"Your name is Erevyn correct?” Aria and I left the estate and started to follow the girl who delivered the letter from the warehouse. “That is right, but we must hurry. The queen doesn’t like to be kept waiting.” Queen? Oh, I suppose she was at one point. I have only ever known her as “Eliah the Immortal”. Pretty much every noble reads that book, but I am sad to say I don’t remember the contents very well.

“What does she want from, my lord?” Aria asked while we were following. She was glaring at Erevyn’s back. “I don’t know, but she saw the beastkin in their cages, and I have not seen her that angry in a while.” I started to look down. If she would have my life for the atrocities committed in this kingdom, then I would accept. I just hope she will listen to me. Maybe I can get her to save this whole kingdom. She actually has the power to do it.

We finally got to the warehouse, and we were led inside by Erevyn.  To my surprise, all of the guards were dead, and the beastkin were out of their cages. I looked around to see a little girl with blue hair, a maid, and a girl with the eyes of a dragon. Eliah was nowhere to be seen.

I walked back into the warehouse to see the fat lord of this city standing there. When he looked at me I could see the fear in his eyes. His maid beastkin was standing there just glaring at me. How strange? She must have Stockholm syndrome if she is willing to enter that fighting stance to protect scum. Now that I had calmed down it was a good chance to ask questions.

“Can I kill this imprudent human who doesn’t kneel before your greatness?” Ilya spoke up from beside me. “No, you will not…” I looked over to the lord of this city and his maid. “...Well?” I pulled out my sword staff and banged the bottom against the ground. The aura coming from me and the staff caused everyone in the room to become restless. Even the beastkin we had saved from their cages were now looking at me with fear. Everyone in the room immediately kneeled down, and I smiled. I found myself reveling in this feeling. What is this? The last ones to kneel were the lord and his maid.

“I find your current posture adequate. Now what are your names? I assume I don’t need to tell you my name?” They nodded their heads swiftly. The maid glared at me as she lifted her head to speak for the lord who was cowering from doing anything. “This is lord Marqus Solus, a duke of this kingdom, and I am a humble servant, Aria.”

I noticed that Emma was on the side breathing heavily, so I quickly put the sword staff back in my shadow. This caused almost everyone to heave a sigh of relief. “Haa, it is tiring having to deal with you people who lose their minds at the mere sight of a weapon.” I noticed Emma flinch and then look up at me with tears in her eyes. Immediately, I felt bad for what I said, but it was too late. This was me putting on an act anyway. I would just apologize later.

“M-my g-goddess? May I be excused?” I nodded my head at her. Then she left the warehouse and went outside. “I shall go with her, master.” Rela said then followed her outside as well. “I must say, I am surprised.” Marqus opened his filthy mouth. “Yea, and why is that?”

“I didn’t expect for you to have a shred of compassion. I didn’t expect for you to show humanity…” Humanity? Is that where compassion comes from? Because when I look around, I don’t see it. “Don’t judge me by human standards. Humans are the scum of this world. I don’t know why I haven’t just wiped them all out. Everything I have seen from them since coming to this… place has made me question why they still breathe. They take up the valuable air that other creatures need to live on this planet.” I don’t know why but even if I was a human in my past life, I didn’t want to be associated with them. Especially when I had witnessed what they had done to the beastkin.

The more I thought about it the more my anger was threatening to resurface until Marqus said something I didn’t expect. “It may very well be as you say, unfortunately. The task of freeing all of the slaves was too daunting for me. My life may be over now, but I would like to request something of you.”

“My lord!” Aria yelled out from the side of him. “Silence! This is something that must be done!” Marqus yelled out, but I was still confused about everything he had said. Free the slaves? Hadn’t he and this country put them in the cages? Even the other beastkin were looking at him with confusion plastered on their faces. Free the slaves?

I felt my core building with confusion and rage. “What do you mean to free the slaves? Weren’t you the one who put them in the cages!?” Instead of him speaking it was Aria. “My lord would never do such a thing! He saves us! He saved me… If you want to take any life, take mine!” I stared at her fixedly, but she didn’t appear to be lying. I looked at the other beastkin, but they still looked confused.

“Will you listen to my story? Then you can judge me however you want.” I looked at Marqus then I gestured for him to get on with it. “Very well, but keep it brief. I am a very busy girl afterall.” He nodded his head then he started to spill his backstory. It was not brief in the slightest, but I allowed him to speak until it was finished. What I learned was surprising. His mother had died to bandits, but his father was saved by beastkin. His father took his own life, then Marqus vowed to free as many slaves as possible. So far he had freed 12 slaves which were all serving as his servants.

Maybe someone else would just easily accept his words, but I had no way of knowing whether he was lying or not. He didn’t appear to be lying, and when he finished he spoke words I hadn’t expected. “If you must end my life… I just ask that the beastkin here as well as the rest of the beastkin in this kingdom can find peace. That is all I ask of you.”

I didn’t know how to answer his sincere request, so I decided I would let the very beastkin of this kingdom judge him in my stead. I was about to answer when I saw Rela come running back. When she got back she had a face twisted in what could only be described as sorrow.

“Master, I have terrible news!” She yelled out. What the hell could it be this time? “What is wrong? Rela? Where is Emma!?”

“That is the thing, master. Emma… She is gone…” Immediately, I spread my shadow back out over the whole city, but I could not find her. How the hell did Rela lose Emma? That should not be possible! My rage was starting to be directed towards Rela this time. “How could you lose her!?” To my question she just looked down with a grimace on her face. I felt my core filling with anger. Where could she have gone? Did she run away from me after all? The rage inside was starting to lose direction. I didn’t know who to be angry at anymore.

‘Are you angry?’ I heard a voice inside of my head, that of a dragon. ‘Yes’ I responded. ‘What do you want?’ I just wanted Emma to be back here right now, so I could apologize to her if I was the reason she left. ‘Just destroy everything, and you will get Emma back.’

“Destroy everything?” My back started heating up then I felt something pop within my core, and pain flooded my back. I hit the floor on my hands and knees, doubling over in pain. I heard people speaking to me, and I saw the worried expressions on their faces. Then my vision started to be painted red, and I started to lose control of my body. 'You need to calm down!'
