of rock appeared on his palm at the same time, and then the two merged together in front of the astonished eyes of Mana and Raven! It looked like molten lava from a volcano!

"I want to try this!" Mana said immediately, and opened her palm. A flame and a piece of rock appeared on her palm as well, but they refused to merge no matter how she tried.

"Big Brother! It's not working!" Mana complained. "How did you do it?"

Jules chuckled and explained it to her. Mana listened carefully, and tried again, but unfortunately, the flame and the rock refused to merge in her hands. Raven listened carefully, too, but he didn't make any attempts to try it himself; he simply stood by and watched Mana with an indulgent smile on his face.

After her fifth failed attempt, Jules patted Mana's head gently and suggested, "Why don't you rest for a while?"

"But I want to make these merge like Big Brother!" Mana insisted.

Jules pinched her cheeks. "Don't be so impatient to move ahead," he said. "You have to maintain a calm frame of mind when you merge two elements together. If you are frustrated or agitated like this, it won't work, little Mana."

Mana pouted childishly and almost stamped her foot in frustration, barely managing to hold herself back from acting like a spoilt young brat.

But then, a part of Mana spoke up in her head, she really was a spoilt young brat, wasn't she? Look at how her family and her young fiancé indulged her whims and fancies.

"Raven, you try it," Mana said to her fiancé. "If you succeed, you'll have to teach me until I can also do it!"

"Yes, Mana," Raven said obediently, and held out his hand. A rock and a flame appeared above his palm, and then merged seamlessly with one another, just as smoothly as Jules had done it!

Mana clapped her hands in delight. "Wow!" she said happily. "Raven, you're the best!"

Jules and Bella, too, looked very impressed.

"Well done, Raven," Jules said, ruffling the boy's hair affectionately.

"Very impressive," Bella said.

"I just followed Big Brother's instructions," Raven said modestly.

"Don't put yourself down," Mana said in an annoyed voice. "If it was just a matter of following instructions, I would have been able to do it, too. Why is it so difficult for you to just accept that you are exceptionally talented?" she scolded.

Raven could only smile helplessly in response.

Jules and Bella watched the two younger children with amusement.

"All right, then," Bella said, clapping her hands and drawing their attention. "Who wants to try summoning more elements at the same time?"

Mana's eyes glowed excitedly. "Let's try all five!" she said eagerly and held out her palm.

In an instant, all five elements – earth, fire, wind, water and dark magic, appeared above her palm.

Jules whistled in admiration. "Amazing!" Well done, Mana!" he praised.

Mana grinned up at her big brother, her glowing eyes showing her happiness at the achievement. "But I still can't make them merge, Big Brother," she complained.

"I'm sure that you'll get it soon," Jules told her in an encouraging voice. "You have Raven to teach you, don't you?"

Mana nodded happily. "Yes, I'll learn from Raven!" she declared.

Raven's entire face glowed upon hearing that. He, too, held out his hand and summoned all five magical elements. Then he played around with them, sometimes mixing two, sometimes three, sometimes four, and in the end, all five.

Mana, Jules and Bella broke out into loud applause and cheers when Raven was done.

"Brilliant," Bella said. "Raven, you should really listen to Mana when she says that there is no one more talented than you in the entire world."

Raven nodded shyly.

Mana took Raven's hand and laced her fingers through his, looking like a cat that just ate an entire bowl of cream.

"So, Big Sister Bella, do you think that we were able to read the book because we have all five magical elements? Is it because the magical device requires all five elements to run that it is readable only to people who possess all five magical elements?" Mana asked.

Bella nodded. "Exactly so," she said. "No one had been able to see anything on that book except blank pages until now. You saw it just now, too, right? Jules wasn't able to read anything – it was all blank. But the moment you touched the book, the text in it showed up."

Mana and Raven nodded.

Jules frowned slightly. "What is the origin of this book, Bella? Was there someone in the Sapphire Kingdom who could use all five elements like Mana and Raven?" he asked quietly.

Bella shrugged. "To be honest, I don't know if there was someone like that," she said. "The book has been here forever. My imperial tutor told me that it was given to the first monarch of the Sapphire Kingdom by an ancient master. There are no records of anyone having been able to read it till date. But then again, until Raven turned up, no one knew that it was possible for a person to naturally possess all five magical elements. The maximum we knew was three – and these people would not have been able to read the book."

Jules tapped his chin thoughtfully. "I wonder who the ancient master was," he murmured. "It couldn't have been the one whose spirit passed on his legacy to Raven and a little bit to Mana – if he had been the author of this book, it would have been there in Raven's head already."

Raven nodded. "This book is not there, and the style is also very different from Ned's," he said.

Bella frowned. "It can't be that horrible old man we met earlier, could it?" she asked fearfully.

"Zed? Isn't he a necromancer?" Mana asked. The man had never featured in the version of 'The Legend of Mars' that she had read in the previous world (neither had Ned, for that matter) – and the new pages of the supposedly correct copy of 'The Legend of Mars' in her head were still not readable, so Mana had no choice but to wait patiently. But since these two never appeared in the old version, she had no idea who or what they were.

"What magic do necromancers use?" Jules asked with a frown. "I only felt that the magic was horrible and it sent shivers down my spine – but what element was it? I couldn't figure that out."

"It was a mix of all five magical elements," Raven said quietly. "Plus an additional element of soul force. That is what makes it very scary. I was able to sense it – he used parts of souls of other creatures and infused it with all five magical elements. I think I could learn to do it, too."

"No," Mana said immediately. "It is enough that you were able to figure it out already. You are so kind and gentle, I can't even imagine the emotional impact on you if you had to use the souls of others to power your magic."

Raven smiled wryly. "I wouldn't use the souls of people I like, Mana," he said quietly. "I would extract the souls of our enemies."

Mana sighed and shook her head. "No need," she said, caressing Raven's face. "You are perfect the way you are. Don't ruin it."

"I agree with Mana," Jules said, his voice gentle and firm at the same time. "We are not that desperate, Raven. Don't put yourself into unnecessary danger and trouble. You must remember that your well being is tied to Mana's as well. Besides, as Mana says, you are perfect just as you are – why should you want to change that?"

"And you have already found the solution to Ma's problem anyway," Bella pointed out. "We don't even need any element of necromancy now, do we?"

Raven nodded. "Yes, you are right," he said. "We don't need any element of necromancy any more. This magical device will take care of that part."

"Excellent," Jules said. "Then there is no need for you to get yourself into any danger, is there?" he asked.

Raven shook his head. "I don't go looking for danger," he said in a small voice. "Trouble usually comes to find me on its own." And he said this with a pout on his face, finally looking like a proper twelve year old, albeit a little petulant.

Mana, Jules and Bella looked at each other, surprised and delighted at the same time. Then all three of them burst out laughing and Mana pulled Raven into a hug.

"My dear Raven," she said, tears of laughter pouring down her face. "You are just too adorable sometimes!"
