“Did you switch the lights and fans off before leaving?” I asked Angelica when she finally climbed down the stairs to the ground floor.
“Huh?” She tilted her head in confusion and blinked. “Do I have to?”
“Youʼre the last person to leave…and I reminded you to switch them off, you know,” I chastised. “Go back up and switch them off, Iʼll wait for you here.”
“N-no way, I just climbed down all the way here!” she cried, sulking. “Canʼt we just quietly leave and pin the blame on Seraphine tomorrow?”
“Sheʼll kill you for sure,” I pointed out with a wry smile. “And saving electricity is good for the environment, you should make it a habit.”
“Grr…oh, wait, I know!” She glanced around as if making sure no one else was within sight before snapping her fingers. Suddenly, a ball of aureate light shot out from her palm and zipped up the stairs so fast I lost sight of it almost immediately.
Blinking, I gawked at the smug-looking Goddess. “W-what did you just do?”
“Hoho, I’m glad you asked.” Angelica let out a haughty laugh and twirled a strand of dark ebony hair around her index finger. “I summoned my familiar to fulfil your request in my stead.”
“Ooh, how clever and ingenious you are.”
“I know, I know, thank you~”
“...” I shifted my gaze to the stairs and asked, “but why do you own a familiar? Are you a witch by any chance?”
“Who told you familiar spirits are exclusive only to witches?” she rejoined. “Anyone with magic can create one fairly simply.”
“Huh, I guess that makes sense…” I watched as the ball of light streaked back down and returned into her palm, glowing with a strange lifelike pulse. “Does it have a name?”
“Hmm, I never thought of a name for my familiar…I mean, I don’t really have to call a name to summon her. Do you want to name her?”
I thought for a while before smiling. “How does ‘Aurora’ sound?”
The ball of light bounced up and down slightly on Angelica’s palm; she stroked it gently and nodded her head. “She says she likes the name and wants to thank you.”
“Really?” I chuckled softly. “I’m happy that you like your new name, Aurora.”
Angelica closed her palm, absorbing Aurora back into herself, and opened her mouth to say something—but was rudely interrupted by a whirlwind of motion slamming into her side. Without warning, Therese drop-kicked the stunned Goddess onto the ground and shook her shoulders back and forth roughly. “ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR BLOODY MIND???”
“S-st-sto-op i-it!” She finally managed to push Therese off her and retreated hastily. “W-what in Heaven is wrong with you?!”
“What the hell is wrong with YOU?” Therese hissed tersely, dusting her hands off against her skirt. “I could feel your disgusting magic all the way from the other side of the world! Do you plan on announcing to the whole world that you come from up there?”
“Where did you come from?” I asked, bewildered by her sudden appearance.
She paused and looked up at me. “Oh, I just teleported to the source of the divine magic when I sensed it and, lo and behold, it’s none other than our dear friend Anthia.”

“You just teleported here without caring whether there’s bystanders around?” I said incredulously. “Aren’t you a little too reckless?”
“E-e-erhm…” Therese looked around at our surroundings and gave a nervous laugh. “Close call, am I right?”
Angelica shot her a glare that could probably kill mere mortals on the spot. “If I wasn’t such a merciful Goddess, I would have beat the living shit out of you and call it a job well done once you’re gone from this dreadful world.”
“For a ‘merciful Goddess’, you sure do have a wonderful filter on your mouth.”
“What does having a filter and being a Goddess have to do with each other?”
“It’s alright, Angelica doesn’t really handle sarcasm that well,” I whispered to Therese.
“...I’m speechless.” She sighed and grinned widely. “Are you going home now? We can take the train together!”
“Mm, I don’t mind.” I turned to Angelica, who had been purposefully keeping a distance away from Therese, and waved at her. “Come on, let’s go.”
“...” Angelica trailed behind me and caught up, not forgetting to glare at Therese one more time. “Where did you even teleport from?”
She met her eyes and remarked casually, “I was in Brisbane eating lunch and shopping, why?”
I spun around to face her in astonishment. “I—you were in Australia??”
Therese giggled upon seeing my shocked expression. “I can go anywhere instantaneously with my dimensional magic. It’s honestly so much more practical than someone’s ostentatiously destructive divine magic, if you ask me.”
“Imagine having magic that only allows you to run away like a coward,” Angelica retorted, sticking out her tongue at her.
“So, if you have dimensional magic and Angelica has divine magic…” I tilted my head to the side. “What kind of magic do I, Stefania, have?”
Therese and Angelica shared a rare glance of understanding before Therese said, “you have to ask Stefania that…all we know is that your magic was the first of its kind in Eltshion.”
“First of its kind?”
Angelica nodded her head. “Though Eltshion has many, many classes of magic, all of them are unique to the user—for example, itʼs impossible for Lukterasia to use my divine magic, and I cannot use her dimensional magic too. However, the Heroʼs magic doesnʼt conform to this fundamental rule.”
“Your magic belongs to a very rare, anomalous class called ‘transformation magicʼ,” Therese continued. “On its own, your magic cannot sustain itself and is harmless. But when someone else cast their magic, your magic can instantaneously ‘copyʼ theirs—and you can essentially use their magic against them. Thatʼs the best ELI5 I can think of right now.”
“W-woah…I didnʼt expect Stefania to have such powerful magic,” I said quietly in awe.
“Of course,” Therese snorted and poked me in the ribs, her moonstone bracelet jingling around on her wrist. “I wouldnʼt have allowed you to defeat me if you were anything less.”
