“Finally…” Angelica’s head was slumped on her desk as the dismissal bell chimed loudly through the classroom speakers. “I’m going to die of boredom if this goes on…”
I inadvertently sighed upon hearing her grumbles and squeezed her shoulder. “Come on, let’s go get some food together before the start of the rehearsal. Liam is already waiting for us outside.”
“Huh…? What rehearsal are you talking about?”
“Didn’t I tell you just now? The Student Council is having a dry run for the talk tomorrow, and you agreed to come along.”
“Oh…what a pain, I don’t wanna go anymore.”
“You—” I pinched her cheeks and forcibly dragged her out of her chair, ignoring her loud protests. “Liam, I need some help here!”
“Okay, okay, I’ll go!!” Angelica made a face and followed me and Liam down the stairs to the canteen. Since we were one of the last few to arrive, the canteen was already brimming with students and teachers queuing up to buy lunch.
“Man, I wanted to eat bak chor mee, but the queue is way too long.” Liam sighed. “I think the nasi lemak stall’s queue is still okay…what do you two want to eat?”
I took a quick glance around at the canteen stalls and gestured at the chicken rice stall. “I’m going for the stall that has the shortest queue.”
Angelica hesitated briefly before joining my side. “I’m having whatever the He—I mean, whatever Avery is having.”
“Mm, sure.” Liam nodded his head. “There’s no need to wait for me once you get your food, I’ll meet you guys at the secondary school side.”
Once we parted ways, I headed towards the chicken rice stall and joined the queue of three students waiting to place their orders. Angelica looked around at our surroundings before nudging me slightly.
“Is it just me or are we attracting a lot of attention?” she whispered.
“Hmm?” I glanced in the direction where she had been looking at and met the eyes of several students sitting at one corner of the canteen; once they realised I was staring at them, they hastily averted their gazes and ate their food in silence.
“They are from the lower-ranked classes,” I said with a dismissive shrug. “Perhaps our presence is unpleasant to them.”
Angelica frowned. “Is that so…”
After we bought two packets of chicken rice from the stall, we made our way to Coast Secondary School, our sister school which shares the same campus as Coast Junior College. Since Coast Junior College is considered a prestigious institution with a low cut-off point, most parents would enrol their children in the secondary school first to get a priority admission into the junior college.
“That means, we’re their seniors in a way?” Angelica asked curiously as we walked along the corridor leading to the school hall, passing by groups of students who directed curious glances at us.

“Yes, so please don’t embarrass yourself during the rehearsal,” I said with a wry smile.
She shot me a glare, but didn’t say anything in reply.
“Oh, you two are here,” Seraphine’s voice caught our attention once we entered the hall. “Hmm? Where’s the Vice-President?”
“Liam is joining us later,” I replied.
“We’ll start without him, then.” She turned to gesture at a brown-haired girl standing against the red velvet stage curtains. “Therese, have the AV people finished setting up the sound system?”
The girl glanced up from her phone upon hearing Seraphine call out her name and nodded her head. “Ready to start whenever you are, senior!”
Wait, haven’t I heard this voice before? I pursued my lips in thought for a moment before murmuring, “oh, right…she’s that girl with the moonstone bracelet on the train.”
As if on cue, a melodic twinkling sounded next to my ear; Therese waved her hand in front of me and smiled. “Senior, we meet again! Do you still remember me? I didn’t know you were the Student’s Union President, it really shocked me, you know?”
I blinked before regaining my composure. “O-oh…yeah.”
“Do you think you can reserve a spot for me next year? I wanna get a leadership position…” Her eyes flashed over Seraphine and she chuckled. “Sorry, I guess I’ve talked too much. Here, this is your mic, and this mic is for…”
Therese stared at Angelica for a moment, suspicion flickering in her dark-brown eyes, before handing her the microphone with a forced smile. “...you, senior.”
“Thanks,” she muttered. “By the way, my name is Angelica.”
“Angelica. Hmph, fitting name, I must say,” Therese replied nonchalantly. “You certainly look like an angel from Heaven.”
“Huh? What are you—” she narrowed her eyes at Therese and dropped the microphone onto the floor “—y-y-you!”
I quickly turned to Angelica, alarmed. “W-wait, calm down, what’s going on?”
Her hair began to glow silver as she clenched her fists tightly. “S-she’s Lukterasia Von Ixin!”
