Chapter 248 - Just why couldn't her brother step up his game? (1)

Edited by: Lulu

The Mid-Autumn festival came and gone in the blink of an eye.

Mother Tong dreamed about Tong Zhenzhen suffering at the farm and woke up feeing awful.

She kept thinking about her dream while she was at work that day. As such, she phoned the farm during her break.

Even though Tong Zhenzhen had presented to her mother that she was voluntarily staying at the farm. She, of course, did not mean that.

Who would want to stay at an awful place like the farm?

Never mind that she was exhausted from the work every day. Never having enough to eat or getting enough sleep. What was even worse was that she would be lectured from time to time.

She thought that even if her parents couldn’t get her out of here, they would at least do something to improve her current situation.

Lo and behold, they didn’t’ do a thing!

She couldn’t’ believe that!

As such, she did not sound pleasant at all when she answered the call. “Why are you calling me at this hour? I still got work to do in the farm.”

Mother Tong felt even worse when she heard about farm work. “How have you been, Zhizhi? Are you well? Do you have enough to eat?”

Mother Tong had planned to have someone dropped some supplies off at the farm over the Mid-Autumn Festival but the Women’s Association had an event during Mid-Autumn Festival that had her running around like the chicken with its head cut off. By the time she recalled it again on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, it was already too late.

Tong Zhenzhen rolled her eyes. “How could anything be well at this ungodly place? The food are long gone!”

Mother Tong said quickly, “I’ll send you some. What would you like?”

Tong Zhenzhen felt better when she heard that. “Mom, I am out of money. Can you send some over to me?”

Mother Tong quickly agreed to that. Then she lowered her voice and gave Tong Zhenzhen some good news. She told her that the political atmosphere had been getting better and they might be able to get her out sooner.

Tong Zhenzhen was not pleasantly surprised at all when she heard that. She knew better than anyone else that the political atmosphere would only improve from this point forward.

Except that there were still 9 months left in her sentence. She wasn’t sure she was going to make it!

Mother Tong had no idea what was going through Tong Zhenzhen’s hand and continued to yak.

Tong Zhenzhen was in no mood to listen to that. She cut her off abruptly and said, “Have you visited my siblings on the other side yet?”

Mother Tong’s hand tightened and, after a short pause, she said, “Yes, I have. And they had already forgiven you.”

There was finally a smile on Tong Zhenzhen’s face when she heard that. “Mom, do visit them often for me. My adoptive parents were gone and it’s sad that they are all orphaned.”

Mother Tong promised her that she would but she stuck her lips out after she hung up on the phone.

There was no way she would go and visit those kids!

Mainly she did not want to see Tong Xuelu. She had raised a white-eyed wolf all these years.

Never mind that she hasn’t been visiting regularly. She didn’t even come over on Mid-Autumn Festival. What an ungrateful thing!

Tong Xuelu sneezed in the kitchen. She wonder if Wen Rugui was thinking about her.

This day and age was very inconvenient. There was no phone or cellphone and they were not so far apart in distance to write letters to each other.

So all they could do was to think about each other.

Guo Weiping walked past her and Tong Xuelu said to him, “Xiao Guo, you are going to start learning how to cook from me today.”

Guo Weiping’s eyes widened from surprise. He shook his hands incessantly when he recollected himself. “Oh no, I can’t. I haven’t even mastered chopping vegetables yet!”

Tong Xuelu rolled her eyes. “You have lots of time to perfect that. I’ll teach you a few simple stir fries. They are easy.”

Chef Meng was the kind who would spend ten years in grinding a piece of metal down to a needle. That was too long.

She was the only chef at the restaurant right now and she couldn’t even take any time off. That was too inconvenient.

She would not be able to take time off to go on dates if she didn’t train up Guo Weiping.

So many others would take any opportunities there were to learn sneakily. Low and behold, Guo Weiping wouldn’t even do it when the opportunity opened up to him.

Tong Xuelu spent a long time to convince him.

That was very bizarre.
