The brutal silence between them resumed with Becca waiting for an answer, giving him time to respond but he didn't. Not even a word and it hurt.
Becca felt something in her crack and a teardrop glided down her face as her eyes squeezed shut. After everything they had shared, after opening up and letting Leo in, he was still hesitating to do the same even to this day.
Didn't he trust her? What was he scared of? Why doesn't he want to tell her? It fucking hurt, like a sharp dagger to her heart.
Leo made her fall madly in love with him, he got her to open up to him. He said he wanted to give her everything and have everything with her but despite that, he still didn't trust her to share anything with her willingly.
Becca wasn't just upset about what happened that afternoon, it also wasn't only Raquel's death that put her in such a foul mood, No. It was Leo, it was all him and his fucking hesitation.
She hated him for it, even at a time like this he still didn't see her fit to receive answers, and just the fact that she was being treated like this by the man she loved, made her burn with rage.
She moved furthered away from him on the bed and folded her knees, bringing them closer to her chest.
" I want to be alone." She muttered, staring at the room and Leo's heart snapped in two.
Shaking his head, he scooted closer to her. " No."
He raised his hand to touch her but she shot him a sharp glare, an angry one. Nothing like the playful kitten ones she used to give him. She was really upset.
Leo's hand froze mid-air and his eyes turned pleading.
" My love, I am truly sorry about the restaurant and your friend. I didn't intend for it to happen." Leo apologized, thinking it was the reason she was upset but didn't know that it was just one of the many reasons why she was fuming.
" Sure, you didn't intend all that but it was definitely your intention to keep me in the dark." Becca wiped her wet cheeks with her hands. "You intended to lie to me all this time."
" I would never lie to you."
Another lie.
Becca sniffled. " If that's the case, look me in the eyes and tell me why there was a crossfire in our restaurant and why Raquel was shot dead." Becca's sharp gaze burnt through Leo, weakening him.
He stared at her, his lips parted to answer but hesitated. " I—"
He faltered and Becca glowered at him.
" I thought as much," Becca said, getting off the bed and headed straight for the door.
" My Love, where are you going? You are still injured." Leo jumped out of the bed and went after her, grabbing hold of her arm before she even reached the door.
" Leo, let go of me." Becca tried yanking her arm away from his grip but all he did was wrap his other arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him, hugging her from behind.
" Never." He whispered and Becca's eyes moistened as she squirmed, jabbing his ribs with her elbows but still couldn't break free. He didn't let go neither did he stop her from hurting him. He deserved it anyway but one thing he wouldn't do is let go of her.
Becca huffed, she had completely worn herself out with her feeble attempts to escape his clutches and soon stopped struggling. Tears pooled down her eyes as she became static, trying to catch her breath.
" I don't even want to look at you." Becca whimpered, wiping her dampened cheeks and she shuddered as Leo lowered his head, touching the side of his face to hers.
" Then don't. You don't have to look at me, just don't leave." He whispered, making the hair on her neck raise as his warm breaths caressed her. Becca stirred in his embrace and Leo's arms tightened.
She shut her eyes, forced to remain in his embrace.
" Why should I stay with someone who doesn't even trust me?" Becca asked, opening her eyes, and Leo's brows wrinkled in confusion.
" Doesn't trust you?" Leo asked and spun her around to face him. " What are you talking about?"
" Am I wrong? You don't trust me. I don't mean anything to you."
Taken aback, Leo stared at her. " First of all, yes you are wrong." He moved closer until the space between them became nonexistent. " Second, you have no idea how much you mean to me."
Becca truly had no idea. She didn't know all the things Leo had done to have her by his side now. She didn't know all the decisions Leo made to keep her and most especially, she didn't understand how the mere thought of losing her drove him crazy. She didn't know all that and perhaps she didn't need to know. All that mattered was he loved her and she loved him, well at least he hoped she would after all this.
" So in other words, I mean something to you but not enough to know anything from your past?" Becca retorted, grimacing as though repulsed by his presence but Leo knew she wasn't. She was just angry and upset, she had the right to be but he still couldn't tell her anything. He wanted to but couldn't.
Becca was angry, frustrated, and sad, she didn't mean what she was doing or saying. Those emotions would pass soon enough but he knew the stories from his childhood would stay imprinted in her head, scar her if he ever opened up, just the same way it scarred him.
If she found out, Leo would go from being an angel in her eyes to being the monster his mother said he was. He wouldn't let that happen.
He encircled his arms around her again, staring down at her as she tried to nudge him away from her but with every push she gave him, the more he drew closer to her.
It hurt to know that just yesterday they were the sweetest couple, he even made love to her that morning but look at them now. Fighting, with Becca trying to tug his hands away from her. She never did that before, not even when Leo was still pursuing her and it hurt that she was doing it. The pain smeared him with corrosive acid, melting his soul.
" You know that's not true. I just can't give you what you want now." Leo's voice came out calm. Gentle, like he always was with her. " Even I need time."
Leo was only trying to buy himself some time, hoping that one day she wouldn't be so hung up about knowing his past. It broke his heart to know that day would never come, not with his Becca's inquisitive nature.
" Till when?" Becca asked, lifting her eyes to stare at his face but froze when her gaze fell on the blood on his shoulder. Her throat went dry.
How did he injure himself? Why didn't he clean his wound? He didn't even bandage it, what if it got infected?
Multiple thoughts ran unsystematically in Becca's head as she raised her hand to his shoulder. She recalled that he got injured in the restaurant but couldn't understand why he got her wounds treated and not his.
" Why didn't you get your wound bandaged as well?" Becca asked, not able to restrain herself from doing so.
" It doesn't need to be bandaged. It's barely even a wound." Leo joked and Becca shot him a glare. Thankfully, it was one of her kitten glares. Does that mean she wasn't mad at him anymore?
The answer to that question was no, Becca was still angry. Outraged even. But couldn't bring herself to ignore the gaping wound on his shoulder, especially when he was careless enough not to get it treated.
She gestured him to bend forward so she could get a better look at his would and Leo happily obliged.
She unbuttoned the first four buttons of his shirt, shifting away from the bloody area, and touched the wound delicately. A soft gasp escaped her lips when she saw how deep it really was, feeling the urge to smack him for his negligence but she curbed the urge and focused on his shoulder instead.
" Does it hurt?" Becca examined it, cursing herself for asking. It was a wound and it was still bleeding so of course it would hurt.
" It doesn't," Leo answered and Becca frowned when she saw the look on his face.
The man was grinning ear to ear like a drunk hyena. Perhaps it didn't hurt after all. But even if it did, how would Leo feel the pain when he was too busy savoring Becca's sweet butterfly touches on him.
Once she was done checking the injury, she grabbed hold of his hand and hauled him towards the bed.
" Sit here and wait for me," Becca ordered, going to grab the first aid kit and Leo sat and waited like he was told to.
Becca returned to him with hastened footsteps, a first aid kit in her hands and a worried look on her face as she stood in front of him.
Normally, Leo would have told her not to worry or that he could treat himself but he knew that the only reason she put their argument on hold was that she saw his wound and got worried. She was touching him and he didn't want it to stop so as pathetic as it made him look, he pretended to be in pain.
He faked a flinch, wincing as she disinfected his wound.
" If it hurt that much then you shouldn't have gotten yourself injured," Becca said and bit her lip when Leo looked up at her, making her recall that he got injured because he used himself to shield her from both the bullets and the shattering glasses. Luckily it wasn't a bullet wound but a cut. A deep one.
" Thank you," Becca muttered as she finished cleaning up the wound and picked up a bandage, feeling a little bad that she let the anger and sadness get to her.
" For what?" Leo asked, his eyes never leaving her even once.
" For protecting me back at the restaurant. I don't know if I would have made it out without you."
If it hadn't been for Leo, Becca knew the chances of her ending up like Raquel were very high. The sheer thought of Raquel and want happened that afternoon tightened the knot in her chest.
She shut her eyes for a few seconds and exhaled.
" I didn't mean for that to happen to you. I know you're angry and upset and I am really sorry." Leo said, caressing her cheeks and she couldn't hold it in anymore. She let him pull her closer and wrapped her arms around him, clinging on to him. Tears streamed from her eyes, smudging his shirt but he didn't mind and rubbed his hand on her back.
" I was so scared." She sobbed, pouring her eyes out. The experience was awful, so horrifying that Becca still didn't believe she was able to make it out.
" I know. I was scared too, I thought I was going to lose you." Leo soothed her back. Scared was an understatement when it came to describing how Leo felt that afternoon. " Are you still angry at me?" Leo asked, hoping that she wasn't anymore. He could take it if the whole world hated him but not her. He wouldn't be able to take it if she hated him so he sat in front of her with expectant eyes, praying that she cried out the anger as well.
Becca pulled away from his arms to look at him. " Yes." Becca asserted and Leo's heart dropped.
Becca swayed out of his arms and took out a bandage from the first aid kit, drooping it cautiously on his wound.
" When will forgive me then?" Leo asked as Becca finished working with the bandage.
" I don't know, Leo. Perhaps when you see me worthy of knowing about your past." She retorted, touching his bandaged shoulder. It wasn't her first time treating wounds as it was a skill she forced herself to learn in the past. Turns out it wasn't a waste of time after all.
" My Love, "Leo called out, running his hand up and down her arm as he stared at her with pleading eyes but she acted like it didn't faze her. Like she was numb and maybe she was.
" Get some rest, it's late and you don't look like you have gotten any sleep." Becca opened the rest of his buttons and drooped the bloody shirt off his body.
She then handed the shirt back to him and trekked towards the door.
" My Love, please. Where are you going?" Leo asked, getting up to go after her.
" I can't sleep next to a man who doesn't even trust me.." With that, the door opened and slammed shut at his face.
