Chapter 263 - Tong Xuelu sneered when she heard that. (4)
Tong Xuelu noticed that something was off. She asked Meng Qingqing in a low voice, “What’s the matter, Meng Qingqin? Did you sleep poorly the night before?”
Meng Qingqing looked up at her, her lips parted, but she finally shook her head and said, “I am fine.”
Tong Xuelu frowned a little when she heard that.
Meng Qingqing’s eyes were blood shot and her lids a little swollen. She didn’t look fine at all.
Seeing that Meng Qingqing had no intention of sharing, Tong Xuelu decided against continuing to pry.
That afternoon, Fang Jingyuan came over to lunch again on her bicycle.
She had been coming from time to time since he learned that Tong Xuelu was a good cook.
Today, however, she also had news to share with Tong Xuelu – that Mother Tong had been hospitalized for appendicitis yesterday.
It was one thing if Tong Xuelu never found out about it. Now that she knew, for certain she needed to go visit Mother Tong.
She gave Liu Dongchang a heads up after lunch.
She bought two bags of snacks from the CSMC before he took a car ride over to visit Mother Tong at the hospital.
She heard people talking inside the patient room before she could walk inside.
“Let me tell you. There is a difference between a real child and an adopted one. My daughter had been kidnapped before and the police made a mistake when she was found and I raised someone else’s daughter for over 10 years. You know how the child acted after she had returned to her own family?
“How?”
“She never even returned to visit us! Not even once! That was so disheartening!”
“Oh mi, are you saying that you have raised a white-eyed wolf? Even if you are not her real parents, you still raised her for over 1-years. I don’t blame you for feeling disheartened!”
“Ai, let’s stop talking about her. Talking about her makes me feel unhappy, like there’s a big rock inside my chest!”

“Don’t let it bother you too much. It’s not worth it over a white-eyed wolf. Oh right, what’s going on with your real daughter then?”
“…… My daughter went to become a rusticated youth in the village. She said she wanted to what the country had asked of her. She had signed up behind our back and went to become a rusticated youth in the village all on her own.”
“Oh mi, it sounded like even though you didn’t raise your daughter, she still turned out quite outstanding. As for that white-eyed wolf, she is hopeless despite the nice environment that she grew up in. Just like that old saying – you are who you born to be. Nothing can change that!”
Tong Xuelu sneered to herself when she heard that outside the door.
There were three reasons why she had never visited the Tong’s since she had returned to her original family.
First of all, she had been running around like chicken with its head cut off.
Ever since she had returned to the Tong’s, she had to go up against those from their home town, get herself a better job, look for a new place to stay, help Su Xiuying turn her husband in. Then there was the incident at the school. This was really the first break that she had.
Secondly, she had purposefully kept a distance from them.
She had wanted to maintain an amicable relationship with them in the beginning but Tong Zhenzhen had hit Tong Mianmian the last time she went back. Even though Tong Zhenzhen was sent to the ranch in the end but, as long as Tong Zhenzhen was around, they would never have an amicable relationship.
To maintain a relationship with the Tong family meant to continue aggregating Tong Zhenzhen and for Tong Zhenzhen to hate her even more.
She was not worried about Tong Zhenzhen coming at her. She worried more that Tong Zhenzhen might crack and go after the three siblings. Tong Mianmian, in particular, was too young and was defenseless.
As such, she had chosen to keep a distance from the Tong family.
The final reason was blood-relationship.
When Mother Tong saw Tong Zhenzhen hitting her last time, her first and foremost concern wasn’t whether she was okay, but to have her not to file a complaint against Tong Zhenzhen.
That was pretty much how it went in the original novel as well. Mother Tong had always said that she loved both her daughters just the same. Nevertheless, after Tong Zhenzhen had set her up and married her off to her husband in her previous life, the divorced wife-beater, the Tong’s had never stepped in to try to help the original owner.
Nor did Father and Mother Tong tried to get justice for the original owner after she was beaten to death by her husband.
As such, she had kept a distance away from the Tong’s ever since Tong Zhenzhen was sent to the ranch.
That being said, keeping a distance away didn’t mean that she didn’t do anything at all.
