Jay’s next class was French II. He had Frank, Brit, and Macy with him during that period. It seemed like MPC had thrown Frank into all of Jay’s classes–or at least the elective ones. They probably wanted Frank to keep an eye on the [Freak].

Jay didn’t blame them. He had mouthed off a lot to Derek and Double-Agent Caroline about his ideas on the Chance Status, the power of story, and the influential and sensitive nature of his Gravity Affinity. His ideas could be seen here and now as they walked the hall to class.

The effects from the Champion Gathering had rippled out everywhere. Students and faculty alike looked at the four Champions walking together with wonder and apprehension. Macy glowed from the attention as she strutted at the front and led the way to French II.

Macy, Macy, Macy. A handful of a girl.

Just being close to her made Jay nervous. Like being next to a bomb that could go off at any moment. It had been okay when they were killing assassins together. But outside of that, Jay wanted to keep a safe distance away from her. Even though she was a very appealing girl to be around.

The second spot behind YoAnna for absolute top beauty belonged to the zaniest diva of Central High’s Divine Four. Long legs. Tanned skin. Ringlets of dirty blonde hair that gave her feisty movie actress face tempting but out-of-your-leagues energy. She was the pure form of a gifted mortal girl strapped with a personality that was worth bemoaning over and powers that shouldn’t suit her, but she made them work anyway.

Even now, Macy exuded a ridiculous level of confidence while dressed in a gray trash bag-looking mini-skirt, sneakers with the tops hacked off, and a baggy shirt cut into strips that streamed over her torso. She purposefully wore her makeup like dirt smudges and topped the outfit with a faded baseball cap.

A random girl took a picture of her.

Macy was on her a split second later, nearly scaring the girl half to death.

“Ten dollars.”

“I’m s-so sorry, Divine!” the girl squealed, shrinking under Macy’s wide-eyed gaze. “If you want me to delete–”

“No, no, no, don’t delete the picture. Post it! Share it with millions of my followers. But I need your donation for it.”

“My donation?” The girl piped up questioningly.

“Oh, my lovely child, it’s for a good cause!” Macy cheered. “I was struck by inspiration. The plight of the Junkers. It’s horrible down there if you didn’t know. And I have Junkside plebs–I mean–friends!” She waved her arms and sighed extra dramatically. “So, I’m wearing this never before seen piece to make a statement.”

“Oh, uh, that’s wonderful.”

“Fifteen, please,” Macy requested.

“B-b-but you said ten.”

“The extra five is for the explanation, and that’s without charging you for my presence,” Macy explained, waggling her sharply plucked eyebrows.

Seconds later, Macy returned to her spot in front of Jay. She sashayed her hips happily with an extra fifteen bucks in her fat purse.

Jay’s eyes lingered on her even though she was the pinnacle of a beautiful nightmare.

She was freaky to the [Freak]. But that had its own draw.

His [Eye of Venerated Madness] Talent looked deeper.

Name: Macy Baxter, Rank 2

Class: [Apprentice Crafter, Level 15]

Health: 400/400

Stamina: 710/710

Mana: 400/400

Chance: x9/x9

Noteworthy Info: This human shares an allegiance with you under the same Godling and Pantheon. No Affinity. Highest Attribute is 72 Discovery. Most Signature Item is Handy Dandy Mallet, Good. Most Pivotal Skill is [Gnomish Inspiration]. Most Particular Talent is [Pig Boon]. Most Unique Title is [Diva of Ridiculous Luck].

Jay favored the [Crafter] class more than the classical others, but he’d admit the Class was strange stat-wise. Macy’s build was different from Lilith’s and probably the proper setup for a [Crafter]. But Lilith had made it known that her investment in Intellect for her Alchemy Affinity was powerful.

So, Jay wondered what a traditional [Crafter] approach meant with high Stamina and Chance. And the latter status being that high gave Jay shivers–her ability to manipulate the story was stronger than Jay’s right now (he had Chance x7 currently).

And that was before including the [Diva of Ridiculous Luck] Title, which probably enhanced Discovery and Macy’s [Pig Boon] Talent, which did two things excellently. Her boon boosted Macy’s bargaining and bartering abilities and gave Discovery a huge increase in power when Macy was seeking or building toward a significant advantage.

In other words, Casey was naturally the luckiest and Chance-bendy Champion other than Jay. The YoAnna x Casey ship would be captained by her, no doubt. She would be the Divine's main villainess of romance.

Macy whirled around in front of the French classroom door and faced Jay. She struck a pose as she spoke in decently passable French. “I feel your deep gaze, my dear. Is it me that you seek?”

She curved back and thrust her chest forward. The fitted tube-top underneath the cut-to-strips shirt stretched across her chest. The streaming strips parted like a curtain before her thinly covered D-cup tits. Jay’s shorter height put Macy’s assets right in front of his face.

Worse yet, Jay’s gravity sense picked up the ripples of Chance at work. It was happening right in front of his eyes, too.

The Chance Status was empowering Macy's tits!

The [Freak] froze, mesmerized, struggling to resist.

“I don’t know what tomfoolery you’re up to,” Brit said, walking in between Jay and Macy’s Chance-warping boobs, “but I don’t like it. Get moving.”

Despite the four levels of difference between Macy and Brit, the [Medium] still had a higher [Applied AP] than Macy. But when Brit bounced to a stop against the [Crafter], unable to enforce her will upon Macy, it became apparent that Macy had more Strength than Brit.

“You can’t part me from my future lover,” Macy said in broken French. She struck another pose and flexed on Brit.

The audacity of the diva was so stunning for the holiest Champion that even Brit froze. Truly, there was no end to Macy's romantic villainy.

Was this the end of Jay? Would he be forever doomed by Macy’s evil Chance abusing tits?

“Shut the fuck up and get in class.” Frank yanked the classroom door wide open. Then he chucked Macy inside, squashing that dramatic moment.

Jay shook his head in dim amazement, snapping out of his daze. He looked at Frank thankfully and with wonder.

It must be nice being a [Fighter]. Nothing else concerned them other than hitting something hard and fast. It was strange for Jay to imagine how [Fighters] could persist when they were the likeliest to have low Conviction, Discovery, and Chance.

The questionable nature of [Fighters] and Chance kept Jay distracted during French II. The teacher didn’t pick him to answer any questions, thankfully. And Frank kept a close baleful watch of Macy, forcing her to keep her outrageous shenanigans under wraps. For now.

Class ended, and the four Champions became nine when gym class came up next. Only First Nerd, Second Nerd, and Third Nerd didn’t appear since they had AP Classes and other advanced classes that served as college credits.

The nice thing about gym class was the P.E. coach’s lackadaisical attitude. He would let seniors run amok or leave school early after roll call. It usually amounted to the girls sitting in the basketball court bleachers while the guys played ball.

On this occasion, all of the [Fighters] played with half the court unquestionably granted to them.

Jay sat on the bleachers with Brit, Macy, and Emily behind him. The on-and-off Band Lead got friendly with the most troubled pair of the Divine Four. Thankfully, Emily and Macy decided to leave Jay alone and focus on Brit.

Jay was more interested in seeing the [Fighters] hang out than listening to girl talk. For some reason, the most combat-oriented class seemed to click together in a way that no other Class clicked.

Jay felt something meaningful on the edges of his meta gravity sense. But he couldn’t perceive what exactly. All he could do was watch in amusement as the [Fighters] pushed the limits on what they could reveal with their Attributes without going too far. They flirted with showing off their superhuman nature.

Dennis and Frank shot 3-pointers from half-court. Dennis missed a few while Frank scored each time. Every shot was an effortless flick compared to what professional athletes would do from that distance. They took turns tossing the balls back to each other before switching every dozen or so baskets.

Rick tossed alley ops to his speedy brother as Tim leaped at the basket. Tim caught each air ball mid-flight and slammed the basket with the fanciest dunks he could create. The twins really started to have fun when Tim scooped up the mid-air basketballs and performed never before seen dunks. Tim would win any trick dunk contest with ease.

Casey dribbled hard before leaping from the 3-point line and windmilling the ball for a thunderous slam dunk! The entire hoop trembled like it was on the verge of falling apart. The Cheerleading Captain landed elegantly, strolled aside like it was no big deal, and refixed the scrunchy holding her straight blonde hair into a ponytail.

Surprisingly, Casey was the most girl-next-door chick you’d see among the privileged and influential. Her beauty was subtle. It would’ve been inviting if she was nicer. She was third in looks among the Divine Four, appealing to lovers of gym-fit, straight-forward, and dominant women. Ice blue eyes looked menacingly at anyone daring to exist in front of her unless they were especially favored.

And she was probably the most distant Champion from Jay relationship-wise.

[Eye of Venerated Madness] closed the knowledge gap on her abilities, at least.

Name: Casey Lindberg, Rank 2

Class: [Starter Fighter, Level 11]

Health: 560/560

Stamina: 649/660

Mana: 300/300

Chance: x5/x5

Noteworthy Info: This human shares an allegiance with you under the same Godling and Pantheon. No Affinity. Highest Attributes are 33 Strength, 33 Agility, 33 Conviction. Most Signature Item is Junior Valkyrie Sword and Shield, Basic. Most Pivotal Skill is [Rhythm of Battle]. Most Particular Talent is [Tiger Boon]. Most Unique Title is [Knight of Perseverance].

Casey was a seemingly bland [Fighter]. Nothing particular stood out at first glance. She didn’t rock a giant sword, something Dennis would. She didn’t have Rick’s self-disregard brazenness as a bloody tank, Tim’s unique approach as a ranged DPS dealer, or Frank’s draconic fury and ironic adoption of the katana.

Her stats were middling, too.

She was still dangerous, though. Jay remembered the way she moved and fought against the assassins. She was like dancing water, easily flowing from one objective to the next. A combination of movement abilities and her seemingly defensive Title [Knight of Perseverance] would afford her a position as an elegant dodge-tank that could take hits.

She also had the most dangerous boss-mincing Talent among the Champions.

[Tiger Boon].

The longer Casey dueled a specific opponent, the more her Strength and Agility and punishing strikes (hurting a foe when they make a mistake) got boosted. Her Conviction got a boost, too, when harmed in a direct confrontation. She didn’t incentivize getting hurt–but she covered it as an eventuality, especially if she was fighting a boss that wouldn’t go down to burst damage from Frank’s flames or Dennis’s immensely strong hits.

For some reason, Jay found that impressive.

Casey looked up. She looked at Jay from across the basketball court and studied him as he did the same. The tension between them grew. It was thick and heavy.

The temptation to go down and confront her arose in Jay. But that would be a bad look for the Champions right now. They needed to make it to the meeting tonight without further conflict. He needed to endure this rather than let the [Freak] out.

“Brit,” Jay called softly.

The on-and-off Band Lead broke away from her conversation with Emily and Macy. She hesitated to answer him, probably sensing the tension.

“Yes?”

“How did you deal with all those personalities in the band?” Jay asked.

Brit’s emotional gravity flared. She gripped her hands together. Then her emotions faded from Jay’s awareness.

“Find that spark in each of them,” Brit said. “And cultivate it. When it shines, embrace it. If it doesn't, embrace that, too.”

Jay looked back, arching an eyebrow.

“Sometimes, a frog is a frog no matter if you want it to be a prince,” Brit said. “If you embrace that frog, then you have a better head on your shoulders to make frog soup or set him up in a nice aquarium. Or let him go.”

In other words, Jay would have to figure out how to embrace the Divine Four. The [Freak] let out a shuddering breath as he watched Casey return to slam dunking and shooting shots with her fellow [Fighters].
