Chapter 56: From Strangers to Friends

Astoria and William had watched Siegfried battle the dragon with his outstanding weapon. It defied reality and set of events, as that was its main power. Everything the dragon did was only slashed away, or cut into pieces. It's fire was nothing more than the flames of a match. It's speed was only that of a snail. Siegfried dominated every aspect of the fight, it wasn't fair by any means.

"…UOOOOOOAAA…!!!" (Fafnir)

Fafnir was slashed across his neck, blood violently falling to the surface.

"Oh no, stay back! A dragons blood is dangerous, it'll kill you!" (Siegfried)

The green blood fell from its neck onto nearby civilians underneath them.

The civilian was pushed out the way, landing into an barrel of fruits.

"WILLIAM!!!" (Astoria)

William saved the civilian by pushing him out the way, ending up causing him to be the victim of the dragons blood.

She stepped back as the sole of her foot began to melt slowly.

Siegfried thought he was victor until Fafnir took advantage of his panicking. The dragon opened its jaws and roared a torrent of flames at the Hero, engulfing him whole.

She noticed Williams skin beginning to melt rapidly.

The civilian risen his hand and pointed it at Astoria.

"I'll blast you into oblivion, or perhaps bestow you with mana cancer so you can suffer for the rest of your life— huh?" (Civilian)

An aura began to appear around the Kyoko as her eyes lit up crystal blue.

"No way… you're a… Kyoko? What is your kind doing this far from the east side of Midgard? Impossible!" (Civilian)

An magical circle appeared in front of the man's hand.

"Let's see if you can deal with an Rank 5 spell! Hahahaha! I researched your clan and I know all about what they're capable of! When you Kyoko's obtain your Kyokogen, it's only able to nullify rank 4 spells and under. You have no way to nullify my spell, you're outmatched by royalty!!!" (Civilian)

"KAAHAHAHA! DIE! LIGHTNING MAGIC: CURRENTS OF MJOLNIR!" (Civilian)

An powerful tsunami of lightning shot from the Magical circle and mimicked that of a tsunami. It traveled throughout the alleyway of the city, swallowing Astoria and William both.

He placed his hand upon his face, laughing unto himself.

"I tricked her either way. Fuhahaha! That was an rank 9 spell! Only those of black mages can use them. I am an trained magician, I always keep my spell ranks hidden. She stood no chance, even with her Kyokogen—" (Civilian)

Once the lightning cleared away it shown an forcefield around Astoria and William.

"Impossible… there's no way you could've survived that!" (Civilian)

"Hey. You said you always keep your spell ranks hidden, didn't you?" (Astoria)

The man backed away, casting another magical circle.

"DIE YOU FILTHY COMMONERS!!!" (Civilians)

Several fireball spells were launched from the magic circle.

"You keep your spell ranks hidden, but so do we Kyoko's. We know how everyone else functions; they want information on us Kyoko's so they can understand our capabilities and how we function. Maybe they obtain that information so one day they won't have to fear us and know the way to counter us. Sadly though, we never talk about the other stages of the Kyokogens. And now I awakened my second stage! Your rank 9 magic is nothing before me." (Astoria)

The man shook in his legs.

"Impossible… there's stages of an Kyokogen? Then… what is the second stage capable of…?" (Civilian)

William looked at his hands as he was astonished.

"I casted an healing barrier on you. From what I seen, dragons blood is capable of eating away at someone's skin, and mana until it reaches your Mana force." (Astoria)

William seen his wounds healing, now standing up healthy again.

"That's incredible… you're amazing, Astoria!" (William)

"Hehe, it's nothing—" (Astoria)

Astoria was cut off, feeling William hug her.

"Thank you for saving me… I owe it all to you. But may I ask… how did you learn healing magic all the sudden?" (William)

Astoria hugged him back until they pulled away.

"I-I don't know… but it's like we Kyoko's obtain certain magic types in certain situations in order to counter against it. Only with our Kyokogens active though." (Astoria)

"Really? Is it permanent?" (William)

"Ummm… I guess so?" (Astoria)

Astoria held out her hand again.

"Healing Magic: Renewal!" (Astoria)

An green barrier appeared in front of them, fluttering with spell particles.

Two friends who met each other inside an slave carriage now became friends. They traveled far across the outside lands into Vrunemir kingdom, protecting each others back and making the best of any situation. William blushed.

One of the children from the carriage was far away at the exit gates that every other person escaped out.

The barrier around them started to grow wider and become more durable.

"We won't let the flames engulf us!" (William)

The barrier started to crack more… and more… until it broke a piece of the forcefield off.

"Damnit! More mana!" (William)

William extracted more mana into Astoria, powering her up even further.

"We got this!" (Astoria)

Astoria fell to her knee.

The flames eventually started to evaporate… showing an clear view around them of the city that's been turned to cinder.

"We did it!" (William)

The barrier quickly disappeared, showing Astoria fall on her face.

"Astoria!!!" (William)

William quickly ran to his friend, placing her in his arms, and picking her up from the ground.

"We have to quickly leave before the dragon makes another turn." (William)

"It's too late for that… boy…" (Fafnir)

Fafnir fluttered it's wings in the sky above them.

The flames suddenly stopped. William had his eyes closed and accepted his death, but he realized the flames didn't engulf him yet.

William opened his eyes to see an fairly tall man with an red royal cape down his back. The symbol he wore was the symbol of Feerota kingdom.

"I am King Feero, I've come to stop this madness." (Feero)
