“...Rela?...Just how? No, why? I don’t understand. Your actions… Your personality… Nothing makes sense.” I felt the damn in my eyes about to break. I don’t understand anything. Was the way she acted…Was everything she did just a lie? Why would she not confide in me sooner? She got up from her kneeling position and started to walk over towards me, but I took a few steps backwards and raised my arm.

“Stop! Aren’t you going to say anything!?” I found myself yelling at her. “Master, I apologize that I could not reveal my identity sooner, and I will not make excuses. You can do with me as you please, but I had to be sure it was you. If I must die by your hand then I will offer my life, for you have given me everything. It has always been my honor to be your most loyal servant. Ever since that day I had been waiting for Master, so If I must die at least it is by your own tinder hands.”

“No, No, No, No! Why are you talking about dying!? I never told you to die!...” I felt more tears start to pour out of my eyes. “What about that time you told me about shadow magic? What about that time you told me about myself? What about all of those times you pretended I was your savior? What about those times you tried to hug me? What about when you asked to join my party? What about all of those times? What about when you died right in front of me all those years ago? Was it all just a lie? What about when I died and came back here? Are you telling me I’ve been made to be a fool the entire time?” By the end of it my voice grew quieter, but I was running out of tears.

“M-master, I am sorry. I didn’t realize I would bring you such anguish. When I approached you, I couldn’t be 100 percent certain it was you. Based on your actions, you slowly started to reveal it to be true. Tonight there could be no doubt, when I witnessed your transformation, I knew it could only be master.”

“How would I be anyone different? Aren’t you my most loyal subordinate? Why did I do everything leading up to this point? Was there a purpose in my actions? While I was flailing my arms pretending to be a noble you showed up? You were right here in this city. Right next to the place I resurrected in. Isn’t that super convenient? I thought it was strange! A random idiot rogue decided to join my party on the first day they met me. It turns out the rogue was not an idiot, and they were making a fool out of me the entire time. Isn’t it because you hate me? You said I laughed at your death, so don’t you actually hate me? That’s right, how could anyone that I considered a subordinate actually like me? Don’t you actually just want to laugh at me?”

I looked up at her. I was no longer crying, instead I was just angry. She had started crying instead. Why is she crying? I can’t understand why she would be crying. She was the one making a fool out of me the entire time. Shouldn’t she be laughing? “Why are you crying!?”

“M-master…I..I am sorry. Please don’t say those things about yourself. I don’t want to laugh at you. I have always stuck by my master's side, and I have always treasured my master. Master should treasure herself, as much as I treasure her. Do you know how hard it was to wait for you all of those years? I spent so many years waiting for my master to show up. Master always told me to use my mimicry to gather information. Do you know how long it took to gather the information about where you would arrive? You never told me where the ring would place you, and you said that it would come at a cost. I didn’t think it would take away your memory. Do you remember the last thing you said to me?”

“No, and I don’t want to remember. All of this is already confusing. You probably don’t know, but I have different memories of you. The Rela I knew was completely different. Just like you won’t understand if I describe it, I can’t comprehend another me. You will just explain visions of the past, and I won’t be able to see it the way you do. Also, what will become of me if I can see it? If I start to gain all of those memories, who would I be? Even the ring that you are talking about was different for me.”

“Master, do you want me to leave?” When she asked me that I felt pain in my chest. Shouldn’t I be telling her to leave? Why do I want her to stay? I can tell that she cares about me, but it is also true that she tricked me all this time. I started to feel myself growing calm. It was at this point that I realized I was forgetting about something. “You will stay with me for now, but I have a job for you to do.”

She looked confused, but she soon responded after some of the light returned to her eyes. “I will do anything for Master Eliah. Please command me as you see fit.”

She quickly kneeled in front of me. I am not sure how to feel about that. I will just use this mission as a means to see what she is truly capable of. I pointed at Brin’s corpse. “Do something about that.”

“Yes, Master!” I decided I would watch her to see what she does. She walked up to the corpse, and pulled an ebony dagger out of blood that appeared in her left hand. I imagined it was a blood inventory just like my shadow inventory. Next she took the dagger and cut her palm with it. Blood started to drip on the corpse, and then I heard her chant “Blood Puppet”.

The dried blood on the ground started to liquify, and the corpse started to soak up the blood like a sponge. I also saw the gaping hole in his chest begin to repair itself. The corpse slowly started to lift itself up. Even the armor that I penetrated was repairing before my eyes. This would have been a disturbing sight for any normal person. The corpse was now fully standing upright, and the body was just as lively as when it was alive. “What did you do?”

“I used one of the spells Master Eliah taught me, ‘Blood Puppet’. While it isn’t as strong as the spell that you use to turn people into vampire subordinates, it can still be useful. The spell will copy all of their stats from when they were alive, but it won’t remember all of their techniques. Because I can control his demeanor and mannerisms, he will appear just as he was when he was living. The only way someone would be able to tell is if they were to fight all out against him.”

“I see that is a pretty useful spell. Now people would think that Brin was still alive, and we will be able to use him to gather information. You said I taught you this spell?”

“You developed the spell, Master; in fact, you developed a lot of spells like this one. I always admired the master for coming up with so many spell ideas. No one could ever outsmart the master!” If that was true then how would Leo even kill me in the first place? It’s not like I’ve been playing 4d chess. I remembered another thing that I forgot about.

“Ah, we didn’t collect the money from the guild today. I was sort of occupied I guess.” With that I actually laughed a little, and when I looked at Rela she was back to smiling. “Master, I had collected the money in your stead. Our total gain was 40 silver coins.”

Wait, she already gathered the money today? She also tailed me here, and she was able to deceive me without me knowing. Is it possible that she is actually way smarter than me? I think I might be the genuine bonafide idiot. I burst into another fit of laughter that quickly subsided. “Master?”

“Very well Rela you will continue to serve me! In fact, I permit you to continue to be my most loyal subordinate! I just realized how stupid I’ve been! My Own subordinate was playing 4d chess, and I was playing pong?” I saw Rela smile from ear to ear.

“Master, I will always be your servant, but master is not stupid! Also, I fear I don’t know what ‘pong’ is. Please forgive my ignorance.”

“It’s nothing you need to trouble yourself with, but we should probably head back. People will start to miss our new friend ‘the most famous adventurer’. Also, how are you able to survive in the sun?” I turned back into my disguise, and she did the same thing.

“You gave me several articles of clothing that allow me to walk in the sun. Master, to tell the truth I was confused that you didn’t use your shadow magic to appraise me to begin with. It must have been because you lost your memory that you forgot about the spell.”

“Yea…”
