Kanae awakened in the afternoon feeling like he had won the lottery. Meanwhile Arenade and Edina, who were both lying naked and face-down on either side of him in bed, were as still as corpses like they were waiting to be carried off on stretchers.

"I'm ready to tackle a couple of quests today! Anyone else?" Kanae asked his bedridden companions.

"Nope," Edina groaned into the pillow. "Not after you blew out my back again…"

"Make that double… Can you call a healer for us? Also a masseuse and breakfast delivery," Arenade added.

"You are a healer." He rolled his eyes.

It wasn't looking like either of them were getting up after having been so thoroughly drained. Kanae walked over to Arenade's side of the bed and stroked her supple butt, causing her to shudder from his touch. Just the slightest pressure sunk all five fingers into the fat.

"Sure you don't want to get up? You're starting to put on weight. Not that I mind," Kanae teased.

Arenade pushed herself up by the elbows and gasped so hard, Kanae thought she swallowed her tongue.

"You take that back!"

Kanae seized the opportunity to pinch Arenade's chin and plant an ever so gentle kiss that made her blush like crazy, as well as deflated the pouty cheeks. She threw her face back down onto the pillow and stayed like that.

"You're… not mad?" Arenade asked.

The whole incident seemed to still bother her.

"At the time? I was furious," Kanae answered truthfully. "But you came through in the end, and that's all that matters to me. I'm just happy to have you back."

When Arenade faced Kanae's way, her expression softened.

"H-Hmph. I suppose traveling with a succubus isn't so bad. One such as myself would not deign to betray her promises. You also better keep your end of the promise about helping orphans in Lograin!" Arenade loudly reminded him.

"I haven't forgotten. Starting with the 100,000 gold Edina owes me because she bet you wouldn't come crawling back." He grinned.

"Kicking a squirrel while she's down? Screw you, go and claim the gold yourself." Edina flipped two birds at him.

After Kanae got dressed, he tried to spur his companions back on their feet.

"Last chance, you two want to come with or not?" Kanae asked.

Neither of them answered. Instead, they both pretended to be asleep by fake snoring.

"In that case, why don't you two have at it for a couple of rounds? Make up by making out and feast on the creampie I left inside you." Kanae casted a charm on them, compelling Arenade and Edina's bodies to move on their own to passionately embrace each other.

"H-Hey, you can't be serious! With the ratwhore?!" Arenade cried.

"Oi! I'll get you back for this, Kanae! I don't even like this cowtit— mmph… chuu…"

Kanae left just as they became too tongue-tied to protest.

Downstairs, adventurers recognized Kanae immediately. Being popular before coming to the city already anyway, after opening the doors of the Eminence of Sin and giving away Sexy Slime Goods sex toys, many people were becoming more and more familiar with him. They initiated conversations, talked about their latest quests and trophy kills, regarded him with smiles, and even invited him to sit at their tables.

Though Kanae was sure most of them just wanted to sleep with the 'Slut of Orturic'. Oh, well. You won some, and you lost some. These nicknames weren't so bad anyway.

"Mama!"

Kanae froze on the way to the quest board and did an about-face. Thedia was carrying Teana into the adventurer's hall.

"What are you doing here? Are you crazy?" Kanae asked in a hushed and urgent tone.

"I'm terribly sorry, but I do not have control of my body at the moment," Thedia said.

Only now did Kanae notice Thedia's movements were stiff, signs that she was acting against her own will. His eyes fell to the only other culprit. A tear rolled down his cheek, absurdly proud that Teana had it in her to charm now.

"Awww. You charmed Thedia because you wanted to see me?" Kanae picked up Teana and overpowered the charm over the maid with one of his own to free her.

"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Thedia chuckled. "Again, my apologies. I will bring her back—"

"It's fine. I wanted to do some quests, but that can wait. I'll take Teana for today. I think we're due some bonding time. Isn't that right?" he asked his daughter.

Teana nodded fiercely and pumped her fist towards the door.

"Very well. I shall return to the church unless you would like me to accompany you two," Thedia offered.

"Hmm. How about you look after Arenade and Edina for me? They're upstairs in our room having a little spicy time," Kanae said.

"It shall be done." She bowed and headed upstairs.

Together with Teana, Kanae exited the adventurer's hall. The little girl's eyes were full of wonder and excitement. She giggled at every little thing from horse-drawn carriages clopping by to merchants hollering to potential customers.

"Okay, Teana. If we're out here, we have to be careful. No doing what you did to Thedia. Understand?" Kanae put on the 'parent voice' his mother used to give him all the time as a kid.

"Okay…" Teana hung her head.

"Mama's actually really proud of you! You're growing up to be a big girl really fast, so we have to follow big girl rules now," he added.

Hearing the praise cheered Teana right up. The short, pointed ears she inherited from Mitty became perky again.

"Horsie!" Teana waved to a black stallion tied to a hitching post.

"That's right, Teana! Good girl!" Kanae cooed, kissing her chubby cheek.

There was a slight problem. Teana was a goblin. Although her wings and tail were hidden underneath a coat, the horn nubs were still very visible. People were giving them a bad look. Some who passed by either made a wide berth around or pinched their nose shut.

Thankfully, Teana was blissfully ignorant about it all. Kanae tried to ignore it for her sake.

"Kanae, is that you?"

Talis stuck a hand out from a busy side avenue full of vendor stalls and perusing crowds. He was accompanied by Shatiel, the Spellbreaker and shy elf of the trio.

"Talis, Shatiel! Not with the other two today?" Kanae glanced up and down the road, expecting the clingy girlfriend treatment.

"I could ask you the same of the necromancer and paladin. But no, Jannie and Clara are taking time off. It's just me and Shatiel today, but I see you are with a… is that a goblin?" Talis reluctantly asked.

He and Shatiel stared hard at Teana, who started playfully reaching for them.

"This is my daughter, Teana. Teana, say hi to Talis and Shatiel. They're mama's friends."

"As in… adoptive daughter?" Shatiel asked now that Talis had gone speechless.

"Teana's my real daughter! She's half-goblin and half-su— human." Kanae cleared his throat.

They stared even harder until Talis snapped out of it.

"Kanae, you poor thing!" Talis gasped and placed a consoling hand on his shoulder. "It must have been a terrible ordeal for you to face goblins, but you're a truly brave woman to bear the responsibility of raising this baby."

"Wait, I wasn't raped if that's what you're thinking. It was consensual. I had sex all night long with a cute goblin boy named Mitty. It was so good that we had a baby together!" Kanae exclaimed, fondly remembering his goblin lover's tender embrace.

Talis went pale and his lower jaw unhinged.

"Hehe. Teana's really cute— Waah!" Shatiel played peek-a-boo with Teana, who erupted into laughter every time.

They went their separate ways, and Shatiel had to drag the despondent Talis away by arm. Those two were probably the only ones in the immediate area who didn't care that Teana was a goblin.

"Mama… hungry," Teana said, slapping Kanae on the boobs.

"There's no way I have any more milk in them. Your teeth are growing out. How about we buy you some food? Do those skewers look tasty?" Kanae pointed to a vendor fanning meat skewers smoking over a fire.

Teana didn't answer. The drool slipping down the side of her mouth said everything. They headed over to the vendor which was manned by an elven man whose hair was pulled into a tight ponytail.

"Excuse me. How much for six skewers?" Kanae asked.

The elf's eyes lit up from seeing a customer, then narrowed at Teana in Kanae's arms.

"I ain't serving no goblin," he said.

"You're serving me," Kanae coldly corrected him. "You're really going to turn me away?"

The elf wasn't budging. He folded two meaty arms across his chest.

"That's right. Take your goblin and get outta here. That little dung-licker's stinking up my stall. I got other customers to serve!"

"Uu…" Teana started tearing up.

"That's really kind of you to give us free skewers." Kanae glared at the elf, charming him under the cover of the awning.

"Yeah, no problem. Please come again!" The elf eagerly handed over six skewers of glistening meat.

They found a brick half-wall from a raised garden bed to sit on and eat at.

"Mama… is Teana stinky?" Teana asked seriously, lower lip quivering from the elven man's insult.

"What? No, you're not stinky! The elf was angry because he's the stinky one. You smell just fine, like fresh flowers." Kanae buried his face into Teana's hair and made a mess of it.

Kanae gave Teana one skewer at a time and watched warmly. Her ears fluttered like the wings of a bird as she ate. It was hard to believe he was the one to make this cute little thing.

By the time Teana was done, her face was smeared with oil. Luckily, it was nothing a nearby fountain and handkerchief didn't solve. He wiped Teana's entire face down, and when he pulled the handkerchief away, she flashed back a toothy and beaming smile with the radiance of the sun.

Across the fountain, Kanae caught sight of a group of priests in the Church of One robes and clicked his tongue. He had hoped in a city this big, the crowds would have provided enough cover to himself and Teana. Anyone working directly with Bishop Rudo or who had seen her face that day saw them now, then it spelled trouble.

"Let's not stay out for too long, Teana. How about we go home and see Aunt Edina and Aunt Arenade? They should be up by now," Kanae said, kneeling down to fix the hood's cowl to cover more of her face.

The goblin girl's ears sagged, and her eyes began to moisten.

"Teana wants to keep playing with Mama! Does Mama… not want to be with Teana?"

"No, Teana. That's not true at all!" Kanae tried to tell her.

"But Mama left Teana and Papa… Don't want to be alone again…" Teana mumbled, pressing her fingers together.

"I know, and I'm so sorry. I promised to never leave you alone again, remember? But right now, we don't have time to talk about this. We need to get home before someone sees us— er, that's not what I meant! I mean, it's getting late and there are bad people that come out at night!"

It didn't look like Teana fully understood what Kanae had meant, but she quieted down. He lifted her into his arms and headed back to the adventurer's hall. Since the priests were coming down from where they had come, leaving through the opposite way and sticking to the alleys might be for the best.

Kanae entered the less traveled back roads behind houses that were mostly ridden in filth, sparsely populated by the homeless that didn't want to be seen by the rest of the city. They were about to reach the other end when an unsavory gang of thugs dragged a struggling man into the alley.

One of them, a tall beastman with a strong jawline and wolf features, took notice of Kanae. So did the rest of them, and the poor man took the chance to run off.

"Wait a minute. I know you! You're that chick from the church. Look alive boys, we got a new fish to fry. And lookie what's in her arms. What's so important about that goblin, huh?"

"Hide behind a crate," Kanae whispered, letting Teana down and turning a livid gaze to the thugs. "If you want a prayer session with me, then you better get on your knees."

They made the mistake of getting close and surrounding Kanae. Once the four of them were within range, he casted a charm that only succeeded in taking effect on three of them. The beastman wasn't affected, meaning he had to be higher in levels. Which was fine, since—

One of the goons kicked their leader's feet out from under him, and the other two followed up by piling into a beatdown.

"Hey, hey! What gives— stop! The three hells' wrong with you numbskulls!"

While they were fighting amongst themselves, Kanae backed away from the scuffle.

"Alright, Teana. Let's go!" Kanae peeked over the only crate that was behind him.

Teana wasn't there. His heart dropped into the pit of his stomach.

"Teana!" He raced up and down the alleyway, but Teana was nowhere to be found.

Where? Why? Kanae didn't understand. Everything was happening so fast. Maybe someone had snuck up from behind and took her? But he didn't sense anyone. Did that mean Teana ran off on her own?

With the fighting going on at one end, there was only one direction Teana could have gone. Kanae raced down the alley back to the market avenue and ran into a wall of people.

"Oh, no… No, no, no… Teana? Teana!" Kanae called out, only to receive odd looks from passersby.

The first place Kanae thought to check was the skewers. Maybe Teana was hungry and wanted to eat. Once he got there, however, the elven vendor was in the middle of packing up to leave.

"You again? Looks like you took my advice and put the goblin away, but sorry. All outta skewers. Try again tomorrow," he said.

"Did you see her come through just now?" Kanae grabbed him by the apron strap and didn't hesitate to put him under a charm spell again to get answers.

"N-No, I haven't!"

Kanae let him go and walked to the fountain where they had talked before leaving. No signs of Teana anywhere here either. He slumped down and pressed both hands to his face. This city was too big to search on his own.

What was the best course of action here? Go back to the others and ask for help? Or maybe Renya's crew would be willing to lend a hand…

"Teana… Where did you go?" Kanae asked while on the verge of tears.

"Kanae?" Shatiel's voice drew his attention. The elf girl was holding Teana, whose face was buried into her shoulder.

A wave of relief whisked Kanae back to his feet.

"Oh, thank god… Shatiel, I owe you my life!" Kanae exclaimed.

"Talis and I were about to leave when we saw her running down the street. Teana was crying her heart out," Shatiel said, then lightly bounced the girl in her arms. "Look, Teana. It's your mama!"

Whimpering, Teana reached for Kanae and held on tightly.

"Why did you run away?" Kanae asked.

"Teana… didn't want to bring Mama trouble anymore…" Teana rubbed her tear-stained face into his chest.

Kanae sighed.

"You don't bring me trouble. Ever since you were born, I only wanted to keep you safe. You bring nothing but happiness to me. I'm sorry I left you behind, it won't ever happen again. So promise me you won't leave mama behind either."

"Mm!" Teana nodded, shaking too much to say anything else.

This must be how motherhood feels like. A lot of work, but just as worth it.

"I still can't thank you enough, Shatiel. How did you find her anyway?" Kanae asked.

"Well… truth is Talis wanted to keep following you two after we first ran into you. We were going to leave when we saw you leave, but then Teana came running down the street crying," Shatiel explained.

"H-Hey, you promised not to mention that! I was just worried, okay?" Talis exclaimed from afar.

After promising to repay Shatiel and Talis back one day, Kanae returned to the adventurer's hall with Teana. Arenade, Edina, and Thedia were eating together in the restaurant area when they got back.

"Come here, you little munchkin!' Edina pulled Teana onto her lap and had a pair of skeletal summons rattle their rib cages to the little goblin's delight.

"What were you two up to all day?" Arenade asked, a mouthful of food muffling her words.

"Just a little mother-daughter date." Kanae smiled.
