I looked around the forest, and started to listen to my surroundings when I heard a low clicking noise coming from within the undergrowth. As soon as the sound made itself known. A ratkurn leapt from a bush and tried to attack me with its teeth. Immediately I smashed my fist down on its head killing it instantly when another one leapt from another bush. I pivoted on my left heel and used my right foot to send it flying into a tree.
“Why are these guys at the edge of the forest at midday?” As soon as I spoke my thoughts aloud I heard more rushing from deep within. “Well, I have an easy way to deal with these guys.”
I used my summoning magic to summon Kurneer and he let out an intimidating sound from his clattering teeth. This caused all of the 5 ratkurn that appeared to shrink in fear. The dire ratkurn “Kurneer '' that appeared caused all of them to bow down. At that moment I heard a rustling sound behind the other Ratkurn and a man in robes appeared with a familiar crest. Yes, it was the same crest that was currently adorned on my carriage.
“Oh, you are just as lively as they say! Yes you are truly wonderful! Just to think that the real one would be this amazing! Oh, forgive me my wonderful lord! I deeply apologize for my rudeness!” Oh great, it’s one of these creeps again. Just what do these bastards want from me?
“Hey, you shitty cultist!” I let my anger show on my face and after a veil of shadow appeared around me I was back in my more comfortable black robes. My fangs and crimson eyes out in the open.
“Just tell me what you want from me! I have had a rough time lately, and I won’t take kindly to you being a hindrance.”
“I would never be a hindrance to you! You are our true lord! You are the only one our current lord will not lord over! You are the great one! You are the very definition of what is beautiful in this world, for you see, our lord knew you would come back! Indeed, he would like to meet you! It is his life's goal! Again, I ask you to forgive my rudeness, for I cannot give our purpose right now. Our lord bid it a surprise to your personage!”
“A surprise?” The guy bowed down and then began to speak again. “Indeed, tonight the moon will be full, and the spectacle in the capital will begin. We were told we need to do this to break your first seal, you see…”
“First seal?” This guy was stating everything one sidedly just like that prince bastard, but I can’t kill him there is too much I don’t know. “What will happen when the first seal is broken?”
“I am afraid I was told I cannot say anymore, but I was told that you would be overjoyed.” I felt someone watching us from a distance, and I turned towards the direction of the source. In that instant the ratkurn and their cultist shown with light and disappeared.
I turned back towards the person watching us, and in that instant Rela appeared from the undergrowth. I knew it was her, but she could have waited until I gained any crucial information. “You should have waited for me to get any details I could from him.”
“Forgive me, master!” She said as she kneeled before me and continued to speak. “It is just that we can’t trust anything these cultists say. I have researched them a bit, and I still don’t know who their leader is. If I am permitted to be blunt…” She stopped her speech waiting for me to reply. “I will allow it.”
“I think that it would be better if you don’t associate with such a group, and it would be better if you don’t engage them until you gain some of your former power. I don’t know what I would do if you were to suddenly disappear again. Please, don’t ever leave us again!” She said as tears started to feel her eyes.
As I looked at her like this it was hard not to flow with the moment, and just accept her tears as real; however, the Rela I know is a great actor. But it doesn’t seem like she is acting currently. That is what is scary about this person though. Why would she ask me to not affiliate with the cultists? Could she be a member? She seemed to notice my thoughts.

“Master! Please don’t lump me together with those ungrateful pieces of shit!” Oh shit, she is angry at me now. Wait, what does she mean by ungrateful? Does she have a history with the cult? “Do you have some history with those people?”
“No I don’t!” She tried to deny it but the look on her face says otherwise. I pulled out a familiar weapon with twin serpents and they started hissing. Wait, is it me or do they look even more sinister right now? The intimidating aura they were letting out was shocking. I wasn’t the only one shocked. Rela had a fearful look plastered on her face.
“Now you will tell me the truth!” Her face that was fixed with fear suddenly started blushing? What the fuck is wrong with this person? She is still the same pervert as always? Even in the face of such intimidation. No this might be worse. She is now sweating profusely.
Quickly, I put away the weapon and she collapsed on the ground instantly. I went to check and apparently she was out cold. “Just what is going on? What is wrong with everyone?”
Am I the only normal one? Wait, come to think of it… Am I even normal anymore? “Whatever, I need to remedy this situation first.”
I remembered that I could use the shadow warping technique thanks to Ilya, so I grabbed ahold of Rela and teleported to her room at the inn and placed her back on the bed. Then I warped back into the forest.
“I need to investigate what is happening in this forest.” The moment I got here I could sense several ratkurn all at the edge of the forest, and deeper in there were also hundreds of forest wolves all gathered around. I could sense them all with my shadow expansion. There were humanoid figures in the center of the forest surrounded by different species of dire wolves. I could tell they were different species based off their mana signature. There were 5 different dire wolves in the center. “Just what are these cultists plotting?”
I was about to go immediately to the cultists when I heard a loud howl coming from the direction to the North of the capital. “Just what is it now?” Immediately I ran out of the forest and started to circle the capital to the north. I summoned Kurneer and hopped on him midway. When I finally got to the North side of the capital. The howling sound started to sound nearer.
The gate guards in the distance were petrified in fear as a familiar beast exited the forest just as the full moon started to shine over the far off mountains in the north. The familiar figure started to grin at the guards who brandished their weapons as well as the soldiers and knights that started to appear from behind the gate.
It became a staring contest as both sides just looked on at each other until eventually at the same time as an explosion from the south gate the beast let out a sickening roar and began its descent from the hilltop in front of the forest. He sprinted down the hill at a speed a normal human wouldn’t be able to follow with their eyes.
Cloaked in a veil of shadow he began to rip through the soldiers in the front. He clawed people in half, and mawed people's heads. A sword tore through the air at a speed most humans would find difficult to follow, and immediately that sword was bitten into pieces. Following that the poor soldier's head was split vertically by a single claw of the Lycan.
Meanwhile I was just watching in a daze trying to piece together what the hell was happening. The figure of the Lycan somehow felt nostalgic. I knew there were a few thousand Lycans in the game, but this one was different. It was a higher variant and the strongest kind. The people that knew of the Npc from the game that was before me currently would fear him when they raided my castle. The community gave him the name “Devourer”, but the name I gave him was different. I found myself grinning.
“Welcome home, Lucien.”
