Chapter 22: Chapter 20 – This dungeon’s level is too high (part 2)

Akira rested at the same spot. She shut down the light to save batteries. It was eerie silent, sometimes a rat rustled nearby.

Akira was thinking of the future demon encounters. The demons were strong but fortunately not smart, or at least this low leveled ones.

"I need to use my brain to beat them. It is the only way. I have no chance in a direct fight"

So Akira rested and waited for he mana to restore every 3 minutes the mana counter moved up.

In about hour and a half her mana passed 300 

[mana 306/360]

"Ok I am done waiting,  and I am thirsty but the water bottles are in the backpack"

Akira moved and opened the door, leaving it in a suitable position for the same stunt if needed, it was a viable tactics for demon grinding after all.

The time was 00:30 am Wednesday.. 5 days since she arrived in this corrupted version of Earth called Terra. 

Akira moved cautiously this time. Stopping every 20 steps to listen.

In about 10 minutes she smelled change of air and dimmed the light of the head torch. Slowly and as silently as possible she reached the end of the tunel. 

There was a dark abyss below and the torch light couldn't reach it. She dropped a small rock and could hear a faint pang shortly.

About 40-50 meters deep calculated Akira. She put the bag down and decided first to check the surroundings. With both lights on she managed to see another similar tunnel in about  40 m distance. It was on the same level as hers. She looked up and saw a concrete ceiling standing 3 meters up. After further examination she concluded that she is an ventilation shaft at the top of a huge 40-50 meters deep circular hall. And there was mirror shaft on the other side.

Akira pondered. 

If this shaft was guarded so should be the other one.

She focused her both her lights to examine the other shaft in the distance.

"There!" Akira whispered

Just as she estimated she saw a spider looking demon hanging from the ceiling on some kind of a cord. It was waiting in ambush to grab unsuspecting victim that could appear from the other tunnel.

She could not determine its size but it was at least 2 m tall.

 

The demon hadn't noticed her. It was either sleeping or not sensitive to light.

"Right, Akira use your brain and think of it"

She withdrew 10 meters back and entered in a deep thought. In about 10 minutes she sprang into action. She retreated further back closely examining the tunnel's surfaces. In about 60 meters she finally found a suitable spot. Akira took out from her backpack the climbing gear. A long sturdy rope and climbing cams

She put  the 6 cams in the concrete cracks and using their springs they were tightly secured on the surface. Then she used the rope to connect the opposing clams in some kind of a net. Akira checked the rope tension. The rope was heavy duty, top quality and was very durable. Then she went back to the door section and took several small pieces of the metal rods laying on the ground.

She went back to the impromptu trap and made few jumps in and out for practice. The bag was left at the corner 5 meters before the trap as a marker.

Akira checked the time 00:45 Am Wednesday

"Ok, time for action"

Akira counted the steps back to the end of the tunnel: 87

She stood up and took few breaths in and out. Then picked one piece of metal and threw it in beautiful arc.... and missed by a large margin.

"My worst throw of my 2 lives..... A deja view!" Akira

This time unlike the first one with the mantis the throw was too strong. The metal hit the opposite wall with a bag. The spider reacted and shook its legs. It looked around and spotted the light coming from Akira's head torch. 

"Screeech" 

"Here we go"  Akira said and patiently waited

The spider swiftly climbed on the ceiling and started to run towards Akira.

"Wait"

...

"wait!!"

"WAIT!"

NOW!!

"EXORCISE" 

When the distance reached 15 meters she cast the spell and bolted as fast as she could back  in the tunnel.

Akira counted the steps 87...43...34...

She could hear the spider cutting the distance behind fast.

23...15....5 m (bag)

Akira jumped with her head pointing forward through the gaps of the rope trap, made a front roll and jumped back to sprint. 

Screeech

Akira reached the metal door and slammed it shut...

spell timer 3...2...1

"Well done partner an "ambush spider demon" this time" Kornelius

"How many....pant... kind... pant pant of those fuckers are there"Akira

"Ohh,  just the insect types are thousand of variants, then there are the beast type and the undead and..."

"OK I got it too many" Akira

[+2400 SU, balance 5300 SU] [mana 120/360]

Akira took some time to collect her bearings and moved to the rope trap site. 2 of  the cams were pulled out along with some of concrete. 

"How strong are those motherfuckers" Akira shook her head

She sat down and drank some water. Then had several chocolate bars. 

She moved to the edge of the tunnel and sit down legs dangling in the abyss. The torch was turned off and Akira listened and waited...

 

Akira waited a for about an hour and a half

The time was 2:20AM

During the waiting she heard a skittering from the bottom of the hall and was sure there was something there.

"Only one way to find out, gotta check it out from up close" Akira

"Kornelius I need some climbing skill" Akira

"Alright, I will look for a suitable one. But  I need to remind you, it should be last skill for today unless you want your brains to fry.

"Really?" Akira

"Those skills especially the ones for physical activity ones need some tome to settle - about 2 weeks or shorter if you practice them daily"

"Understood"

"I have found 2 skill sets one called "Parkour" and the other one "wall climbing"

"Well both are suitable, but I think wall climbing is the best for the current situation" Akira

"I know wall climbing now!" Akira smiled

Akira collected her rope trap and moved back to the edge of the tunnel where she anchored 2 clams and fastened the rope and dropped it down.

After several deep breaths Akira was descending with her legs on the vertical wall, the rope around her waist and with a quick  short drops and pauses she descended like a SWAT member. She stopped about 10 meters from the ground. The smell here was horrible and the air not as good as one on the top. She wrinkled he nose in disgust and examined the surroundings.

"There!!!!"  In the  middle of the room there was a large 3 meters long centipede like demon

It was about 20 meters away and was going slowly towards her. Akira was still 10 meters up hanging on the rope and judging her options

When the centipede reached 15 meters spell distance it was already almost bellow her

"EXORCISE"

Akira waited not a second longe and started climbing back as fast as she could. The climbing skill made her motions like a fluid dance and soon she was back on top...

She prepared to run, but the monster screeches were still coming from the bottom and not approaching

"Could it be that this bugger can not climb?" Akira was pondering.

Suddenly she heard buzzing coming from the opposite side of the hall where was the mirror shaft.

Then a swisshhh....

"Aaargh" Akira looked at her stomach which was pierced with a large nail like stinger. She pulled it out and screamed in pain again

"aaargd mother fucker"

[Kornelius healed you for 10 HP  69/100]

The fast reaction of Kornelius made Akira to refocus and started running back with her hand holding the stomach wound.

She kept running few more stingers missed her

[Kornelius cast "Minor healing aura  +10HP/sec]

"Gaaagh" Akira screamed as another stinger hit her butt cheek

Akira pulled it out with another scream

Finally she arrived at the metal door and slammed it shut. 

Bang 

Akira finally turned around to see what she was dealing with, one hand holding her stomach and another one holding her butt.

The demon looked like a wasp, but was as large as a rabbit.

It could have easily passed through the metal bars, but luckily it hit one of the metal rods. It was now on the ground shaking its head. 

Akira made second fast judgement and took a 60 cm metal rod from the ground

[poison status removed HP 80/100]

Akira took a baseball position and Screamed

"Come here you little piece of shit"

The demon regain its focus and moved between the bars than opened its wings and lifted up.

"screech"

"come here you bastard"

The demon rushed at her with a fast speed, but Akira's reflexes were improved and she had experience with the baseball bat.

She swinged and hit the demon hard. It flew  and crashed at the wall, then fell on the ground with its 6 legs up. Akira didn't wait any second and moved with a massive swing she hit the wasp 

bang crack

screech

ban bang

Akira hit it at least 10 times until she lost her strength to the exhaustion.

panting Akira watched the demon was very much alive albeit its thin legs and wings were crippled. It was laying on the ground helplessly not able to move an inch.

"That is a tough mother fucker, I bet even the bullets can not break its exoskeleton."

"Thanks for the healing partner" Akira

"I had to purchase the "Minor healing aura" to remove the poison and it heals much better the the lesser holly light"

[ - 5000 SU "Minor healing aura" balance 200SU]

"That was called stone centipede demon"

[+2400 SU balance 2600SU]

So how much for the [Holly cleansing aura"]

"10 000 SU" Kornelius replied

"Even if I exorcise this wasp demon I will end with 5000 short, Damn"

I need to get some rest but first:

CONSUME

[swiftness +1]

Akira touched with a disgust the bug and cast the  spell

Akira looked at the demon bug, It looked like it wont be going anywhere. Hmm if i leave it here I can come back for more consume casts later.

"I won't be leaving until I get 10 000 SU" Akira

Akira went to her back pack took out some snacks and water and sat down waiting for her mana to regenerate....

At 4:00 AM her mana was full and she was rested as much as it was possible in a hostile environment

Time to go down again for more targets

Akira landed on the squishy floor on the bottom of the hall. It was covered with some biomass lightly  glowing green and pulsing.

"Blagh disgusting" Akira lifted her leg and some strips of green slime connected to the shoes.

Akira slowly walked around until she found a hole of 2 meters in one of the walls. She carefully entered into a small chamber 3x3 meters

"What the hell is this??" Akira

There were 3  large cocoon like things about 2,5 meters tall and 1 meter wide. They were pulsing slowly like breathing.

Identify

"Ohh what the hell lets try it anyway"

"EXORCISE"

The spell actually activated and in 30 seconds the thing vanished...

"What??"

"That is what I call easy money" Akira

"If it was a game this would have been the treasure reward area for clearing a dungeon" Akira giggled.

"I believe it is the Larvae in its stage of evolving."Kornelius

"Yeah I though so too, but it is still disgusting and smelly down here"Akira

So she climbed back to the tunnel shaft to wait for her mana to regenerate....

At  about 7 Am on Wednesday she exorcised the last one of the cocoons

"Finally!Hoorah! Well done Akira!!! You rock " Akira was cheering herself 

Kornelius was probably already sleeping. Akira didn't want to bother the guy any more if not necessary.

"I did a decent  run against much stronger enemies." Akira analysed her entire night and marking what was fine and what she could have done better

"All good, except that shot into my left butt cheek. That was humiliating and painful" Akira grimaced

Akira collected her stuff and entered the door area. She shut it and locked it back

Then she looked at the demon wasp who shot her in the butt and was still laying on the same place she left her several hours ago.

"You bastard don't deserve quick go with the exorcise. I should consume you until you have no more juice" Akira

[CONSUME]

[Vitality +1]

"You know you deserve to take you with me and use you for a snack all the way to home" Akira

"But of course....I am probably tired, How did I not think of it earlier"

Akira picked the rope and tied the wasp demon with many rounds so at the end it looked like a ball of yarn cord. Then she rolled the bug in a bundle using the raincoat and strapped it with ropes again. It looked like a package of sort at the end.

"bahaah, I will call it "take away food" method" said Akira and headed back following the chalk arrows she painted on the walls

She made sure to delete them to cover any traces of her infiltration

She arrived on top of her sewer system entry point at 8:30 AM

The sun was shining warm. Akira stretched, yawned, pulled out her pink sunglasses and hat. Okay time to go home..
