Kanae and Edina led the way as they ascended to the crest of the hill. Following behind them were Lilith, Noah, Sheeba, and Will. They were all dressed for war and knew what was at stake.
Two Knights of Colors awaited them at the top. Estaline and Bardell, both more armed to the teeth than usual in what Kanae immediately sensed were enchanted gear. When they came face to face at last, Edina rumbled with a low growl and grinding teeth at the sight of her old boss. In contrast, the crime lord-turned knight regarded Edina with a sneer.
"Save yourself the trouble and surrender, demons. We may show you mercy yet," Bardell taunted, flexing the thick arms folded across his chestplate.
Kanae took a deep breath and exhaled out her hesitation. "You're trespassing on the Commonwealth of Sin. As its queen, I'm obligated to protect my people and will treat your encroachment into my territory as an act of aggression. Noah of Highgreen and Sheeba of Talahurah serves as my witness to the Knights of Colors' invasion."
"Talahurah?" The centaur raised a brow at Sheeba.
"What's wrong, Bardell? Expecting someone else?" Edina smirked.
Although Bardell shifted uncomfortably on his hind legs, he quickly recomposed himself. Learning that Talon was defeated must have thrown him off. Just not enough, it seemed.
"Estaline," Kanae turned to the drakeling knight. "I know where your loyalties lie, but the real enemy is the one standing next to you and the demons behind my country. The previous leader of the beastmen nation, Talon, was conspiring with the demon lieutenants, Lady and Minestra. So was Bardell. I have proof."
Sheeba walked forward with the letter in hand, but she stopped halfway between them. Estaline met her the rest of the way. When they exchanged the letter, the knight's demeanor wrinkled.
"Emerald, this is damning evidence of your collusion with demons." Estaline tightened her draconic eyes on her colleague.
"You believe them so easily? They could have forged it to turn you against me. I'm willing to bet they have Talon somewhere in that little town of theirs, charmed by the succubus and ready to say whatever it takes to paint me as evil," Bardell said, waving a dismissive hand at the notion.
Kanae chewed on her lower lip. She expected him to make that argument, and there was little that could be said to convince them otherwise. They would be stupid not to take a succubus' words with a grain of salt.
The giant Protectorate army behind Bardell and Estaline were no wild beastmen tribes. They were well-supplied, backed by the largest religious organization in the world and the powerful order of knights dedicated to repelling demons. This battle wasn't going to turn out the same way as the others.
"This discussion is a waste of time," Bardell said, turning to leave. "The Saint Priests are on their way, and I intend to conquer this village before they arrive. Let's go, Silver."
Estaline returned the letter to Sheeba and gave Kanae a somber, apologetic look because she had no choice.
"Maybe I can use my leverage as the Grand Eye's younger brother to stall?" Will offered.
"No, I got a better idea." Edina slammed the base of her staff to the ground and summoned a bone brute to stop them from leaving. "Bardell, you clit-pricked dick, I'm challenging you to a duel!"
"What?!" Kanae and the others gasped.
Bardell spun around with an amused grin. "Oh? Is that you, Edina? I thought you looked a little different. So you're a succubus now. Did you miss being beaten? If you wanted to be abused so badly, then you should come back to Lograin."
"If you think I'm the one getting beat, you got another thing coming. What's it gonna be? Your little prick going to shrivel up and hide like a scared turtle?" she asked.
The centaur's clenched fists trembled with anger.
"You're all the same, mocking me for my… Fine! If it's a duel you want, then a duel you will get!" Bardell declared.
Both armies gathered at the foot of the hill less than a hundred meters across from each other. Bardell was waiting in the empty field between them, head of the axe to the ground and ready to fight.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Kanae asked worriedly.
Edina nodded. "If I take him outta the picture, I feel like we can at least get through to Estaline. The Protectorates might even piss their pants and think twice about fighting us."
"That's if you beat him."
"Man… I've been scared of Bardell all my life." The squirreling sighed. "I chose to become a succubus so that I can fight him. All the trouble that he's given us, and you… it's because I used to roll with them. This is me taking responsibility. You can't buff me, alright? I have to do this with my own strength… and the strength you and everyone gave me by being my friend."
Kanae drew Edina in for a hug. Small hands found purchase behind her back and squeezed tightly. There was conviction in the strength of her embrace.
"Okay, Edina. You show Bardell how great of a necromancer you've become then." Kanae smiled.
"Hehe. Become? I've always been a great necromancer! Three hells, I'm the greatest necromancer in the damn world!" Edina exclaimed aloud.
Both challengers were on the field now and only a stone's throw away from the other. Kanae held her breath until someone wrapped their fingers around her clenched fist. It was Arenade, who had left the safety of the village to join them.
"You shouldn't be out here. This can just as easily turn into an all-out fight," Kanae warned.
"How can I not be out here? That's our ratwhore squirreling out there," Arenade said.
Kanae sighed, then relaxed her hand to entwine their fingers together. That's right. They were all friends. This started with just the three of them, so it was a given that they support Edina together.
"Last chance, Edina. Give up, and I'll go easy on you." Bardell drew the greataxe from his back.
"Fat chance— Rise, Legion of the Dead!" Edina twirled her necromantic staff, summoning portals from which an army of undead climbed out. "Attack!"
The horde of skeletal monstrosities surged onward like a tsunami. They had come far from being the meager undeads back in Orturic, dressed in no armor and wielding rusty weapons.
"Beastman Constitution! Bestial Strength!" Bardell shouted familiar skill names that made his bulky and armored body glow with magic. They were buffs that Sheeba uttered that made them noticeably stronger.
The real test of strength came now as Edina's army pounced on Bardell, hacking into him with their savage weapons. However, their steel bounced off his armor.
"Stampeding Quake!"
Bardell charged through the undead, knocking them away and shattering them like glass. Wide swings of his axe decimated their numbers. He was heading right for Edina.
"Arise, bone brute!" Edina raised her most powerful summon. The hulking undead, with a greataxe of its own, collided with Bardell and stopped his stampede cold.
"Heh. You're stronger, but not that much stronger." Bardell sneered.
"Necromancer skills aren't all I have. Let's see if you're a premature ejaculator— Turn Horny!"
The spell landed, but it didn't take effect.
"You didn't think I'd come prepared to fight a succubus? Not this time. My armor is enchanted to resist enemy spell effects. You turning into a succubus was a waste!" Bardell shoved the bone brute aside and punted Edina across the arena.
"Edina!" Arenade jerked forward, but Kanae held her hand tight.
"You think that's all Edina's got?" Kanae grinned.
The squirreling picked herself off the ground and brushed the blood from her chin.
"A waste? We'll see about that… Legion of the Dead!"
The army of skeletal soldiers returned in full force.
"Your paper army is nothing to me. I'll just—"
Edina flashed a toothy smile. "Sacrifice Undead!"
As soon as the army of undead emerged, they collapsed upon themselves to feed Edina's signature spell. Their bones amalgamated on her like a suit of armor. The bone brute was next to go, offering the greataxe to its master before adding itself to Sacrifice Undead.
Now Edina stood several feet taller than Bardell.
"Come get some, bitch!" Edina shoulder checked Bardell, knocking him several paces away.
When Bardell retaliated with an uppercut from his greataxe, a second bone brute appeared to parry the attack.
"Another one?" Bardell growled.
Together with the bone brute, Edina laid into Bardell with heavy blows strong enough to chip pieces of his armor off. They knocked him around like a ragdoll.
"Rise, Legion of the Dead! Rip all that armor away for me!" Edina commanded.
They swarmed Bardell like ants, chopping away at the inner straps until his chestplate, shoulderguards, and helmet clattered to the ground and left him bare on the ground.
"No, stop!" Bardell cried, his show of weakness causing the Protectorate army to squirm.
"Me becoming a succubus was a waste? As if. After all, I can do this— Turn Horny!" Edina's succubus spell seized Bardell and made him twitch in pleasure.
The bone brute and smaller undeads pinned Bardell to the ground.
She shedded the skeletal armor and pranced up to him in victory. With a mischievous grin, she pressed the sole of her foot to his tiny erection.
"Is that what I think it is, Bardell? You're getting hard because of me. How's my small squirrely foot? Just the right size for your tiny prick, huh?"
"Huh?!" everyone on Kanae's side of the army blurted out.
"Is… Is that ratwhore doing what I think she's doing?" Arenade was the most appalled of them
"I-I think turning Edina into a succubus switched on the 'S' in squirreling," Kanae said.
Edina mercilessly tormented Bardell with a footjob, and he could do nothing but take it. The look of the Protectorates went from disbelief to embarrassment and finally settled on arousal. Even Estaline averted her gaze.
"Come on, stupid horse~ If you want to cum, I'm giving you permission to let it out all over my foot. Do it, you pathetic virgin with a dick smaller than my pinky finger!"

"S-Stop… I— aaahhh!" Bardell shuddered as he climaxed, soaking Edina's foot in ejaculate.
"How disgusting." Edina clicked her tongue. "I bet that's the most relief you ever got from a woman. Be thankful that I was kind enough to do that for you."
"Raaaauughh!" The centaur threw the undead off of him.
Edina backed away as Bardell became enraged, and the bone brute came to her defense.
"That's it… Attack! Kill them all and leave none alive! I want all the succubi kneeling in front of me before sundown!" Bardell roared to the Protectorates.
In a matter of seconds, the field fell into battle. Kanae and Arenade were jostled around by their own soldiers, pressing forward to the front lines. She carried the mother of her child safely into the air. It was pure chaos; they were already losing and being pushed back to Ehmvier.
"Let me down! I'm fighting with you!" Arenade exclaimed.
"No! You're getting out of here with Teana and Nelly. Leave the fight to—"
A bright flash of light in the sky put a pause to the battle and drew their attention to the hill.
"It's over for you now, demons!" Bardell shouted. "The Saint Priests will make short work of…"
The one who crested over the hill was Renya, wielding a smoking flintlock in each hand. She was flanked by Thedia and an army of her tri-dagger crew.
"Yo! I've come to fulfill my end of the bargain. Bardell, consider this my exit from our business arrangements. You can find my reparation fees for breaking our contract in your mailbox." Renya smirked.
"Renya… you scheming bitch!" Bardell snarled.
As Renya's raiders poured over the hill to join the fray, the Protectorates quickly lost ground while pinched between two forces.
Kanae used Bond on Arenade, Renya, and Edina, empowering them enough to stand toe to toe with Protectorate forces. She let the elven priest down at a safe distance, then returned to battle. A group of knights surrounded Kanae, and she used Titanic Blow to knock them off their feet.
Eventually, Kanae found a break in the battle where Estaline stood her ground against Sheeba and an army of beastmen. They lunged with their claws and fangs bared. The drakeling breathed fire from her mouth. Her attackers threw themselves to the ground to avoid being burned.
"Stay back, my queen! This one is powerful!" Sheeba warned.
"I know Estaline. Everyone stand down!" Kanae ordered over the clash of steel, then turned to the knight. "We don't have to fight like Bardell and Edina. We can talk this out instead!"
The drakeling scanned the battlefield in which the Protectorates were quickly losing ground. Renya blasted away dozens of soldiers at a time, and Edina's necromantic powers bolstered the Commonwealth forces.
"Kanae Toyomi, do you stand against Demon Lord Charron?" Estaline asked, pointing the giant slab of steel to her.
She nodded. "You bet I do."
One corner of Estaline's lips curved up.
"Very well. Protectorates and fellow knights of the order, stand down! They are not our enemy, and we have come to no man's land under false pretenses!" Estaline bellowed to her army.
As people stopped fighting, Bardell pushed through the crowds in a huff.
"What are you doing, Silver? Keep fighting!" Bardell growled.
"No," Estaline said. "I'm tired of turning a blind eye to who you truly are. I trust the Grand Eye and the Order, but I do not trust you. If you are all truly not Outriders in Protectorate clothing, then you will stand down on my command!"
The roar from Estaline's dragon ancestry made the blood in all who heard her curdle. Outriders among the Protectorates, scared of being outed as one of them, stayed quiet and obeyed her instead of Bardell.
"You're beat, Bardell. Better tell us what in three hells you're doing shacking up with demons?" Edina asked, surrounding him with a horde of undead.
"We would like to know as well. Please, kindly make way."
Both forces parted to make room for two female priests through. They were dressed in religious vestments, a robe embroidered with a golden cross and a single open eye at the intersecting point. One was a human woman, donning thick spectacles and sporting a black bob cut. She wielded a golden staff in which blue crystal was suspended between three prongs. The other was a drakeling like Estaline, but her scales were cocoa brown. Held in each hand was a flanged silver mace.
Estaline gasped and immediately fell to one knee.
"Delayn, look. Grand Eye was right. There really is a succubus here. Hells, there might be a dozen of 'em," the brown-scaled drakeling said.
"Ugh… Just looking at them gives me the creeps, Vestrid. Flaunting their buxom bodies like prostitutes. Even their eyes… they molest my body just looking at me," the human named Delayn spitefully remarked while clutching herself.
Bardell scrambled toward them for safety. "Saint Priests! You're here! Thank the Grand Eye. These demons—"
Vestrid smashed the side of Bardell's head with a mace and sent him crashing.
Delayn knelt down next to the twitching centaur with a look of deranged zeal. "You still haven't answered the succubi's question yet. Did you side with the demons? Have you betrayed the Grand Eye and the Order of the Knights of Colors? Answer the question, Knight of Emerald, Bardell. The Supreme One is watching, but it will be her grace, Analise, that hears you!"
"It's… not true… They are lying…" Bardell answered.
"Saint Priests, if I may? The succubus, Kanae Toyomi, has proof of Bardell's treachery!" Estaline exclaimed.
Both of them looked at Estaline first, then to Kanae, who whistled sharply. Her army made room for Lilith to lead Talon through, who was still leashed and collared.
"This is Talon," Kanae began. "Until a week ago, she was the chieftain of Talahurah. She and Bardell conspired with Lady and Minestra, who moved into no man's land from the demon domains. Sheeba has a letter to prove it."
Sheeba hesitantly handed the letter over to Delayn, whose foot was still pressed to Bardell's head. The human woman glanced over it for a few seconds, then gestured for Vestrid to march over to the disheveled Talon.
"If I ask her, I assume she'll corroborate the letter?" Vestrid asked.
"That depends. Are you more open-minded than Bardell?" Kanae returned cautiously.
Vestrid let both maces drop to the ground and folded her clawed hands together.
"Greater Dispel! Zone of Absolute Truth!"
The moment Vestrid uttered those spells, Kanae felt her Bond connection to the others severed. Even the summoned undeads around them vanished, which left Edina confused. She must have done it to remove any potential charms they suspected were put onto Talon.
"Did you and Bardell collude with the demon lieutenants, Lady and Minestra?" Delayn asked from afar.
Talon swallowed hard and answered, "Yes. We wanted to… claim no man's land and its resources for Charron… in exchange for a piece of the pie. It was… Minestra wanted to use Bardell and the Protectorates to do so."
"No, that's not true!" Bardell cried.
"Silence!" Delayn ordered, but what she uttered turned out to be a spell that actually rendered him mute. "As the right hand of the Grand Eye and with the powers vested in me, I hereby strip you of the mantle of Knight of Emerald. We will hold a trial to find a fitting punishment for your collusion with demons back in Radevic, Bardell."
"As for you, demon, your presence still cannot be tolerated so close to the kingdom." Vestrid picked up one mace and swung for Kanae's head—
Until Estaline parried it with the flat side of her greatsword.
"Silver, what is the meaning of this?" Delayn asked.
"With all due respect, Saint Priests. Kanae is the queen of the Commonwealth of Sin. Attacking her would draw us all into a war when our true enemy is Demon Lord Charron," Estaline explained.
"Even so, the Grand Eye sent us to find—"
"Me?" Will asked, stepping out from the crowds to their surprise. "You can tell my sister I'm fine. If you wish to use Greater Dispel and Zone of Absolute truth on me to find out if I'm here of my own volition, please do so. However, as a citizen of the Commonwealth, know that taking me against my will may be seen as an act of kidnapping. Not a good look for Radevic, I imagine."
Two Saint Priests had come here on their own. Without an army. It went to show just how strong they were that the Grand Eye was confident these two could handle themselves. They might even be able to defeat both armies if it came down to it.
A smile creased across Kanae's face. Today was one close call after another, but everything fell into place.
"Saint Priests, I want you to extend a message to the Grand Eye. I, the Queen of the Commonwealth of Sin, want to form an alliance with Radevic. Since we defeated Bardell and revealed that he was a traitor to the order, that leaves the title of Knight of Emerald vacant. To prove that neither I nor my country means any threat to her, I wish to join the Knights of Colors."
Gasps erupted all around. Even Estaline, surprised by the declaration, glanced over her shoulder to meet Kanae's eyes and chuckled at the determination.
"Nonsense!" Delayn huffed. "You're not even a citizen of our kingdom. A demon, especially not a succubus, is fit to become a knight!"
"On the contrary," Estaline began, "there is nothing in the Order's commandments that states a demon cannot become a knight."
"I also am a citizen. I even have land ownership in Lograin to prove it," Kanae added with a snide grin. "What will it be? I'm sure the Grand Eye would benefit from having the Commonwealth, a country serving as a buffer zone between her kingdom and the demon's domains, as an ally. Or would you rather come to a decision without consulting her and make an enemy out of my entire country?"
"Knowing Ana, she won't be pleased if I became her enemy by proxy of being a citizen of the Commonwealth," Will said.
Vestrid cast a bemused shrug to Delayn, who was on the verge of throwing a tantrum.
Delayn pouted, stomping on the unconscious Bardell in anger. "Ahhh! Fine! Fine, fine, fine! We will deliver your message to the Grand Eye. Pray, succubus. That we return with good news instead of with orders to stamp out your depraved kind a second time. Come, Vestrid! Estaline, pick up Bardell and let's get going!"
"Estaline!" Kanae called out to her as she turned to leave. "Thank you."
The drakeling knight paused and placed a hand up to her chestplate, then smiled.
"No. Thank you." Estaline nodded.
