Chapter 74: Jörmungandr the World Serpent

Siegfried finally made his way to the entrance of the castle holding Balmung inside his hands before wiping the side of his cheek, smothering the blood into his gauntlets.

"It's time I put an end to this Jörmungandr, once and for all..." (Siegfried)

Siegfried approached the massive doors in front of him, activating Balmung's power and surrounding it in a dark flame.

"...HEEEAA!!!" (Siegfried)

He swung his weapon into the air, slicing it down vertically. The entire blade had released an slash of dark flames, cutting the island size doors into two. They crumbled and fell, gaining both Grimhild and Merlin's attention as dragons began to flutter from the exit of their castle, roaring and shouting curse words at Siegfried.

"CURSE YOU SIEGFRIED THE DRAGON SLAYER! CURSE YOUUU!" (White Dragon)

The dragons in the sky all circled around Siegfried in the sky, flapping their wings about, and preparing to launch an all-out attack against the general.

"You dragons will finally meet your end after all you've done against humanity! I'll finish you all off, once and for all!" (Siegfried)

Siegfried would hold Balmung with two hands, jabbing it into the air above him as an thundering echo reverberated across the entire kingdom.

"I don't need to break all five seals to deal with you dragons, it's base power is enough. Now then... BE REDUCED TO ASHES!" (Siegfried)

"We won't be the one dying Siegfried! It is you who will perish from us dragons!" (Red Dragon)

There were a mix of dragons in the sky, to red, blue, black, and white. They all were powerful creatures, possessing infinite mana forces as all other dragons did.

"RELEASE YOUR ATTACKS! FIREEE!" (Blue)

They opened their jaws and released an wave of flames at Siegfried from above.

"...Simple flames from a few dragons won't be enough to stop me... haven't you all learned enough?" (Siegfried)

Siegfried leapt into the air and would charge at the mix of flames from above.

"NOW!" (White Dragon)

The dragon flames suddenly combined into one another creating an even more powerful spell.

"WHAT?" (Siegfried)

"OUR DRAGONIC MAGIC FAR SURPASSES YOUR CONCEPTUAL WEAPONS POWER! UNLOCKING IT'S SEALS WOULD'VE SAVED YOU, BUT IT'S OVER SIEGFRIED!" (Black Dragon)

"—YOU DAMN DRAGONS!" (Siegfried)

The mix of flames suddenly collided into Siegfried which shook space around them. Physics was distorted and reality seemed to crumble. These were the aftereffects of Dragonic Spells.

"Hahahahaha! What a sad ending for the almighty Dragon Slayer! You stood no chance from the beginning Siegfried!" (Blue Dragon)

"....What are you doing Siegfried?" (Grimhild)

"....M-Master Grimhild... can you please stop using me as a stool...?" (Merlin)

....Merlin was on her hands and knees as Grimhild sat on her back, crossing her legs with a teacup in her hand and small plate.

"It's an trivial punishment for you Merlin, be lucky I didn't curse you with an potent magic like Eldritch Magic." (Grimhild)

"I apologize for my wrong doings master Grimhild! Please, I have an title and reputation I must keep! I am the great Merlin, you must understand—!" (Merlin)

"And I am the great witch everyone knows of throughout history. Your pleas mean nothing to me, learn your place..." (Grimhild)

"Damnit... DAMNIT! My arms are losing strength... I have yet to recovered after our previous battle! How aren't you tired?!" (Merlin)

"Simple, because I have an blessing from the Root World known as Orb. He gives me and the others limitless stamina that allows us to continue fighting without fatigue." (Grimhild)

"...You've obtained a blessing from the Root World? I-I expect nothing less from you master... uunf!" (Merlin)

Merlin fell flat on her face as she collided into the magma filled rocks below.

"...Ngh..." (Merlin)

"You made me spill my tea Merlin, get back up and retry again..." (Grimhild)

Grimhild swept the liquid tea off her clothing with her hand, thumping it on the heated ground, and watching the tea sizzle away.

"Siegfried is holding back for some reason, I don't know why... but it may be from him trying to save much mana as he can." (Grimhild)

Merlin struggled to get back up, raising herself from the ground as Grimhild still sat on her back.

"Th-Then why... aren't you helping him?" (Merlin)

"It isn't my fate to intervene with Siegfrieds Destiny. The sisters of fate are linked to Yggdrasil itself, and they control all of fate for Yggdrasil, especially the heroes. They decide everything and how all things should end and be created. I know that it's not my job to intervene here..." (Grimhild)

"...So they even control the fate of the witches as well?" (Merlin)

"Not exactly. The gods control all of reality, and all races in Yggdrasil, while Maleficent specifically controls us witches and our fate, alongside some other higher authority witches." (Grimhild)

"...I-I see... so races like witches and demons are only controlled by their creators... that means that the gods are the ones who created every other race, correct?" (Merlin)

"Yes, you're correct. But I wouldn't exactly say the gods did it... rather the True God Everland done it by herself." (Grimhild)'

Merlin struggled in her position as her arms still wobbled back and forth.

"I see... that makes a lot of sense...ngh..." (Merlin)

Siegfried collided into the ground beneath him, forming a crater behind his back as blood dripped from his mouth.

"...I only managed to survive from my armor..." (Siegfried)

Siegfried stood back up and knocked on his armor a few times, feeling how sturdy, and durable it was.

"Wearing it allows me to evade certain death, it was forged and created by king Vrunemir and his most gifted blacksmiths! You dragons have met your fate, you should've planned another strategy against me if your attack failed, but you all underestimated me!" (Siegfried)

Siegfried once again surrounded Balmung in a dark flames as he leapt into the air again, accelerating towards one of the dragons.

"This cannot be! Our dragonic magic is meant to kill someone like you! How can some armor make our magic look weak?" (White Dragon)

"BEGONE!!!" (Siegfried)

He slashed Balmung forward which sent shockwaves through the sky. Those same shockwaves became violent black explosions that imploded around the other dragons as well, sweeping them away in just one attack. 

"....Whew..." (Siegfried)

Siegfried landed back down to the ground and looked ahead of him. It was time to finally face off against Jörmungandr once and for all. 

"Your death awaits you Jörmungandr! I, Siegfried will have your head." (Siegfried)

Siegfried strolled towards the castle entrance, barely unable to stand after wasting all of his mana... but that didn't stop him. Just fighting Merlin was enough to drain him dry, but he knew it was his destiny to defeat the creator of dragons, and end them once and for all.

"YOU HAVE DONE A GREAT SERVICE TO ME MY CHILDREN!" (???)

"That voice...?" (Merlin)

Grimhild risen her eyebrow, hearing this... person... for the first time.

"Who said that?" (Siegfried)

"Who do you think Siegfried? I've always wanted to meet you forever, and for you to fulfill your destiny as the sisters of fate created. Do you know what your destiny is exactly?" (Jörmungandr)

"My destiny...? It is to defeat you Jörmungandr! I'll slay you and finally save humanity from your joke that you call an experiment!" (Siegfried)

"Hoh? The Ouroboros duel? You think of it as a joke? Ahahahaha, I expected nothing more from a human such as yourself. You are too stubborn to believe that humans are evil creatures..." (Jörmungandr)

"It isn't our fault that we humans were corrupted by overlord and it's power to make us become the most chaotic race. That is simply done by the gods creations... but even then, there are other humans out there that shows promise to become good people! You can't see that can you, Jörmungandr?" (Siegfried)

The world serpent chuckled once.

"No, I know most humans are kind... some are even pure of nature such as you and the Templar knights that marched here to defeat me. But there's one thing no one has told you... and that is humans are meant to be experiments created by the gods themselves." (Jörmungandr)

"WHAT??" (Siegfried)

Siegfried clenched his teeth as his eyes widened.

"What do you mean by that? Explain yourself!" (Jörmungandr)

"Humans, you all were an race created by the gods to become experimental lab rats and nothing more. Other races such as the elves, fairies and much more are superior than you, but why is that exactly?" (Jörmungandr)

Reality struck Siegfried... he was learning the truth about him and his people after so long...

"It's because the gods wanted to test their creations on you. Overlord was an experiment to see if you humans can resist its effects and become pure creatures, but no. You all were too weak and lacked the willpower. Many were affected by the blade Overlord, and humans were the ones most exposed to its evilness thus making you all the most greediest race and chaotic race out of any other. Simple experiments... nothing more..." (Jörmungandr)

"...Nghh.... GNNN... JÖRMUNGANDRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!" (Siegfried)

"AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!" (Jörmungandr)
