It was around noon of the following day, Blitz had taken yesterday off trying to gather more information of this unknown world. Unfortunately, most of the people he could only ask where the citizens who hadn’t left the city much during their lifetime.

His best bet was requesting Weill for another meeting or the Adventurer’s guild which had a ton of information about the nearby regions. Since the former was a busy businessman (somehow), who took pride in his business (Hopefully). Blitz decided to go for the latter― the Adventurer’s guild.

Upon entrance of the Adventurer’s Guild Branch, Blitz was immediately greeted by several stares of most of the adventurers present in the hall. The air was somewhat different from before, as most of the people who occupied the building were staring at him, and their stares directed only towards him.

What happened? Why do I feel like being stabbed?

He asked himself as he closed in on the receptionist's desk. Which was now manned by a different uniformed lady. She still possessed the same characteristics of the first one he met, but the air around her was different along with the glasses she wore.

"A quest." He bluntly asked, still feeling the stares of the several adventurers behind him.

“Please wait, Sir Blitz.”

“Alright then…”

He waited there for a number of minutes, the restless crowd of armed adventurers remained fixated towards him. Some left, some decided to do about their own business, but the majority remained vigilant of him.

Was there something I did wrong? If it was about the wolves, those little shits were only level 15. I only used 7 poison potions to knock most of them out to paralyze them, then knock them out with my fists.

Soon, the receptionist returned with a person, one who was seemingly of a high rank. His attire was to put it mildly, eye-catching. He wore an orange leather coat with a white vest underneath, along with some black slacks. On his chest was a pin with a symbol of a bird possessing a sword held by its beak and a shield by its legs.

“Good Afternoon, Sir Blitz,” The man presented his arm as he walked towards Blitz, “I’m the Branch Leader of the Trino Adventurer’s Guild. Elli, pleasure to meet you.”

The man, although possessing a clear but wrinkled face, defining his age. Gave off a somewhat sharp aura, something like a professional of a certain field.

“Blitz,” Blitz in turn, responded appropriately, a handshake, “I would like to ask, why is such a person of influence before me?”

“Let’s speak in my office.” The guild leader, named Elli, then glared towards the crowding adventurer’s keen on listening to their conversation, “We wouldn’t want to be the talk of the town.”

Being receptive, Blitz gave a slight nod, “Sure, it seems that the local Guild master wouldn’t call me if it wasn’t important.

The two then proceeded towards Elli’s office on the third floor. Observing the building, Blitz was able to identify the usage 3 floors of the guild building. The first was the main hall where registration and quest signing was done. The second floor was temporary lodging, for both staff and adventurers, the price was slightly higher than what Blitz was currently staying at. As for the third, it was mostly for management and finance. Filled to the brim with tables of earnestly working guild staffs, from writing documents to calculating budget and expenses.

“Good management, Yes?”

Suddenly, Elli spoke as the two journeyed through the three floors. He wasn’t looking at him nor showing any visible glares. Yet, somehow Blitz could feel as if something was watching him. He didn’t know if it was one of his passive abilities or just merely a feeling, but he could clearly notice and sense it.

“The building is good; each section is productive. That’s about all.”

“Thank you, Sir Blitz.” Elli took the compliment as kindly as he could, “Being a former adventurer whom travelled the known world. This type of environment doesn’t suit me but I’m practically all set for life.”

Upon reaching Elli’s office, Blitz was greeted by a very organized room. A window behind the desk of the Guild master to let light in. Organized bookshelves filled to the brim with countless books on the sides, and a perfect dose of relaxing atmosphere thanks to the few flowers present in the room.

“Make yourself at home.” Elli relieved Blitz of his stiffness, expecting him to be scared of such an encounter, “Don’t worry, this isn’t about reprimanding or anything, just a quick talk and possible request.”

“Request, huh?” heeding Elli’s words, Blitz sat down on a nearby couch, one that was right before the Guild master’s desk, “What kind of request.”

“Well,” Seated on his seat, Elli clasped both his hands atop his desk and calmly explained:

“The Adventurer’s Guild possesses ranks for its adventurers, to put it mildly, they’re like coins― The Copper, The Iron, The Silver, The Gold, The Platinum, the Obsidian, and the Adamantine. They correspond with the necessary ranks of quests, The Copper could only accept copper-ranked quests, doing trivial work like so― unless they’re a group of 3 or 4, then they could be given authorization to accept Iron-classed quests.”

Elli added, scratching his head, “However, you brought back around 28 bodies of pure dead black wolves. Some of which was still in perfect condition, albeit a few burns on the fur. The black wolf can be classified as an Upper-Iron to Lower-Silver quest, even then, killing one is hard enough as it is. Yet, a random adventurer who suddenly barges in, takes down 28― just for a test— He isn’t even registered!”

Blitz in response, replied with merely: “I followed the receptionist’s instruction. Bring back 3 beasts, and were all good to go for registration.”

“Yeah, that’s true,” Elli nodded, not opposing Blitz’s response, “But, the black wolf is too much for a newbie adventurer. Unless one is a false-ranker, which is a crime as per the Adventurer Guild’s regulation book.”

“So… Does that mean I’m being arrested?”

“No, no, no,” Elli waved both his hands, rejecting Blitz’s claim “We’ve already made background checks with the Regional Branch. A person of your status hadn’t been recorded, for all we know, you’ve practice and prepared hard for this line of work.”

“I see, That’s good then.”

“However, we don’t want to give talented Adventurers such low-rankings and rewards. It hurts our pride that we employ such individuals only to give them the short end of the stick.”

“So, in other words?”

“I’m giving you a promotional quest to Gold-Rank, the highest I can give to you. If you want to progress further to platinum, you must take up regional promotional quests. If you want to be Obsidian or Adamantine class, you must take up the National headquarters’ promotional quests.”

Blitz was shocked upon hearing such information. To think that such a large association like the Adventurer’s Guild was so organized, Blitz’s couldn’t believe his eyes. He was fascinated by how such big powers like the Adventurer’s guild was so successful with only medieval forms of communication and travel, albeit a few magic spells on the side.

From the movies I’ve watched, the normal travel time of a message varied on the terrain. How do they communicate so precisely? I would’ve thought that local branches held more power due to distance with the main office, but to think the main headquarter had their eyes and ears peeled at every section of the local branches.

“So… At best, I can only receive Gold-Rank?”

“I want to give you platinum, but that’d be breaking the Administrative rules of headquarters. I would most likely be arrested by the main office for abuse of power, corruption or the preferential treatment violation.”

Quite strict… I don’t think I’ve heard him say anything about being put into court— so no proper trial huh?

Thinking about the possibilities, and scaling the goods and bads of the request. Blitz found that it could be more advantageous in the long-run, however, the problem would be being idolized.

I don’t like too much attention, it gives me bad memories…

“Alright, tell me the quest.” Blitz said in a hesitant tone, “Depending on its difficulty, I might accept or decline it. However, promise me one thing if I was to accept and was able to complete the quest.”

“Alright, then. One favor isn’t a problem.”

“Good.”

Blitz and Elli soon started their long business conversation, as both sides were adamant in making sure they held the upper hand of the deal. Elli sought to present the hardest quest, for not only a good reward for Blitz, but also for himself. On the other hand, Blitz thought about the medium-ranged quests, it was eye-catching for many, but for the higher-ups, it would seem as though he was just a blooming adventurer.

The quests Elli presented were mostly monster extermination requests. Due to its classification of only Gold-ranking, and being only on the local level. Most of the quests were mostly relatively easy― in the eyes of Blitz.

The quests are all easy, I recognized some of the mobs but they’re mostly at beginner level. The best they have is the [Spiked Naga], around level 36 or 40 something. The problem would be on how they’d be perceived by the crowd once they’re dead.

Due to the difficulty presented by the quests to him. Blitz cared for only one thing, on how the people would respond. If killing 28 level-15 wolves using only 7 poison potions was enough for the local Adventurers to fear him. What’d happen if he was to defeat a locally feared monster that was barely around his level.

I hadn’t even gotten to use my staff or rifle yet…

The feeling of having possessed quite a lot of items, but barely using them was a blow to Blitz’s expectations. Apart from the [Spiked Naga], the remaining ones are monsters which he recognized to be no more than level 20 below in [Envisioned Fantasy].

“There’s around 4 possible monster extermination requests that has been hanging around since a long time. We have the [Spiked Naga], some [Dire Wolves], The fearsome [carcass-wringer], the elusive [Winged-Chariot].

Wait a minute… the names are recognizable; the appearances are also the same. Does that mean they’re still the same level with the same stats?

It was a necessary question, Blitz didn’t know most of the monsters in [Envisioned Fantasy] as he only memorized Boss-class monsters and very few of the lower-leveled monsters. Even though, he only knew a handful of the lower-leveled monsters, he was also somewhat blurry when it comes to their stats and skills.

I always nuke ‘em before they’d even get aggroed. Apart from bossesthey’re special. Maybe I should’ve tried and did some info gathering before in the wiki. But then again, I only farmed monsters when I needed to craft an Item or level up one of my NPC’s. Most die before I even get to see all of their cards.

“I have only one request,” Blitz said with still hesitance underneath his breath, “Would you like to hear it now?”

Elli shrugged, “Talk away, as long as it is within my reach.”

“Do achievements get listed?”

“Of course.”

“…if I kill all four, what can benefit me.”

Elli furrowed his eyebrows upon hearing such unbelievable confidence. Elli could clearly tell the hesitance in Blitz’s voice, yet for him to make such a bold claim. He was confused.

“The monetary reward and Promotion to Gold-Rank.” Elli added, “Being a Gold-Rank Adventurer will give you a form of prestige and reputation. If you go to another local guild branch, you’d be respected and given certain benefits well enough to be a noble.”

“Alright then.”

Blitz then took all four documents of the four beasts, but before leaving, he stared down Elli directly in his eyes. It was as if he was provoking him, but Elli knew that it was too abrupt to be provocation.

“I want it to fall under the name ‘Bakal’,” Blitz requested, “My Adventurer’s ID, rename it to Bakal.”

“You don’t want Blitz?”

“Think of it as a second identity. I don’t want my name, real name. To be heard being muttered across the known world.”

Elli nodded, forgery was possible given his term of authority. Taking into account that he can always hide this under rug, he was somewhat nonchalant when he accepted Blitz’s request.

“Alright, I can make you another ID of your second Identity. But I’d like to ask, what does ‘Bakal’ mean? Why such a random word for a name?”

“Metal. It’s metal for my country.”

Metal, alright, I only travelled within a handful of countries. So, I don’t know much about their culture, but I can understand you have respect for it. I’ll do it, if you do the requests, Equal value trade.”

Soon, Blitz left the room silently, leaving only a rather calm but shaken Elli. The knight named Blitz, he certainly wasn’t a problem to negotiate with, he was rather understanding and resolutely neutral. However, the fact that he requested for his name to be changed.

It’s suspicious, Elli thought, most adventurers are only in it for the fame, prestige and wealth… why does somebody like him reject those rewards? I don’t discriminate against foreigners and their beliefs, but I don’t have much of a good feel of success from him…

It’s like he has this aura of a monster around himBut who am I to judge?

Turning his chair around and facing his office’s only window, and entrance of light. Elli rested his back on his chair’s backrest, and immediately gave a sigh of victory.

“Blitz, Bakal, or whatever,” He rested his arms on both his chair’s armrest, “―An adventurer’s past is Mystery. An Adventurer’s tool is Pride. An Adventurer’s Abilities’ Life. An Adventurer’s Ambition is Death. The World is vast of Mysteries, show your Pride and life, let yourself Conquer Death.”

Show me if you can be somebody worthy of praise.”
