Chapter 244 - Tong Xuelu blinked at him, “What would you like to ask me, Comrade Wen?” (2)

Edited by: Lulu

Pu Jianyi smiled from ear to ear. “Happy birthday, Comrade Tong!”

Pu Jianyi’s gift was a bright red thermos with yellow and white peony prints.

It was ugly but festive. It looked like a product from that era but very practical.

It so happened that they needed a thermos at home and it was very inconvenient to not have one in the winter time.

Jiang Danhong, too, bought out her present. “Happy birthday, Xuelu.”

After the two had become familiar with each other in the kitchen earlier, they had started addressing each other by their first names instead of prefixing with “Comrade”.

The gift from her was a fountain pen, also a very fancy gift in this era/

“Thank you, Big Sister Danhong.”

Tong Xuelu did think that Jiang Danhong would bring with her such a fancy gift. She felt a bit bad about it.

Nevertheless, with someone with a strong ego like Jiang Danhong, she would for certain overthink it if Tong Xuelu declined the gift.

Sure enough, Jiang Danhong finally smiled after Tong Xuelu had accepted the gift.

Pu Jianyi looked over at Jiang Danhong, then at Tong Xuelu. He tsked and said, “Since when did you two become so close with each other?”

Jiang Danhong had never been nice to him. She just pretended that she didn’t hear him.

Noticing the peculiar atmosphere between the two, Tong Xuelu was a bit curious about that. “Of course us women have more in common to talk about then with men. What’s so strange about that?”

Pu Jianyi tsked again. “Oh, I see. Well, good then. Why don’t you try and talk her out of reporting her husband and her father-in-law then?”

The atmosphere died down as soon as he had said that.

Jiang Danhong’s face dropped and her eyes burned with anger.

Had it not been where they were, she would most likely had already slapped him across his face.

Tong Xuelu hadn’t expected Pu Jianyi to be such a fool. Her face dropped and she said, “Why would I want to talk her out of that? You do not tell someone to be forgiving unless you had walked in their shoes. You had never experienced what she had. Who are you to tell her to be kind and forgiving?”

Pu Jianyi, looking embarrassed, said, “I just mean that……”

“The heck with you ‘just mean’!” Tong Xuelu cut him off rudely. “What if you are r*ped by a man one day and he broke your backdoor. He had an 80-year-old mother and a three-year-old son and his wife asked you for forgiveness, would you?”

Pu Jianyi, “……”

Wen Rugui, “……”

Jiang Danhong, “……”

Tong Jiaming blushed. Tong Jiaxin and Tong Mianmian had blank looks on them.

Tong Mianmian cocked her head and asked in her milky voice, “Big Sister, what is backdoor? And what happened when it breaks?”

Pu Jianyi, “……”

Tong Xuelu almost busted out laughing from the little bun’s question. “Backdoor is the door in the back. You won’t be able to use it anymore when its broken.”

Tong Mianmian thought about it some and seemed to have understood something. She turned toward Pu Jianyi and said to him, “Uncle Pu, you should be careful with your backdoor then.”

Pu Jianyi, “……”

“PUUUFFFF—”

Tong Xuelu finally busted out laughing.

Listening to the children talk, even Jiang Danhong had calmed down a little.

Pu Jianyi’s face turned the color of pig liver and he seemed to have finally realized what he had said was inappropriate. He scratched his head and said, “Alright, I won’t say that anymore. I owe you an apology, Comrade Jiang.”

Having said that, he got up and saluted Jiang Danhong.

Jiang Danhong still looked unhappy at him.

Still looking awkward, Pu Jianyi turned toward Tong Mianmian and said, “Little girl, how can you call him Brother Wen and me Uncle Pu? I am younger than that Big Brother by half a year!”

Tong Xuelu put on a shocked look, “You are younger than Comrade Wen?”

Pu Jianyi, “What? Can’t you tell? I think I still have quite a baby face.”

Tong Xuelu rolled her eyes. “I can’t tell at all. I’d think you are already 35 had you not tell me that.”

She was exaggerating. That being said, Wen Rugui had a very youthful look and for sure looked a few years younger than Pu Jianyi.

Pu Jianyi, “……”

Hurt, Pu Jianyi no longer wish to speak. He focused all of his energy on eating.

The pork intestines were very different than what they’ve had before and had no odd taste at all. They were soft and aromatic, fatty but not filling. The more they had, the better they tasted. It turned out to be a very popular dish.
