This train service will end at Jurong East Platform D.
“Man, there’s so much homework to do today…” Therese grumbled as she scrolled through her class chat on her phone. “Why did Vezilecia assign even more Math homework?! I even told her beforehand that I haven’t finished last week’s assignment, ugh…”
“To think that the Demon Lord is struggling in the same subject as me,” Angelica muttered, giving her a sidelong look of disgust. “This is totally unacceptable.”
“You know that you’re struggling in every subject, right?” I whispered in her ear.
“Shush, please.”
Doors are closing. With a hiss, the train doors slid close and the train pulled out of the station. Next stop, Choa Chu Kang. Change at the next stop for the Bukit Panjang LRT.
“Where’s your best friend, by the way?” Therese asked, glancing up from her phone at me. “That, uh, Liam guy?”
“Oh, Liam has tuition today so he had to go first,” I replied, then paused before asking, “what about Miss Faye? Shouldn’t she be with you wherever you go?”
“Vezilecia isn’t really my subordinate anymore, it’s up to her if she wants to be by my side.” She shrugged and leaned against the train doors. “Besides, she’s usually busy drafting up lesson plans and marking homework in the staffroom till evening, so I’d go home first before meeting her for dinner.”
“Oh, that’s interesting…” I nodded my head. “Being a teacher must be tough for her.”
“At least she’s earning money by teaching,” she said, letting out a small sigh. “I’m paying to subject myself to torture in school on a daily basis. Heck, I’m literally paying Vezilecia’s salary!”
I chuckled at her frustrated outburst, while Angelica raised an eyebrow.
“You know, I’m just wondering…” she said slowly, with a suspicious look in her eyes. “How does Vezilecia have her powers after reincarnating too? Did you do something?”
“Huh?” Therese snorted and gave a condescending chuckle. “If Heaven is so inept that you guys can let me slip past right under your noses, who’s to say I’m the only one?”
“H-how dare you?!”
This stop is Choa Chu Kang…change here for the Bukit Panjang LRT…Choa Chu Kang…
“Well, you can ask Vezilecia yourself the next time we meet,” she said, smiling. “Bye-bye, take care you two!”
“See you tomorrow, Therese.”
“Hmph.”
Therese stuck out her tongue at Angelica and slipped through the doors as soon as they opened.
“That demon…ugh!” She gnashed her teeth and gave a sullen pout.
“Alright, calm down, calm down,” I said in a soothing voice. “Here, put on these headphones and listen to some lofi music until we get off, okay?”
Good evening, thank you for travelling with SMRT. We wish you a pleasant journey.

Te-te. Angelica tapped her farecard on the gantry and rejoined me outside the station concourse. “Hey, look, that bubble tea shop over there is having a 1-for-1 promotion! Can we get one? Please?”
“Oh? Since when are you interested in bubble tea?” I murmured, glancing at the colourful promotion poster placed beside the store entrance as we walked in.
“What do you think I have been doing while you were unconscious?” she said, folding her arms in indignation. “I did a lot of research on human society and found out that milk tea with honey pearls is trending now, so I wanna try it!”
“Really…” I gave her a questioning look. “What did you use to do your research?”
“Oh, uh, this one app with a music note symbol on its icon? It was on your phone,” she said and added with a boastful grin, “I also know all the popular dances and challenges that you people do nowadays, hah.”
“Please don’t lump me with Tiktokers, I hardly use that app anymore,” I said with a groan. “Anyways, you wanted milk tea with honey pearls, right?”
“Mm, mm!” She nodded her head excitedly and turned to face the cashier. “Extra large, with add-on boba and 100 percent sugar, please.”
“You—” I suppressed a gasp and directed an incredulous look at her.
She caught my look and winked playfully. “Don’t worry, Avery. I’ll pay for the both of us.”
“You’ll pay?” I muttered as I ordered a medium earl grey tea latte for myself.
The cashier pressed a few buttons noisily on her machine. “Your total is $10.24. Payment by cash or card?”
“Visa,” Angelica said confidently without hesitation.
“Please tap your card against the reader,” the cashier said.
“Su-re~” She dug into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper…with an image of a credit card printed on it? Before I could even react and stop her, she waved the paper card in front of the reader and mimicked the ‘beep’ sound perfectly.
“Are you kidding me?” I hissed in her ear.
She shook her head ever so slightly and signalled for me to stay quiet.
“Uh, can you please try again…” The cashier’s voice trailed off as the machine began to print a receipt automatically. “Please give me a moment, I’ll prepare your order now.”
I waited till the cashier walked away from the counter before grabbing Angelica’s shoulders. “That worked? What did you do??”
“O-ou-ouch, can you not grip onto me so hard?” She winced and averted her gaze to the floor. “I watched your mum use this ‘Visa’ card thing to pay for groceries the other day, so I just created an imitation to use for myself…”
I shook her shoulders lightly. “Why didn’t you tell me you can do this sooner?”
She blinked in unfeigned astonishment. “Y-you aren’t mad at me for using magic openly?”
“Who would be angry over free money?” I gave a low whistle as I held the fake card up to the light. “As long as you don’t actively go about destroying the world, I’m fine with you using magic.”
“I see…um, can I have my card back? I want to buy my own phone on the way home as well.”
