Ehmvier Village fell into another celebration upon Kanae's and her army's return. These festivities were happening a lot lately, but it was well-deserved after their string of victories.

The Sisters of Sin took care of doling out Talon's punishment. Kanae walked up to the cage in which she was trapped with a roper caught from the forest. The many tentacles of the high level monster bound her tightly. Others had less than savory intentions, prodding every open hole available to be penetrated.

By Kanae's side were villagers, hooting at Talon getting fucked and drained. She didn't give Talon the satisfaction of getting charmed and left her mind intact to break slowly.

"Mmrpphh! Shllrrp… hahh… Please… Mercy— iieeee!" Talon shrieked with pleasure from being forced to another climax.

"Demon Queen, huh?" Arenade chuckled at the new title as she came up from behind. "Well, you're fitting that role to the dot doing stuff like this."

"I have to do something to make an example out of people like Talon. Better pleasure than pain." Kanae shrugged, then offered an arm for Arenade to hook her elbow around.

They strolled the village together. Their feet no longer kicked up dirt with each step, and instead clicked upon roads paved in cobblestone and granite. Mining for ore yielded a lot of stone as a byproduct. For a village mostly made of lumber, it had many uses.

"How are you feeling? Crushed under the weight of ruling a sovereign nation yet?" Arenade asked in jest.

"It's a little overwhelming, but I don't actually feel much different. The biggest change? I'm worried that if we lose to the Protectorates, then my whole country is going down with it." Kanae sighed.

"Sounds like qualities of a leader to me. As monarch, if you're worried about the little guys farming and hunting all day, then you're better than 90% of the rulers I've met," she said.

They paused and stepped off the main road when a large merchant caravan drove into the village. Twenty vehicles in total, it looked like.

"Ho, there!" a frail beastman hollered from his wagon. "Greetings, Queen Kanae. Would you be so kind as to point to where your market square's located?"

"Keep going down this road until you see a black harpy getting hammered by a roper. You can set up there," Kanae said.

"Aye? Did you say a black harpy getting hammered by a roper? Is that just a funny shop name?" he asked.

"You'll see when you get there. Just treat it like a fun little centerpiece to watch while you conduct trade," she added mischievously.

The caravan leader tipped his hat and continued onward to the surprise that lay ahead.

"Honestly… doing a lot better than me," Arenade said, casting a sidelong glance at the children frolicking about.

Unlike in Lorgrain and Orturic, poverty wasn't really a concept in Ehmvier. The villagers here looked after one another instead of for themselves.

"If only you were by my side back then," she quietly added.

"I'm by your side now." Kanae smiled.

Those same kids raced past them toward the market square.

"Hey, let's throw rocks at the harpy!"

"She's got to be passed out by now!"

Arenade rolled her eyes. "It's too bad you're a bad influence to them."

"Kanae, Arenade!" Will waved to them as he crossed the street. "Something of grave importance just came up. May I speak with you two in private?"

They followed Will back to his cozy home. A fire was going at the hearth with a cauldron of bubbling stew. Displayed above the mantle was his Lionhead Buckler, earned from their first Rift.

"What's wrong? You look spooked." Arenade pointed out.

"It's my sister…" Will said and hesitated to say more.

"The next Grand Eye, right? Did something happen?" Kanae asked.

He nodded. "Apparently, the Grand Eye passed away a few months ago. Ana… Analise Bellevue has assumed the mantle. I received a letter from a courier today. Her letter. Telling me to leave no man's land while I still can. Kanae, it isn't just the Protectorates who are coming. My sister has mobilized the Saint Priests."

The only one who reacted to the revelation was Arenade, whose eyes snapped wide open.

"Uhhh. I'm going to need someone to explain to me what the Saint Priests are," Kanae said.

"If the Knights of the Order of Colors are where heroes in training go, then Saint Priests are where they went after passing on the title!" Arenade exclaimed.

"S-So, that's bad?"

"For us," Will promptly answered. "There are possibly dozens of Knights of Colors at equivalent caliber to Bardell or Estaline. But among the Saint Priests, there are only eight members. They serve as the Grand Eye's and king's personal bodyguards."

Kanae gulped. Then for the Grand Eye to send such a force meant they really wanted to deal with the demon threat. The question was, were they coming to deal with the demons entering no man's land? Or her?

This complicated things. They were supposed to deal with Bardell and the Protectorates alone. If the Saint Priests were powerful enough to shock Will and Arenade, then maybe the Commonwealth of Sin was doomed after all.

"Can I see the letter?" Kanae asked. "Maybe there's more in there that might give us a clue to their intentions."

"Y-You want to see the letter? But I just told you everything that's in it," Will said.

Kanae and Arenade immediately sensed something fishy.

"Fork it over," Arenade demanded.

Will began to back away. "There really isn't anything else important in the letter—"

"Charm." Kanae cast the spell to seize control of Will's body. "Hand the letter over."

The paladin moved with great anguish, fetching the letter from a cupboard. He gave it to Arenade, and they were surprised by how beautiful the parchment was with gold trim and even smelled of flowery perfume.

"My dearest brother," Arenade began. "It has been two long years since I have seen you. Please, come home and return to your elder sister's embrace. I miss you oh so much. Memories of us bathing together, brushing each other's hairs, and sleeping together is all I have of you…"

They paused and stared up at Will as the contents of the letter started getting suspicious in the wrong way. He averted his gaze, going as far as shutting his eyes in shame.

Arenade continued, "My spies from Lograin have reported back and told me you have grown intimate with a tramp. What accursed whore dares lay a hand on my beloved little brother? Now I learn that she has whisked you away to no man's land to live in squalor? I should have the king order her hanged! Nay, I shall string her up myself! Return to me hence, William. Otherwise, I shall have my two most capable Saint Priests, Delayn and Vestrid, come lay waste to that bitch-whore succubus village and bring you home. Love, your always-doting sweet elder sister, Ana."

By the end of it, Will was whistling absentmindedly to himself under Kanae and Arenade's judging glare.

"So this is your fault!" Arenade tossed the letter back into his face.

"Let me get this straight… Your sister isn't actually sending Saint Priests to deal with demons, but because she wants you back and thinks I stole your heart? I'm sorry, Will… but I think your sister is a brocon," Kanae said.

"Please! You slander the name of Grand Eye by calling my sister a brocon!" Will groaned.

"Your sister slanders the name of Grand Eye by being a brocon!" they fired back.

Arenade pulled Kanae aside and whispered, "I say we ship Will back to Radevic to quell the Grand Eye's wrath."

"It's a good idea, but…"

"I'm right here! I can still here you two! I'm begging you not to send me back. My sister is so overbearing. I became an adventurer just so I can get away from home!" he cried.

Kanae put a hand to her face and sighed. If the Grand Eye discovered that they had sex— which might already be known to her anyway— then Ehmvier might as well be destroyed.

Maybe there was another way.

"I won't send Will back. He's a dear friend who helped us out of a pinch more than once. Besides, he's a citizen of the Commonwealth of Sin. The Grand Eye is invading our country, so we need to defend against them," Kanae said, steeling her resolve on the matter.

"You're treading on hot coals and someone's pumping magical fire onto it, you know? How do you plan on dealing with the Saint Priests?" Arenade asked.

"I have one plan. It's a long shot that involves Talon and the letter between her and Minestra. We need to defeat Bardell first, because he's the sole reason we're in this mess," she explained.

Everyone agreed. Will breathed a sigh of relief as Kanae released him, but it might still be too soon to celebrate.

"If it comes down to it, I'll continue to fight on your side. However… If they truly prove to be too strong of a force to face… then you have my blessing to send me back to my sister," Will said.

"Hopefully, it doesn't have to come to that. By the way, the Grand Eye was supposed to have achieved Deification, right? Doesn't that mean Analise is weaker than the previous?" Kanae asked.

"Oh… about that," he hesitantly began. "The whole training that I mentioned? It was to help her achieve that. It's been five years since she started, and I'm pretty sure Ana has been deified upon her ascension to Grand Eye."

"Ehh… On second thought, maybe I should just send you to Radevic…"

"At least put up a fight!"

As night fell, Kanae found herself flying over the village— no, it was practically a city now. She wandered the city in search of Edina. The necromancer had been skipping her high priestly duties at the church lately. She found her sitting on the roof of a watchtower, kicking her legs over a hundred feet from the ground.

"Can't sleep?" Kanae asked as she flew up to her.

"One of my undead scouts got destroyed. Bardell's for sure in no man's land. Could be any day now. Could be tomorrow," Edina said, casting a sidelong glance at their own armies gathering and camped outside of Ehmvier.

They came from all across no man's land. From Highgreen and Talahurah, and even smaller villages and tribes that pledged loyalty to the Commonwealth.

"Still scared?"

"Nah. not anymore. I got something I wanna keep, and I'm damn glad I stuck with you guys. Heard we got Saint Priests coming, too. If the Protectorates don't put up a fight, then they sure as three hells will. Whatever happens, I'm going to fight with you until the very end!" Edina flashed a toothy grin.

"That's a big promise. You sure you're not going to squirrel your way out of this fight somehow?" Kanae teased.

"Psh. And miss out making fun of Bardell's tiny pin prick? We're gonna show him that succubus can bite back hard, and this squirreling's got some big chompers."

The two fist-bumped to seal the deal. As friends from the start, neither had any intentions of leaving the other again.

"We still got time. Wanna fly a bit?" Kanae asked, standing up and stretching her wings to their glorious length.

"Not unless you wanna wager something. First one to that mountain peak owes the other a million gold!" Edina leaped off for a head start.

"Hey! What are you even going to do with a million gold out here?" Sighing, she chased after the squirreling to humor their bet anyway.
