I sat upon my throne of bones and gold-embossed leather, in deep thought. My cold, lifeless hands scratched my chin, I can remember it like it was yesterday, the time I threw away my humanity to become a Lich. I was a middle-aged man, yearning for knowledge. As I was fascinated by the mysteries of the world I resided in, though I knew the chains of mortality would hold me down. So I thought to myself, “If I was able to gain immortality, something that many beings yearn for, then I could live forever, uncovering all mysteries, old and new.”
So I searched for the key to immortality, wandering in the countless books I owned, overwhelmed by the stress of the fleeting time. My mind would shatter, then reassemble, an inescapable loop. But it was then I had realized something, after being in that loop that I oh so wished to escape from, that if life ends with death, could death end with life? If so, then truly what would you become at the end of that “death?” And so I thought within that loop of madness, coming to a conclusion. If there truly is a soul within the body, which leaves the world once the body dies, then you contain that soul, keeping it from leaving the mortal plane, creating simply, a life within death.
I sat at my desk, the minutes ticking away as I wrote down my theory on a square of fine paper. After many ticks of time had passed, I had finally dropped my pen, not in defeat of course, as I felt a smile creep along my face, staring at my complete work. All that I require is a phylactery, or so I had named it. It consisted of a certain magical stone called a Soul Stone, that I happened to have within my collection. And so I placed it within a box that I had made, along with many magical spells placed on it, protecting it from the most devastating of attacks. For it was so strong its only weakness was the digestive system of a Mimic, though it would take three whole days to be digested.
But that was not all. Despite the fact that I had the phylactery, the most gruesome part was after that. Next, I would be required to make a potion, or a poison of sorts, which I named; Elixir of Immortality. Its ingredients are quite gruesome, one of them requires me to take the life of a man, then acquire their blood once their life had been snuffed out. And so I set out of my humble little home, with a knife in hand. I hid myself away with a spell I had learned, one that allows me to be invisible to the untrained eye. Finally, I spotted my prey, a young, dapper man, with short, platinum blonde hair. I won’t go into detail, as it’s quite gruesome, so let us just say that I acquired the blood.
I placed my knife, which was now covered in a deep red, upon my desk. Yes, I did feel the tinge of regret and guilt that would naturally come with taking a life, but my thirst for infinite knowledge was much stronger. I was awfully tired since I hadn’t slept for three whole days, but I didn’t care to rest, as I was mostly finished, for all I had to do was simply wait for the moon to rise.

Night came, along with the splendid majesty of the full moon, that rested in the sky. It was a peaceful night, or so thought the residents of this humble little town. For me, it would be my last night in this body full of life. So, I sauntered outside, to a secluded spot in the forest. I then sliced my hand with a knife, using the blood to draw a circle on the cold ground. With the circle prepared, I took out the Phylactery and Elixir of Immortality, from my little brown bag. I placed my Phylactery in the middle of the circle, then faced it, Elixir in hand.
This is the part where people would realize that it isn’t worth it, and return to their dull life, just waiting for their time to come to an end. But for me, I didn’t hesitate, I had no one whom I called family, as my kin resented me for no apparent reason. So I consumed the entire bottle, its contents leaving a spiral of pain as it traveled down my esophagus. Smiling, the mad man that I am, shoved a knife through my own heart, my body collapsing on the ground, my vision growing dark..
A wealth of knowledge had suddenly erupted through my mind as I regained consciousness, which was from Eien’s Boon. With the new information, I looked at my hands, the skin, and flesh no longer there, leaving just the bones, I smiled, or at least I tried, as I had become a Lich, or that’s what the Boon had told me.
That night, a sinister laugh echoed through the forest, chilling the spines of any sentient being wandering in the forest.
Although I no longer had the flesh of a mortal, I still had the desire for clothing, A being such as myself still enjoys fashion, alright? And so I grabbed my Phylactery heading deeper into the woods, searching for a lair, and of course, clothing.
