Chapter 17: Chapter 17: the maid’s perspective

My name is... Lapis Lazuli. A direct maid of my lady Hela Lazuli. 

Even though we have the same surname, we are not siblings nor family. I am but a mere creation of my lady's tenant and was only created to serve.

My task after coming into this strange advanced world is to kill all evil spirits roaming around in this entire city.

This simple yet tiring mission was bestowed by my one and only creator. Maybe my lady only wants to clean her backyard or she only wanted a way to use her time but that didn't matter as I will always finish my mission when I deemed to do so.

The mission itself isn't dangerous nor hard, it is but a simple chore. The only thing that is making things hard and time-consuming is the sheer number of lower evil spirits. This may take a while to finish.

It took over 1 night just to get rid of a quarter of the evil spirits making it one of the biggest clean up I have ever done.

While I was doing this, I sensed my lady in the rectangular building seemingly going out.

I rushed towards the building with all of my speed till I get to my lady.

She is right now with someone that I do not know of while they are coming down in the strange rectangular box. He could be dangerous.

/My lady, I'm back/ I said telepathically.

/Was the mission... Harder than you thought of?/ My lady asked while making a stoic expression. I'm nervous.

/The number of evil spirits was unexpectedly high but they are by no means a threat to me./ I tried to answer confidently with a bit of nervousness inside my voice.

/Good... Work then. Don't follow us in the meantime. Just do your mission./ A shocking revelation.

Then it all leads to this situation where I am following my lady.

I don't want to disobey her but... Does my lady have any trust in me?

Ultimately I am still following her while killing evil spirits in the process. It's not like I'm worried about my lady, no, no, no. She can kill them all in an instant. I also trust her decisions but I still can't help but worry.

We entered this forest infested with low and some middle-class evil spirits. It isn't troublesome to kill them but the sheer amount of them is making me think twice.

Does my lady want to enter the forest? I knew it, those bastards are leading my lady into a trap.

I thought to myself but I swore that I will always protect my lady even if it means disobeying her orders.

"Spiritual body: 1st seal, open!"

I opened one of the seals of my power making me stronger than I was before.

By doing this, I may risk myself being discovered but if I want to cross over this forest of death I have to release one of my seals.

I entered as soon as my lady was far away enough. I also activated my enhancements on my eyes to see the flow of mana so that I could be alerted when an evil spirit appeared. This forest is just way too pesky and should be destroyed immediately.

"Tenant: Seal"

Two rectangular cards appeared in my hands with the power of sealing. 

This is my tenant, seal. It lets me seal any being in existence and any concept. I could also specify the sealing target by writing it inside the card.

The evil spirits' power is determined by this ranking.

1. Lower-class evil spirits: These evil spirits are only grudges that have no will but to roam around. These spirits are also known as pests towards society. 
2. Middle-class Evil spirits: These are evil spirits that are most common in our old world. They reduce their surrounding's karma making the people around them depressed, crazy, and much more.
3. High-class evil spirits: are known to lead evil spirits together to fight off the greater spirits. They also have decent intelligence but can't resist the urge to kill the one reason he was born.

There are more to these rankings but I doubt they would show up in this world as there are no magicians here.

The thing is I am feeling all of those three rankings in this forest which is disturbing. I better be prepared.

After walking for a few seconds I already found a lower evil spirit. A simple swipe was all it took to kill it.

Walking for about ten seconds again I again found a lower-class evil spirit. This may take a while.

I am right now following my lady protecting her from the shadows. If the two of her companion make a move then I'll immediately attack. The evil spirits earlier were... Tiring and disgusting at the same time. 

Based on their conversations, they seem to be going to their hideout.

But not even 5 minutes after being a bodyguard, my lady stopped and contacted me.

/Lapis... Don't follow us/ Eh? My lady already noticed me?

/argh, eh, ahem. May I know the reason, my lady?/ When did my lady become good at spiritual detection? 

/they... Already noticed you. You should just focus on your task/

/Those two?!!/

When did they notice me? I thought there were no mages in this world so how?

I then used my enhancement on my eyes to see if the two guys have mana or not.

The big guy has a mana core that is constantly absorbing mana. He doesn't seem to be overloaded by mana making me think twice about fighting him. His mana pool is also so big that it could be easily compared to one of the generals of the ancient king. This guy is no good.

What intrigues me the most is the other guy.

He wasn't as impressive as the big guy but there is something he has that the big guy, or maybe the whole universe doesn't have. A dual-mana core.

How is that possible?

A mana core is a place that is comparable to a heart. Having two mana core is like having two hearts in your body which is extremely uncommon or his body is just unique.

The two of my lady's companions have some kind of unique flow on their mana. It's like it's only there for absorption and not to conjure it. Nevertheless, they seem to be as dangerous as one of the fallen knights if they can use their mana.

/My lady, are you sure to follow these... Monsters?/ I asked her carefully.

/I... Do seem to trust them./ 

No, my lady isn't that careless, she could have a plan that involves them. What if my lady is trying to get them as allies? No, no, that seems to be too risky. Maybe my lady is trying to have them train her? Why did my lady think that they aren't bad people? Was it because of the essence of their mana? 

Oh, how could I forget, mana has essence in them that special people can see. My lady is one of those special people so maybe she got the information through her powers? As expected from my lady!

/I understand my lady/ I said respectfully before I stopped following them.

Getting their help in the war with the devils would definitely be the best thing we could get right now and my lady is already doing it.

My lady is really smart!

I thought happily as I massacre every single evil spirit in this forest with a happy face.
