The year 2103, Earth
It was a normal day in the future. The sun rose like every day and set like every day.
Henry, a normal office worker, was walking back to his house. On his way, he saw a lot of people walking on the streets, teenagers skating and cycling on the streets while the younger children ran around while their mothers ran behind them.
“The only problem is the extremely high temperature outside,” Henry said and continued to walk on the hectic streets.
Far away from where Henry was, a thin layer of glass covered the whole city like the atmosphere covered the earth. The layer of glass worked like an air-conditioner and cooled down the temperature inside. The temperature inside was 29 degrees Celsius (84.2 F) while outside it would be around 140 degrees celsius (284 F).
The cause of this anomaly was the metal that was found in 2028.
Stasa, the metal found, helped in the energy production a lot. It increased the output by 200% which was unimaginable, but it was also a slow-acting poison. By the time its harmful effects came to be known, the Ozone layer and half of the atmosphere were destroyed and the temperature on earth started to rise, making it reach an uninhabitable point.
Slowly, deaths started to happen. Millions of people died in a month and almost a billion died within six months. The world’s superpowers were about to collapse when finally, the glass coverings were introduced.
By the current year, 2103, the situation had worsened a lot. The use of Stasa caused the atmosphere to deteriorate but if it is not used, the glass coverings may not be supported anymore.
As Henry entered the apartment complex he lived in, he saw his 7-year-old daughter running around in the park and his wife talking to other mothers.
Henry decided to go back together so he walked toward them. Before he could reach them, his daughter, Rebeca saw him and ran towards him.
“Daddy, you’re back,” Rebeca shouted and jumped to hug Henry.
Henry hugged Rebeca back lightly. By now, Cynthia, his wife had also noticed him and was bidding bye to her friends.
“So, how was your day, my princess?” Henry asked as he still bent down and hugged his daughter.
“It was very good. You know dad, today I made a new friend…” Rebeca continued to speak nonstop.
Cynthia also hugged Henry once and then all the three of them started to walk back to their house. Rebeca continued to hold Henry’s hand and walked in front of him as if leading him while Henry and Cynthia walked behind her, talking about something in between.

Later, after dinner, Rebeca ran around the house, stubbornly demanding not to sleep and Cynthia ran behind her, telling her to sleep if she wanted to get up on time.
“Rebeca, sleep now, if you go on like this, how will you go to school tomorrow?” Cynthia said as she started to get tired of chasing after Rebeca.
“I will not go tomorrow then,” Rebeca said and then stopped at a safe distance at which she could escape once again.
After a moment of thinking, Cynthia told Rebeca a lie that every mom had told their children.
“Go tomorrow. I will allow you to take a leave on the day after tomorrow.”
“Really? You will not scold me, right?” Rebeca asked to confirm if her demands were getting fulfilled.
Cynthia nodded warmly and then walked towards Rebeca. Rebeca did not run away anymore; rather, she went with Cynthis happily.
Henry saw all this from the sofa in the living room and laughed a little. When Cynthia came and sat with Henry in the same quilt, Henry asked,” She slept?”
“Yeah. It was so tough. I think I can lose weight just from chasing her.” Cynthia said as she leaned on Henry.
Henry curled his arms around Cynthia and said,” Though that little princess doesn’t remember that the day after tomorrow is Sunday. It was so funny seeing her get happy.”
“Whatever, I am the one she is gonna not like for doing this,” Cynthia said.
Henry started to pat Cynthia’s back lovingly, consoling her.
“Don’t worry, she will like you in the end. You are her mother.” Henry said.
“What about you?”
“Me? Of course, I love you, honey.” Henry said and kissed Cynthia on her forehead.
“Hmph, better for you,” Cynthia said as she blushed a little and buried her face in Henry’s embrace.
