Chapter 264 - Tong Miammian's eyes welled up. (1)
When she asked Fang Jingyuan to repay her loan to Chen Yueling, she bought snacks for the Tong family.
She had planned to visit the Tong’s over Mid-Autumn Festival but it did not happen because of the rain. Fang Jingyuan came over to the restaurant the next day and Tong Xuelu had, once again, asked her to bring her mooncakes and homemade raw dumplings to the Tong’s.
When she heard that Mother Tong was in the hospital, she came running over immediately.
Sure, she should have visited them more often. But she also didn’t expect Mother Tong to badmouth her like this.
A nurse walked by and was baffled when she saw Tong Xuelu. “Are you here to visit someone? Why aren’t you entering the room?”
Tong Xuelu smiled at her, “I am just about to.”
Mother Tong, hearing the voice form the outside, was stunned and suddenly not looking so hot.
Tong Xuelu pushed opened the door and walked inside. The woman who was talking to Mother Tong earlier looked over at her and asked loudly, “Who are you looking for, girl?”
“Hi Aunty, I am here to visit my mom,” said Tong Xuelu docilely with a smile. She then turned toward Mother Lu and called her. “Mom.”
Mother Tong lips tightened a little but she wasn’t able to say a word.
As though not noticing Mother Tong’s awkwardness, Tong Xuelu placed the snacks that she brought onto the cabinet.
She then handed her a glass of warm water. “Mom, I didn’t know you were sick earlier. Jingyuan just told me about it today.”
Mother Tong took the glass from her and aye’d a couple of times, avoiding Tong Xuelu’s eyes.
The woman next to them let out a “aiyo”. “This is your daughter? She sure is pretty!”
“Oh, Big Sister, you are so lucky! Your daughter is so pretty and attentive. She came all the way from the countryside when she learned that you are sick. What a nice child she is!”
“……”
Mother Tong’s look could not have been stiffer. She could neither acknowledge nor deny that statement.
She felt stiffed.
The woman immediately realized that something was off after she had finished making that statement. “No wait. How are you able to get here so quickly if you just learned about this today? Is the place where you are staying close to here?”

Worried that Tong Xuelu would slip and shared that Tong Zhenzhen was locked up in a ranch, Mother Tong quickly added, “That’s right. The ranch that she is at is not far from Capital City.”
The woman acknowledged that with a “Oh” and said nothing else. She, however, gave Tong Xuelu a suggestive look.
The way that Mother Tong was bragging about her daughter made it sound like her daughter had gone to some harsh and far away place to be a rusticated youth. As it turned out, it was just somewhere nearby.
The production teams that were around capital city were conveniently located and also more prosperous. Only those that had connections would be able to be rusticated youth in those locations. In addition, most of them were the ones who avoided being sent to tougher areas.
So all that was said about supporting the believes of the country were just a nonsense.
Mother Tong could tell what was going through the woman’s mind from her look. Nevertheless, she couldn’t possibly explain herself right now so she had no choice but to admit to the accusations silently.
That did not help with the dull feeling inside her chest!
A sarcastic look flashed through Tong Xuelu’s face. “Mom, how are you feeling? What did the doctor say?”
Mother Tong frowned. “The doctor gave me some prescriptions and it is hurting less today.”
Tong Xuelu, “So we are going the conservative route? Are you planning on having a surgery later on?”
Mother Tong frowned immediately when she heard “surgery” being mentioned. “What surgery? This is nothing serious. Besides, I am not longer feeling any pain. I can be discharged tomorrow.”
In Mother Tong’s mind, having a surgery was something very bad.
What good could come out of one’s body being cut up?
That thought irritated her.
The best treatment for appendicitis was surgical excision. Conservative treatment could alleviate the symptoms for the time being but it had a very high chance of turning into chronic appendicitis and would cause more issues.
Tong Xuelu thought about it some and finally decided to voice her concern with Mother Tong.
She had barely started talking when Mother Tong interrupted her impatiently. “What do you know? Are you a doctor? Stop talking already. Do you want me to have a surgery that badly?”
Well, fine, whatever you say then.
Tong Xuelu kept her mouth shut. She had done her bidding and if Mother Tong didn’t want to listen to her, that was her prerogative.
