Next month and after a couple of meetings later, Sunny chose to hire F. Gary Gary instead of Rob Cohen because of the budget and his salary.

Rob Cohen has been acting as a studio vice-chairman as his last position and thus he wanted a big cut from box office profits which made Sunny throw his resume in the dustbin directly. F Gary Gary, even though young, had shot some good rap videos that involved car scenes on a very budget or simply no budget at all.

This guy was cheap, eager to shoot his first movie and had enough ideas that can match the script. Sunny hired him for this movie with a base salary of 800,000 dollars only. Compared to a salary of 6 Million and editing rights that Rob cohen wanted along with 5% box office profits, this was a huge bargain.

F. Gary Gary became the director and executive producer. For the lead producer, Sunny chose their own Gary. After all, with these two watching the scene, this movie could never go beyond the budget and Sunny knew the studio executive producers wanted to lead the studio project in-house.

Hence this was another bargain for Sunny.

However, now as the director and producers were finalised, Sunny and the team needed to finalise the actors and other important crew members.

"Old Gary (Producer), I want you to focus on assembling the crew. We can't cut the cost of finding a good cinematographer and cameraman. For actors, chose fresh faces. Remember, the core of the movie is not good acting but car racing.

Young Gary, sit with the script writing team and finalise the storyboard and chose the locations. I want to focus the major budget on shooting car crashes and not the beautiful landscape. " Sunny handed over the work to the two Garys and then got busy with Pokemon.

After almost two months, the animation department from Japan produced the first rough cut of the movie Pokemon - I Choose You!

Sunny had simply copied the movie from his memory and removed a lot of drama and made settings to suit the western public better. He had no interest in marketing his Pokemon for the game as of now.

He wants to release a good movie, then good TV shows and finally create a base to release a game for this. In this way, he will have a lot of leverage in selecting game companies as partners and he can find a better profit-sharing contract for his studio.

Sunny watched it along with the production team to get their views and the reviews were mixed. Most of them were not sure if this concept could become popular with the kids. Some were worried that kids might not even get it.

However, Sunny had to push it considering a long-term plan. Maybe a lot of the audience won't understand the movie as of now but after releasing the first season of the TV series, he can relaunch the movie to make more profit.

Sunny sent a few notes along with comments. Need cuter dubbing, soft voice actors and overall colours need to be more bright and cheerful. Plus, the editing needs to cut down on violence and avoid all blood scenes and the maximum fight can only be a debate.

Pokemon can only faint and they will heal inside Pokeballs or healing centres after a fight. No killing, no grave injury and Sunny pushed for a tight storyline.

This again took a month before the complete movie was again sent back and this time, even the executives felt it was much more presentable and acceptable for kids.

Sunny sent the movie for rating and got the PG-13 and after a discussion with theatre companies, they received multiple possible dates from May-August, the Summer period.

Finally, a date - Friday, June 5, 1992, was selected as the month of June was almost empty without any animation movie to compete with them.

Sunny had a rough couple of weeks and spent long working hours discussing marketing strategies and promotion activities with his team.

Disney was busy this year with Aladdin and they were competing with two other studios who were working on the same idea. Yes, in 1992, there were 3 Aladdin movies. They deeply underestimated the kids and their love for pets. Two weeks before the Film Premiere, Mascots and toys were distributed across various merchandise stores. Some of these were given for free with Pokebox but it was a lucky draw and only 1 could be won from a pool of 50 draws.

It was something that increased kids' enthusiasm and everyone wanted to own their pet pokemon. Parents were also happy as they also found a movie for their family and decided to watch the movie together.

However, Sunny forgot one of the most important group in the film screening and that came to haunt him.
